    Glen, love your channel...respect. Maybe I missed it, but I'm not seeing step #1... how to fix a problem with noise caused by the AC power source. For example, I have a Headrush Gigboard. In some locations, when I plug the guitar straight in, all is good. In others, the guitar noise (caused by AC power) makes it unusable. Same happens with Axe FX III and all other equipment. I suspect many home users (I.e. Users of Focusrite) think the problem is their equipment, when its noisy/dirty AC power. Looking for an affordable solution that cleans up AC power. Bought a Furman P-1800-AR, but its not really in the affordable category. Overall, just looking for advice because no equipment sounds good or often isn't even usable with dirty AC power. TIA

    Hey, Glen!
    I got some requests. Maybe, some are already covered. Still, will you please make videos on:
    1) ADAT and if they can still be used today, i.e. in substitution of a DAW;
    2) Wall of Sound technique, how to do it, what can be achieved with it, what circumstances it suits best;
    3) Studios, their unique sounds and how that happens (Sweet Silence Studio - Master of Puppets, Reciprocal Recording - Bleach, Sound City Studios - endless list, Regent Sound Studios / Island Studios - Paranoid).
    4) "One guitar take worth all", i.e. tracking many amps at the same time, thus recording the guitar parts only once. Can it be done?
    5) How to get the most beautiful guitar distortion / overdrive? Rich with harmonics. How to do it?
    Thanks! Cheers.

    So without watching 30 minutes of the LTT video, what exactly did they do wrong?
    I do remember when Jayz2Cents managed to completely misunderstand the SM7B and tried to use it like a condenser mic - although I believe they did respond to user comments telling him how all kinds of wrong the setup was.

    Glenn,
    Your videos have really helped me start to hone my skills as a home "engineer." When I first started out, I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground re: the console work (I was usually just the guy doing the recording,) so I went with what I thought sounded right at the time. I came home from a deployment and immediately went to a gear shop and purchased a Presonus Firestudio (which I'm still using.) Not knowing about quality impulses and amp sims, I went with the bundled AmpliTube 3. I also bought Superior Drummer 2 with the Metal Foundry add-on (which I also still use to flesh out mixes while I wait for my live drummer to record his tracks and send them to me for mixing.) Needless to say, my levels were all over the place, and certain tones were drowning out others, while some were getting buried in the mix. I dropped three tracks on SoundCloud, hoping to garner interest in forming an actual band. Fast forward to 2019-2020, I found your channel, and applied what you've shown to some of my recordings, and remixed two of the songs (including now one with an actual drummer.) The difference is night and day, although some nuances still elude me (I'm looking at you, toms!) Anyway, thanks for uploading such informative material, and stay metal!
    If you or anyone is interested, this is the link to my SoundCloud, where you can see the difference this channel has helped me attain:

    Wonder if they've fixed the clipping issue when using the instrument input on the 2i2 3rd Gen... at least 1st Gen clipped quite audibly w. gain @ min. with my guitars & basses (Gibson 498T/490R in my LP... can't remember the rest.) Buddy of mine has the same problem w. 2nd Gen... Other than that it's a solid piece of gear especially considering the price.

    Just a thought about recording a drum kit with one mic - What about the Blue Snowball? It has an omni setting, so you can stick it above the kit and pick up the majority of the kit. It's far from perfect, but the mic only costs $70, and might work a little better than just a 57.

    Thanks for the free course! One day I may have time to sit down to it hahah.
    First recording was two mics. One was a radio shack mic with the cord attached and the other was an even cheaper mic of no name. We ran it all into a home made mixer we had wired on a piece of plywood. Our bass amp was home made as well and was called 'the beast' and made and SVT with 8x10 feel light (made with MDF and a home made power amp haha).
    Just hung the two mics from the ceiling and out first demo was born. Amazing what you can accomplish with a little know how and lack of standards lol.

    Hey Glen , I'm about a year and 1/2 into recording at home. I have a 6i6 and about a month ago I finally realized a few things, I was recording too loud #1 so my volume on the 6i6 channel in was too loud. Which makes everything too loud in my mix then I'm fighting to get it sitting right and I had no dynamics lol. Then #2 was a problem for a few months figuring out my inputs in cakewalk matching with my 6i6 , especially midi working properly. Those were probably the 2 main problems I was having and nobody on YT talked about any of it. So..... how's anyone supposed to learn 😆 anyways great vids man

    GLENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!! A few years ago I recorded a drum kit using only 1 mic (I got the idea from the YT channel Creative Sound Lab). I used a Samson C03 (large diaphragm condenser) positioned just 1" above the bass drum with the capsule pointing at the snare. I added just a bit of EQ to make room for the other instruments and compression to hear all the elements of the kit. Very surprising! Of course it isn't the best and not as good as a professional recording, but if that 18 year-old's band is looking to just record a demo, I'm sure that method could work. Remember that a lot of us watching you are just "bedroom producers" so that could be a subject for one of your next videos.

    GLEN! Now that I'm at a level of audio recording where I'm using outboard stuff, let me ask you, is word clock enough to sink it all up? I run a mic to preamp to compressor to interface. Perhaps a little episode on how to get things to sync up and talk to eachother would be nice if someone like me needs the interface inputs as well.

    • @gregoirepainchaud
      @gregoirepainchaud 3 роки тому

      Don't worry about that stuff. You're talking about digital sync, which was a thing yes... These days audio interfaces do that automatically with the computer. Remember: it only apply to the digital realm. So your mic, preamp, compressor that you feed your interface with, these are all analog linked devices that do not need to digitally sync together.

    Valves - You almost got it right: There are subtle differences in the metal, crystal structure, anode coating, distances between filament, grid and anode, sparce gases and transconductance etc. these will make a difference based on the circuit they are plugged into. A valve that works superbly in a RIAA phono stage might sound completely awful in a Tube Driver pedal (remember those?) and vice versa. The differences sometime attributed to changinge valves can sometimes come down to the fact the 10 year old valves, that where perfectly fine, where removed and re-seated. Suddenly new unoxcidised metal connects, conduction is better and the amp has a new lease of life. The same is true of transistor amps that have ribbon cables connecting boards - replug them with some switch cleaner and you'll get a wizard new sound out of your aling combo!

    Broke home recording noob here. How does one connect guitar pedals to a DAW? Do I just plug the pedal into the interface or will it not work at all? I’m wanting to buy the upcoming Waza version of the HM2, but I don’t have an amp with an effects loop. Therefore I’m planning to run it into the Amped Roots plug-in (which is suuuper awesome btw).

      If your interface has a DI or Hi-Z input, you can use a regular jack cable going from the pedal output to that input. Guitar>Pedals>jack>Interface>DAW
      If your interface only has XLR inputs, you'll need a DI box. Guitar>pedals>DI>xlr>interface>DAW

    Using 1 mic for drums, go dynamic. EV 967 works great. Stick it under the toms pointing at the snare.

    Hey Glenn! After three years should I replace my Behringer Uphoria interface? It came up in conversation that that's a long time for an interface to last.
    Aside from cutting off when I don't use a D.I. when I run an amp through it , it really has no issues. How long should an interface last?

    Hey Glen I'm a guitar player writing for a my first metal project and we are working and practicing for studio/ gigs. due to my own timing issues I tab out everything in guitar pro so I can practice it. last week I sat the band down and attempted to use the metronome in guitar pro for our band practice over the PA... Train wreck. not that we sounded bad but we surely practice differently together than I do at home.
    what I noticed is specifically was we /me and the drummer seem to speed up in the areas that I personally play well in and slow down much slower during the areas that plain and simply I need more practice/more time. its very interesting! it seems my drummer gave me the space I need to hit my 16th note run at 160 bpm.. by slightly slowing it down ha!
    obviously myself and the band need to practice more. this coming week we will instead of using the PA give the drummer headphones with the metronome so hopefully he can keep us on time but I'd like to know what my goal should be here exactly.
    Should I aim for the band being perfectly on time? or should we aim to be perfectly on time with the drummer who gives different feels in places? tips?
    Sincerely brain dead guitar player

    Hey Glen, thanks for your work! it's been educative but also entertaining (at times :p)
    joining the idea of the attention span (or lack thereof), what about adding timestamps in the description? would make navigating your videos a lot easier (read: skip the questions interesting to others and go to the one that interests oneself). might also improve their searchability by specific topic (as usually the title mentions one or two of the discussed topics). just a thought

    If it's any help, I have a (free) setup for low latency OBS that may work for other windows users.
    I put Voxengo Recorder VST on the master track of my DAW, and use that plugin to output to VB Audio Cable, great software for virtual audio I\O. In OBS, set VB Cable as your desktop output device, and that should give you audio that comes up in a stream, without interfering with any existing ASIO setup you may have.
    You can also use this to stream ASIO through Discord. Set OBS to monitor the audio output into a dummy device you aren't using (maybe realtek hd output, or a digital output if you have one).
    If you then stream that OBS window, Discord should pick up the audio. You can even take advantage of this to stream to both discord and the internet, but have your voice not come through either stream, and not have discord output in the OBS stream either!
    Hope this helps any readers!

    Hi Glenn, I am a long-time listener. Great content, always!You guys kick ass!
    I’ve got a stupid question. when I’m listening to a song through FM station broadcast for example in a good Car Stereo, it sounds great The-Bass is punchy and warm ,the highs are not harsh the music has depth and clarity but when I put the original CD of the same song into the same Sound system then it does not sound the same at all. it’s much worse. I’m really confused please tell me what is going on here And how can I make the music that I’m playing after recording to sound the same.
    Long live rock ‘n’ roll🤘

    I have streamlabs obs. It does what it needs to, but is more cpu intensive than obs.
    I’d be interested if you did a review on the elegato capture cards. I’ve noticed a problem where my audio starts to desync after a long period. I’m talking milliseconds but it adds up and becomes noticeable. At first I thought it was a bit rate issue, but even after making sure streamlabs and my computer are all at 48k bit rate, I had the same issue.
