great respect for your values Duke. I lost a fiance to cancer, he was 42. It's life changing to appreciate the fragility of life, and the value of kindness and supporting others... We are here to take care of one another.
That was awesome, truly a treat to get to know this individual more. Thanks for your time gentlemen!
Proud to work at a company like Quanta. Mr Austin is a great leader.
Very interesting, great to hear from Duke and his story. He is the real deal and a great leader, much respect!
This really hit home for me. I just started my construction journey and I already love it! The best thing my parents gave me was my work ethic (my dad was a lineman). This interview really speaks to Mike Rowe “Work smarter and harder” I was really thankful to hear from Duke, I love to hear his sincerity. Hope to one day meet you guys in person.
P.S. I played this interview for my crew and they loved it. They didn’t know who Duke was at first.
Very inspiring! Work behind the scenes, get in the mud, and don’t stop learning. Great discussion.
Very proud to work for this family #North Houston Pole Line
That was a great interview. I love the boots upward movement. It really takes time to be great in a trade. Sometimes I have jumped into a project without investigating the detail as I should have. This seems to always get me. Sometimes it looks so simple and easy. Then you realize you pull the tail of a hell cat. It all goes sideways. After that happens it becomes a real learning lesson in how to get back where you were and keep a customer happy. Sometimes you just have to set yourself up for success do the small timely things for success of the project. I have also found that hard work ethic will take you far. The little things do help to get noticed. I rarely ever say much in a meeting but when it does happen. It is well received and for the better of the group. It is a long road to be great. The best part is when you can help those along to be better and learn to deal with things more easily. Our company is heavy into learning. The equipment is always changing. I think it was a great Idea that they bought a place to really train. Also, to train the same way of consistency and expectation. Sometimes you really have to enjoy the journey. Some of the hardest times has been out on the road in a hotel room. I sometimes had a 48hr turn around and out the door for a number of weeks. I think these guys do need to see the place they pay for. They need to be rotated out. It not fun when you come home and can't find your basic things. Good thing the light switches didn't move lol. The road can be hard life and not for everyone. Great friends will help with that. Keep in touch. We all have rough days.
Love this Podcast and as a young man 21 years old pursuing this career with passion, Duke Austin impressed me. The way he cares about the linemen he employes. Those people that are putting their life on the line daily really go unnoticed. My pops told me before I started this trade that there is no such thing as shortcuts while being a lineman. I struggled with my mental health the past year and I've never been more excited to start a job. Getting my CDL this month and going to apply as an apprentice.
You got this! 💪🏻
Both a Cancer Survivor and a Quanta Employee. Duke is right, always make time for family. You can't go back.
Great Podcast , it’s crazy to think how big Quanta is and i never heard of them until they had bought my company out.
Awesome to hear Duke’s story
