They are well worth it. I am really impressed with Warner Archive as a whole. They are doing wonderful work. I look forward to building my collection with their titles. I have a lot to get to.
@@FilmCollectorArchive my friend I agree. I have already bought all those volumes since the originals from the 30s. I now have all 6 volumes from 1930 to 1950 more or less BUT there are a lot more to be released. excluding a dvd they released from the 60s series there is nothing else released. first of all we had popeye cartoons until 1957. those released after 1947 are not released yet. then we had more than 220 episodes released after 1960 and only like half of those are so far released in dvd. then we had the all new popeye hour 1978-1983 series which are not released at all as also the later 1987 popeye and son series. I want to ask you if u know which series are the episodes released in dvd as.....POPEYE AND FRIENDS...…..do u know from which years are those series...?
You should check out the Thunderbean Blu Ray of Popeye, that contains the wholly restored version of the Oscar-nominated short Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor (1936).
This was released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (formerly as Warner Home Video for some reason) and King Features Entertainment (who also owns the Popeye characters especially in comic strip). Those 1940s Popeye cartoons are restored with Paramount's original Theatrical titles for some reason but the issue is not all the end cues are original in several 1940s Popeye shorts due to a.a.p. / United Artists cut the original end music cues of Popeye cartoons, but some fans in social media used it and they fixed the end cues onto it since they found some original negative with correct end cues or just recreated an end cues of Popeye cartoons. They are sort of some shorts featured are reused end cues from Abusement Park (1947 Popeye Cartoon) due to what I've mentioned the Associated Artists Productions through United Artists Television / MGM Television cut-off the original Paramount Popeye end music cues scored by Winston Sharples.
When I was looking at these Blu-Rays and DVDs of Popeye the Sailor 1940s Volumes 1-3, and in including the re-release of Popeye the Sailor Volume 1-3, the language says japanese. But when we watch these, they speak English.
David, I am looking for the classic popeye episode where the spinach can he threw away on purpose screamed back at him and said, 'you'll be sorry!!" Do you have that one? I want to purchase it but I need the title - thanks
Also, people need to get into the mindset of watching films bearing in mind the era they were made in. Censoring and suppressing is not ideal. Personally, filmgoers need to have a greater understanding of context before screaming out derogatory epithets. Thanks for the video. And sorry for the multiple posts...
That’s the case with a lot of the old animated titles. There are social practices that we are more aware of and sensitive to now that are displayed in some of the shorts. It’s good for viewers to be aware. It’s I just a disclaimer from the studio.
A lot of times it’s just a struggle to find missing elements. They can be all over the place with private collectors or film archives. It’s an interesting search for some of these classics. And in some cases the elements just don’t any longer exist at all.
@@FilmCollectorArchive true true some times the missing episodes are on random dvds or on old vhs videos or on tv i got some of the missing episodes on recorded on vhs when it was on tv and more on the giant 600 cartoon collection dvd box set if you like you can get it or maybe we can be patient and wait for vol.4 with the missing episodes too come to dvd one day
Hi Martin. Nope, these will not play on a DVD player. I picked these up for, I believe $17.99 each, or something close to that. Thanks for the comment!
Honestly, if you're looking to collect the series, I would just start with the first volume. These are all such great collections. You can't go wrong. Thanks for the comment! :)
I’m not sure if they match content wise, as I have never owned the DVD’s. But what I can tell you is that these Blu Ray editions contain completely new restorations. They are worth purchasing for that reason alone.
The first 3 DVDs of the 1930s Popeye cartoons were primarily the Black & white Fleischer ones which do feature the 3 color 2-reelers Sindbad, Ali Baba & Aladdin. Fleischer became Famous Studios during this period. These were made during the World War 2 period, therefore there is some racially insensitive imagery during some of the cartoons so be wary if you’re playing them for the young ones. There are some wonderful documentaries included including some silent era Fleischer cartoons also shown. The 3 volumes of the 1940s color Famous Studios Popeye cartoons are well represented here. There are not as many racially insensitive moments here but there are some. Unfortunately, no bonus features, but these cartoons have NEVER looked this clear! I am hoping the final decade of the color Famous Studios Popeyes ie the 1950s will get a release. Granted, toward the end of the run, the animation and formulaic writing was showing some age but there are worthwhile moments viewable there. Here’s hoping for the 50s BluRays in the near future. Which brings to mind….will the 3 B&W Fleischer Popeye DVDs be upgraded to BluRay??
I'm not here to judge but why do you own the Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection instead of the more superior Looney Tunes Golden Collection ? It has way more cartoons and alot of bonus features compare to the Spotlight Collection.
@@FilmCollectorArchive Oops Sorry, I didn't see the notification that You commented back to me. That's good that You owned the Looney Tunes Golden Collection instead of the Spotlight collection. Just curious but do You owned the previous Popeye volumes ?

Popeye is SUCH an awesome classical cartoon - loved the animation decades ago and still today!

I want to get all of these. I love the Popeye shorts, as I remember watching them growing up.

I’m surprised Warner Brothers still kept the Paramount logos on the cartoons. Apparently Velma Dinkley likes Popeye.

Popeye the Sailor of 1940s and 1950s in Famous Studios.

Kathy, I don't see that one listed on any of the three volumes I have.
It’s on Volume 3 of the 1940s collection.
