I stumbled upon a Chums wallet in the sporting goods department at Walmart while looking for a coin pouch since I had lost my Decibullz earplug pouch, which I had used for that purpose. It won me over how minimalist it was at around $10. I removed everything from my Ridge wallet-inspired money clip to the Chums and have not looked back since a few days ago. My organization system requires all my cash and cards to be on the license window side and all my coins to be put on the opposite side. I also used the “key” loop for my AirTag. It is the perfect EDC. I love it.
I have one of these and I love it. However, I seriously question the wisdom of attaching your house keys to your wallet if you live in a country where your home address is printed on your driver's license. If your wallet is lost or stolen, you don't want someone having your address and the keys to your house.
I bought an AirTag so I get notified on my phone if I left my wallet behind and I have anti theft bags and even with them I still never leave my wallet unattended. So it’s just a matter of how careful you are. Even without an AirTag if you’re just not careless with your wallet it’s better.
Nice review, cool wallet. As an aside, keeping your keys in the same article of clothing as your wallet (or in this case, IN your wallet) is never a good idea for security reasons. If you lose those things together, then whomever finds them will not only know your address but also be able to gain entry to that address with the keys they found with your wallet. That can cause significantly more trouble than losing either of those things separately.
It boasts "RFID protection" which is great and all but I was concerned if this would be a hindrance to effectively using the key fob I use to get into the building I work in. I had a similar idea of sticking it in the back pocket of the wallet like that and hoping it would scan through the fabric without issue. Also inside the clear ID card pouch I was thinking instead of putting in my public transit card for easy scanning. But the main reason I was looking at this wallet is that I can keep my keys contained inside the wallet too without them jingling in my pocket and scratching items or potentially making holes in my pant's pockets. I think your review confirmed my purchase.
Where o you keep your cash? I have had one of these for several years (when they first came out) and I use the compartment behind the id pocket for cash. I also do not carry my ID in it because I have my house keys on the ring - if I lose it, I'm inviting thieves into my house. When I travel, I lock my passport card in the hotel room safe and just carry my passport card as ID in this wallet - doesn't have my address on it, so thieves can't easily sus what door the keys open...)
It slides nicely in the front pocket (with the window) behind the divider. You can keep your ID on the other side, cash can sit directly on the other side of the divider, and more cards can go beyond that. It isn’t perfect, but it works well enough! -Eric
How do you keep the outside of it from tearing after a year or so of use? I’m on my 3rd one, just ordered my 4th in about 3-4 years, because they all tend to tear on the front right around the key chain area. I don’t overstuff my wallet either, so it’s not that it has too much stuff in it. Is this just how these wallets are? I’ll keep buying them cause they’re minimalist, cheap, and have cool designs but would really like them to last at least a full year before needing replacement
I traveled with it for the first time in Egypt recently. Worked great where the country accepts both USD and Egyptian pounds. I have one currency and coins in one compartment and one currency and a card in another. I keep my hotel key card in the outside slip pocket. I say this is a great travel companion and would be my go to travel wallet from now on. It is very minimal and easily fits in my sling bag. And as it is looks simple and not flashy at all, it wouldn’t be eye catching to pickpockets and would be thieves.
I've been using mine daily for a year and a half. The inside layers are peeling off and on the outside it looks pretty bad. I am thinking about getting a new one. I became so used to it I cannot imagine using other wallets. However, there is one pretty big issue with this wallet. I am not sure if it is the coins or the keys, but they totally damage your cards. All of my cards look like I throw rocks at them daily. And my debit card is bent a little bit, almost broken. I guess that is from the pressure of carrying the wallet in the front pocket. I wish the wallet would protect the cards a little more. Also, you have to fold all your banknotes twice and some cashiers hate it and look at me as if I was a lunatic when I hand them a folded banknote amd they start to unfold it😅
