Good show - Daniel is a thoughtful speaker- very logical and kind - I've listened to him for a long while- I feel compelled to define some words - Secular basically means: Of an age - a certain time - and having no dogma - just observing things around you ______________ Without being told what to think- Diachronic means: Studying something over time- I'm amazed that this planet hit the galactic jackpot of life existing in this solar system- and then- to imagine the crazy size of the Milky Way Galaxy- The Human Species hit the jackpot- And it feels like it's been wasted- by dogma, and stories from 2000 years ago- Not even just Christianity- all religions- Why is your religion right and another wrong? God wants every one to fight for there place in heaven? Is that the moral-? Written documents/stories before the bible exist- that deal with morality and choices- Aesop's Fables- Homer and the Iliad- Humans have decided what laws are, and the limits of acceptable conduct-since the Greeks, and even farther back- If you are the asshole in a tribe- guess what - you are not in the tribe- that might go back 100,000 years- I don't want to be told a story of what the world is- I want to see what the world is -
"..it feels like it's been wasted..." Before christianity was born, the arabs, middle eastern, mediterranean, and the orient had the rudiments of science, had advanced math to algebra and trigonometry levels using the decimal numerical system (0-9). You could not do so without having the value zero (0). If you check history, countries that fell under christian control, Europe and parts of Mediterranea, used the "Roman" numerical system (I, II, III, IV..) until the 1,500's. The reason for this was the church prohibited the teaching and introduction of the decimal system, because it contained the number zero (0). The reason for this is they didn't want the concept of infinity, or nothingness known, because infinity and nothingness contradicted the model of the universe and reality they followed and taught to make a god created cosmos. They did allow certain guilds to learn it for the obvious necessities, building stuff, etc., like masons and Jesuits. But you had to be initiated into them. Now think the amount of progress that has occurred in only about 200 years. From lightning with candles to electricity, from just riding horses to putting rovers on Mars, in medicine, from using leeches to genetically designed cures, and on and on. *Religion held back human progress for 1,500 years* because it threatened their mythology and hence control of the population.

I had the luxury of being raised by an open-minded mother who just wanted me to be happy. I got to experience so many religions growing up and go with all my friends to their religious events and spaces. Because of this, I never believed in any of them. Not just one can be correct nor can they all.
The problem I have with religion and somewhat spirituality is that we are on one planet out of over 700 quintillion and out of them 50 sextillion are possibly inhabitable plus humans only existed for 0.002% of the universe and likely not going to last long with no get away planet within 63,000 years. If we were so important why would we be so significant
And if we are so significant, why is it that, even just being able to inhabit this blue dust spec in a relative infinity hostile to us, we can only live in 25% of this dust spec and at least not the entirety of it?
@@xelasomar4614 Exactly, just makes no sense. Dems are lying and their voters don't know it or don't care
Trump and Republicans Secured our Borders to Protect America
Biden and Democrats immediately Opened Our Borders up to the entire world
and Democrats are telling Black Americans to give up their Communities.
They are giving away their Schools, Community Centers, Med Center, and $$$
to Illegals.
WHY didn't Dems ever offer these FREE checks and FREE benefits to Black Americans?
Democrat Governor Hochul is trying to give STATE JOBS to Illegals but didn't do this for
Black American Citizens. (I think it was around 4,000 jobs all total)
The Border Bill Dems are pushing will allow 35,000 Illegals per week. Over a million a yr.
Trump and Republicans want to Close the Border again.
So folks, check facts and see with your eyes, not your ears.

Awesome interview, David. Mr. Dennett is inspiring.
I may as well be an atheist, but I'm not quite there yet. I long abandoned the notion that god is something that hears prayers, or is in any way capable of being something which can separately interact with humankind. If that kind of god exists, it must be "hiding somewhere in South America."
Excellent and insightful interview- thank you David.
Denneth just passed away.. a great mind leaves us.. ❤😢
Dennett is always interesting. 😊
Excellent conversation
He also is a member of fight club.
Shhhhh!
What is this "fight club" that you speak of ?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Eerie_98 I’m not a member, so I’m unshackled by its tenets.
@@wheressteveyou don't watch movies do you
Really great to hear from this man! Shakey changed my life!
I’m glad that Dennett is still fighting the good fight. Clearly it’s gotten violent lately.
Yikes, I had no idea.
You can see how unwell he is here, RIP Daniel I really enjoyed your books.
Great questions David. Goodby Professor Dennett, wherever you are.
My man! Dennett doesn't make enough media appearances.
Well done David, down with religion 🎉❤😊
Great guest, David.
❤
It's hard to see this beautiful man all banged up. I wish for you quick healing.
Good show - Daniel is a thoughtful speaker- very logical and kind - I've listened to him for a long while- I feel compelled to define some words -
Secular basically means: Of an age - a certain time - and having no dogma - just observing things around you ______________ Without being told what to think-
Diachronic means: Studying something over time-
I'm amazed that this planet hit the galactic jackpot of life existing in this solar system- and then- to imagine the crazy size of the Milky Way Galaxy- The Human Species hit the jackpot-
And it feels like it's been wasted-
by dogma, and stories from 2000 years ago-
Not even just Christianity- all religions- Why is your religion right and another wrong? God wants every one to fight for there place in heaven? Is that the moral-?
Written documents/stories before the bible exist- that deal with morality and choices-
Aesop's Fables-
Homer and the Iliad-
Humans have decided what laws are, and the limits of acceptable conduct-since the Greeks, and even farther back-
If you are the asshole in a tribe- guess what - you are not in the tribe- that might go back 100,000 years-
I don't want to be told a story of what the world is-
I want to see what the world is -
"..it feels like it's been wasted..." Before christianity was born, the arabs, middle eastern, mediterranean, and the orient had the rudiments of science, had advanced math to algebra and trigonometry levels using the decimal numerical system (0-9).
Wow, was this interview his last? Go pakman.
I already miss this man. I didnt agree with him on everything but i respect the hell out of his brilliance. He is and will be missed.
Dan was one of the people integral in helping me find a life outside of religion. Legend!
I have his book Breaking the Spell. It was awesome. Love Daniel Dennett.
I wish the interview was much longer, as it seemed that they were just getting into some interesting ideas. 😮
He was a great man. RIP.
Great Interview.
RIP
A giant who lived among us. RIP
amazing interview 😮
I'm a "spiritual atheist," with sympathies for Donald Hoffman's ideas about conscious agents, but it's good to check in with Daniel Dennett, whose contributions to intellectual discourse can't be denied.
Thanks David for this interview with a fovourite of mine, Dan Dennet!
Great interview David. Daniel Dennett is and always has been a true breath of fresh air to the stupidity that surrounds all of us today.
No, he’s part of the stupidity. Doesn’t mean he’s not a stepping stone to something better.
I love his explanation and different perspective on ‘’homelessness”- people who need love and a home to go to when there is nowhere else to go.
Genius 😎 they were all so intimidated by your soft voice. Thank you for embracing mine. 2nd yoda , free you set me.
RIP, beautiful mind. 🙏🏻✨
I had the luxury of being raised by an open-minded mother who just wanted me to be happy. I got to experience so many religions growing up and go with all my friends to their religious events and spaces. Because of this, I never believed in any of them. Not just one can be correct nor can they all.
Best interview ever.
Was this filmed after his death? Seriously, though, what happened to him? Was he recently before the video in a car accident?
Its part of being old. Could be from a fall, or could be from blood thinners that make bruising easy

Dr Daniel Dennett died today. Information is real. Maybe what he conveyed somehow survives in those that he influenced, like me.
Your math aside, good points. 😂
And if we are so significant, why is it that, even just being able to inhabit this blue dust spec in a relative infinity hostile to us, we can only live in 25% of this dust spec and at least not the entirety of it?
@@xelasomar4614 Exactly, just makes no sense. Plus don’t get me started on the we’re so so special even tho it’s almost impossible that life’s not on other planets out of the absurd amount of habitable planets yet we literally have no save as a species because we’re stuck here with no way of really expanding to another planet.
I will miss Daniel Dennett so much.
He’s not dead yet
It seems like this is his first public appearance in a while. Am I wrong?
"God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent - it says so right here on the label. If you have a mind capable of believing all three of these attributes simultaneously, I have a wonderful bargain for you. No checks, please. Cash and in small bills." ~ Robert A. Heinlein
quite the distortion
Well over a century ago, Nietzsche said"God is dead". God still isn't dead enough.
Only when all that believe in it are gone, will such an archaic superstition, fade into obscurity.
Perhaps after the 7th great ELE.
Nietzsche spoke metaphorically. The beliefs of the populace didn't matter for him. It was a matter of whether the morality of his society (and ours) was intellectually supported by something apart from fairytales, and his answer was: obviously no, and what are the consequences?
God never lived so he can’t die
RIP to one of the best
I hate when I tell people I'm agnostic and they say oh you're an atheist. No, I simply use the scientific method on religion. I don't know until it proves itself or reveals the great questions. It's good to look across all religions to form a hypothesis.
