- Mia Feroleto is a well-known art advisor, activist and artist who divides her time between Vermont and South Dakota. She was instrumental in negotiating the return of 131 artifacts from the Barre museum in MA which were stolen from the dead at Wounded Knee massacre in 1890 to the Pine Ridge Lakota tribe in South Dakota in 2022. This process reflects her deep commitment to the people of the Pine Ridge reservation and to truth and justice.
In this interview, she updates her work with her efforts for the return of other artifacts from museums and from the Vatican to the indigenous tribes that they belong to as well as other acts to help heal and redress the trauma done to indigenous peoples here in the US.
She was also the creator of A SHELTER FROM THE STORM: ARTISTS FOR THE HOMELESS OF NEW YORK and ARTWALK NY, an annual event for Coalition for the Homeless that has been copied all around the country since beginning in 1995. Feroleto has organized numerous benefit auctions and large-scale special events at major auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, the Women’s Museum in Washington, D.C. and the Harvard Club in New York City.
Feroleto has served on the board of directors of such organizations as Dance Theater Workshop and Sculpture Center. She also served on the board of directors of the Tatanka Ska Institute, the Indigenous school being founded by Paula Looking Horse, wife of Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the keeper of the sacred White Buffalo Calf Woman Pipe.
She is the publisher of New Observations Magazine, the producer/creator of HEMP NY CITY, a partner in the founding of the Thunderheart Center for the Arts in Wasta, South Dakota and the creator and producer of the Consciousness and Contact conferences that have received world-wide recognition.
Mia Feroleto is the host of the New Observations podcast on Unknown Country, the channel for all things Whitley Strieber. She is a committed animal rights and animal welfare activist. She is determined to maximize visibility for the arts and our cultural world and is currently developing the Adopt an Artist Program to send artists to destinations around the globe in order to create and develop their art.
Mia Feroleto is currently working on "Turn Left At Sharp's Corner: The Return of the Wounded Knee Massacre Artifacts/One Woman's Story." which will be released in 2026. Her Adopt An Artist Program will launch in 2025.

Terrific conversation! This is the practical, down to earth inspiration we need👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you Heather and Mia for this wake-up call and profoundly moving conversation! Deep gratitude Mia for speaking the Truth about the horrific traumas suffered and endured by all indigenous human beings and tribes on earth. Thank you Mia for being a forceful advocate for the continued reclamation of stolen sacred artifacts from the Wounded Knee Massacre for the Oglala Lakota Tribe of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Thank you Mia for advocating for artists and for the importance of human creativity in transforming our new earth’s rebirth; and for speaking about living simply in collaborative harmony, peace and equitable balanced communities that care for all life forms, including Mother Earth.
You are both inspiring me so! Thank you for this beautiful, powerful conversation. Only part way through but coming back to listen after walking my dog. (And I had a profound experience with the Black Hills that I will never forget!) thank you!
''Change can happen in an instant.'' The lessons of Water as FLOW and Renewal. Many thanks to both of you!!

Thank you Mia Feroleto.....What a sacred event the Wild 12 Congress indeed, as the Davos event spotlights the material duality and I know that I will support Rapid City, Sth Dakoda and the Black Hills as the TRUE SOURCE.... Bless you for this information and your courageous work that sheds LIGHT....
Incredible conversation, so grateful to have listened. So enlightening and enheartening to hear from Mia and see an example in her of a Mystic who embodies both the "be-er" and the "do-er" so beautifully and who really walks the talk in her convictions in bringing about a more just and harmonious world. A true inspiration.

Yes, we are ALL connected~ everything is Sacred🙏 Thank you for the wonderful talk♾️☯️
I would like to thank you by sharing my website dedicated to peace, Truth, and self expression, from which FCNL selected a donation.
Thank you for this most Sacred conversation. So amazing this morning I woke up praying and apologizing to Gaia for these wars and soaking the earth with so much blood shed and grief and pain and asking for the end of these countries creating and selling these bomhs, these weapons of mass destruction to stop this and here today I find this video. Thank you for doing this work. Many Blessings
So beautiful said. I believe in this. I live for this. It’s an actual love for these prophecies that has almost been a painful experience out of love for me. These people deserve so much respect and I refuse to see it die. It’s what keeps me going. ❤
Enjoyed this exquisitely. An actual warrior woman in my living room! Appreciate ☺️
Deepest honor and blessings 💕🙏
Full throated YES to the ‘Return the Artifacts’ call! Thank you Mia for this much needed work!
For anyone interested, there is a wonderful doc on this topic that came out in 2024 by the fantastic director Mati Diop called Dahomey. For those in the US, it can currently be found on the MUBI streaming platform.
So refreshing! I attended Catholic grammar and High School in Illinois,USA. Two nuns, teachers, were leaving the order and ,via their quesioning ,were responsable for me learning how to see the world thru my own experience ... Divine Providence! Then I was guided to attend University in Arizona where I was exposed to Native American culture and beliefs which actually resonated with my beliefs and feeling connected to Gaia. Also being Aquarius , it seemed so obvious to stay close to the land and live in harmony, learn plant medicine etc...Thank you both for today's conversation and living your life's passions . Heather, your work and hosting so many wonderful humans on your channel, including Pam Gregory ,Mia ans so many others , helps me stabilize in my own spiritual center for the good of all.
Thank you for your support! Blessings to you!
Chills! Especially the moment Mia mentioned the Black Hills. I had the pleasure of staying in this area for a few days a little over a year ago - I have not felt this kind of energy anywhere else in the States. It was a similar feeling to the Pyramids, for me. I was in tears leaving those Hills . Liberation for all! Universal Income, Healthcare for ALL. Freedom to stay. Freedom to move. Freedom to LOVE and create. Thank you for this conversation. I think so many of us were ready for this! May we be inspired to walk our talks. May we stand up to the wrongs of this American Empire, collapsing.
Thank you for sharing your experience of Black Hills. Blessings to you.
Very very good…. Cheers to being Aquarius also…..& Mia talking about how things are much appreciated, great lady … yes more of the above thank you ❤❤❤
Art is form of human language for self expression
Because governments are about suppression of the society these areas are being mistreated
But each one of us has a choice to freely express ourselves besides external opinion or intention so please do feel open to use that fascinating language to express yourself in an art form
BE YOURSELF the way you love it
Exactly 💯
The time is Now divine timing to stand firm.. No more a time change. 🙏 bless all
Beautiful
Brings to mind that it is always darkest before the dawn.
What a beautiful and synchronistic podcast! I have a great niece named "Mia" and the name means Ocean 🌊 Goddess, queen, and gaurdian of justice 🙏. Exactly what Mia Feraleto is discussing.
I've been researching the Heyoka from the Lakota tribe and Mia reminds me if a Heyoka that reflects back to the wrongdoers in our world and ruffles feathers. Perfect.
I love to find heart shaped rocks and discovered thar 2 of the rocks are arrowheads wow. Mia mentioned the Black Hills looking like a heart shape in aerial photos.
Indeed we are all so interconnedcted if we can be still enough to see it.
I had to unsubscribe from a few channels that were so toxic and berating and the dark energy is everywhere I go unfortunately. The old saying is It's always the darkest before the light comes and its so true.
I so appreciated this Heather and Mia because now that alot of us have come out of our cocoon, there's no turning back.
Like Pam Gregory said; "Love more loudly" and that's exactly what I've been doing. Some folks seem very uncomfortable around me but I accept that because Love is the absence if judgement and I let it go...with a smile.
Love, peace, joy, and harmony be with the world. 🌊🙏🕊️🌻❣️
Thank you for sharing this. Blessings to you!
Mia is the beautiful face of feminine fierceness. Loved this interview
This interview with Mia is very moving because I feel a lot of us feel the same for some time now. The injustice to all human life and the animal kingdom not to forget the tree beings and insects and above all Mother Earth. It is important to understand that wars feed the economy of the elite who make weapons of distruction of human life. The amount of blood shed is tragic and all the elite can think of is the money that fills their pockets. For the love of money is the root of ALL evil. In our community we have tried to create the community well being in health services and the government/public health shut it down. Many of us are back yard homesteading and will share our produce or trade developing free trade/barder system. How to see Russia who has seperate from the World Bank and Nato; good move. We just need to gather more souls to alignment with spirit in so much that the Natives need to rise and stand tall and share their spirituality that is so connected to nature. All I can state is that many of us are trying to educate others as I do in my practice Barber/Salon. It may take another century; who knows.
Thank you for sharing what you and your community are doing. Blessings to you.
Mia Feroleto Namaste - I am. / i am in Poland at the moment very near to where people invaded this land which started the WW2. It is time to bring healing and break the pattern. Had no idea why I had chosen now to come to Gdansk. Saw a lovely statue of Neptune the other night and I took a photo, you are coming soon. Listening tonight to this conversation I knew I have to.go and visit the monument Westerplatte and process healing. Mia ❤
I was visiting the Field Museum in Chicago back in the 1970s. There was an exhibit of Native American clothing. I was fascinated and studied them closely. Suddenly I noticed one with a hole that looked like it could be a bullet hole. As I studied all of them more closely, each had a hole that was likely a bullethole. Chilling….
😢🙏
Yes, this is similar to those taken from the Wounded Knee massacre.
Hi from Sweden Big Namaste 🌹🙏🌹
repost immediately and god speed🙏
Love ! 🌞🌞❤❤💕💕🌳🌳
Universal basic human rights need to be integrated before bringing in a universal basic income. The latter without the former and bye-bye humanity.
❤
At 47:37 this beautiful guest lifted a bottle of plastic to her lips to drink from. It always amazes me, how people who are so conscious can still buy plastic bottled water. Please use a thermas or some other container to carry your water in. Namaste'
Hi Carol, Mia is not able to comment directly on this site and asked me to share with you this comment: "Currently staying at a hotel, I have no kitchen and rely on bottled water. Thank you for providing a teachable moment." - Mia
@@HeatherEnsworth OMG ....thanks so much for your sweet information Heather. I felt awkward offering that suggestion because I am aware I don't know the circomstances. Much love and Namaste'.
All of your hopes and dreams are coming true. UNN on YT ❤
The Lakota are dear to my heart🙏🏼🌈💙I in the past have had Waking Visions of White Buffalo Calf Woman who gave me her Medicine Pipe and Medicine Bag- She is Me and I am Her🙏🏼💙🦉one of my Spirit Guides Is A White Buffalo I have named “ “ B- N - Nur”she has on her left horn a gold covering with Runes.🦉🌈. I use Apache Tears a lot for treating & soothing Those who have grief…
Why didn't governor Kristi Noem honor the Native American residents in her state? I wonder if your guest had ever met activist Russell Means? Has Mia seen the Dignity statue in Chamberlain, S.D.?
Thank you. Just to Clarify, Buffalo's are not "it's", They Are He's and She's, just like Humans. Also, one Cannot Gift a Buffalo to Anyone Because All Beings All Energies Belong To Self. I Hope The Precious Being Was Not Stolen From A Life With Family, Loved Ones, just to be presented as a gift because that sounds like cruelty. Peace To Al😉l❤️🐾❤️✌️✨
Remember that these calves were honored and named and blessed by the indigenous people who see them as sacred.
@HeatherEnsworth Yes That's Beautiful. But They Are Seen As Sacred By Their Own Self, by Their Families, and Loved Ones As Well.❤️✌️🪷🐾❤️
@@HeatherEnsworthif a human child is taken to gift to other humans, is that ok? Would the Mother not Long for Her Child? Would there not be Heartache? It is No different for any Being, pain, suffering, Joy, Happiness ECT...
I Say This With Love.❤️🐾❤️✌️✨
This woman sounds so angry. Hard to listen.
I grew up in the southwest and have always honored the First Nations Peoples.
Look forward to the time of Peace. ❤🎉😊
I think what you are hearing in Mia is her strong passion for justice. And that is great that you have honored First Nations peoples across your life. Thank you for sharing this.
