I have same exact vacuum and where it was swiveling on you mine locks in place so it won't do that and when you sit up the handle it locks and stays upright without falling backwards. You may check out the release peddle because you should have to push it to release the wand/handle.
I remember seeing the Kenmore progressive canister vacuum in the green color scheme in episode one of vacuums saved. I remember Sears used to sell these before they closed due to bankruptcy. Despite not owning this vacuum, it’s a cool machine to have.
I liked that snow white model, it reminds me of an iPhone or Nintendo Wii. I found a navy blue earlier one in the trash early this year, with all the attachments. I also have the red top model of this one.

I really do like the white color. I think it's pretty! Even though it's prone to getting dirty. I love mine!

I used one of these in sears and I liked it’s performance was good! Canisters have a good advantage they go under all furniture
The reason the wand swivels is so you can turn the handle to get under like beds and tables!
