I got to say while I agree that Bonnie’s is tied for first only because Linda Ronstadt has laid down some equally beautiful versions of this.

This is the earliest Bonnie I've ever seen. I wish more people knew about it.
She sounds as pure today as she did then.
    Bonnie reigns.

It is the earliest or youngest I have seen, her hair is parted in the middle and you can’t see her distinctive red hair with her white stripe of hair in front. I was 19 when her debut album was released in 1975, I first saw her in concert in August 1981, after going to college with her younger brother David in Mendocino. David was in a duo called Hansen and Raitt, Mark Hansen was David’s best friend who I also went to college with, both of those cuties were in my Woman’s Herstory class, because they were the only guys (this is classic, because my sons did the same thing and they don’t even know I went to college with David and Mark). Unfortunately, Mark died in a car accident long ago.

This song was just sent to me by my first, real, true, love. I was stupid, and didn't want to tie him down. We still hurt, and miss each other so. Bonnie sings this song from when we were young. Such a true story, now even more. Love that has no pride. Crying like a baby now.

first heard bonnie as she sang harmony for Jackson Browne song "The Times You've come"
50 or do years later, I still get a "shudder" when she comes in...
Had a chance to meet her once soon after in Colorado, worked up nerve to approach any way. She was still mainly "studio" not that well known, so asked me " how I knew her" kind if challenge..I told her about song, and we sang a shirt version together...so cool!
Over years, I've performed with many people, jackson songs, james taylor, Carrol king, Joni, Graham...when I get a chance to sing harmony with a woman's voice...wow! Love you guys! Thanks!,

This is one awesome reason the music of the early 70s was some of the best we will ever enjoy.. sheer heart and soul..

Every generation creates music with lots of heart. But just like our parents or in some cases Grandparents said now the kids are into this Yeah, Yeah crap and were wrong we too are way off base to say that about the music our kids listen to. Like You a lot of my favorite Music comes from that era. But we quickly forget all the artists we hated from that time period that were shear rubbish like Bobby Sherman or David Cassidy. The kids now have Justin Bieber and others that are crap but if you look hard enough there are just as many great heartfelt songs coming out now but as always you have to look to Find much of it.I was 7 when this song came out. I heard a lot of great music on the Radio but in 1972 only college Stations played young Bonnie Raitt. I was a smart kid but I didn't start college at age 7.I didn't hear this song until approximately 1977 5 years later when I got it for my Mom's Christmas present because a friend of hers told me she would like it. Turned out he was right. There are songs coming out even today that you will love in 3 or 5 or 8 years from now depending on when you hear them. But their will not be another Bonnie Raitt or James Taylor because music does eventually change.

1972, I think. Bonnie Raitt was playing at U. Mass Amherst, in a Dining Commons of all places, and I think she had been drinking, and she was sloppy, and the band was sloppy, and it was not very good.
End of the night, end of the show, she and Freebo were on the stage alone, and they play Love Has No Pride in the dark, just like this. It was one of the three most magical, transcendent musical moments I've ever witnessed. Saved the night.
This is why music can save us.

Her dad was well known singer John Raitt. My understanding is that she grew up playing with and learning from all the old blues men. It shows, it shows. The Bonnie Raitt collection album is made up of her favorite songs with stories about each one. Very interesting view of her life and talent.

Go Baltimore!! (I was raised there)....there are MANY Bonnie cuts which are world class IMO.....and, of course, many incredible vocalists....Nora Jones, for example also. Bonnie's "Give It Up" Lp was perhaps her hallmark...an amazing energy generated in that garage!!

Awesome! Talent, technique and taste. Bonnie's great and the song is just painfully true...it should be embarrassing to recall being that desperate, just being so dependent, so pathetic, that you'd admit to being helpless, completely vulnerable...but somehow I remember that as the time I was most completely honest with someone.
Of course, it was a disaster, but it helped me appreciate this song!

I came across this and had asked ANDRE to work the chords out with the thought of playing it. However everytime we tried i would bawl like a baby. We never did get to play it and now ive just come across it again and tried to play it, its like yesterday and im crying my heart out.I guess its because these words fit a person i really loved but couldnt have, seems so long ago but the pain is still there.ENJOY THE SONG ITS BEAUTIFUL!

One night, at about 2 AM this long-haired cutie came in, guitar case in hand, and gave the old "Water Rat" a commission check for a gig he had booked for her. She must have been about 21 at the time.

I do know that Linda Rondstadt recorded it prior to Bonnie, Linda’s 1st album was released in 1967, I was 12. Lucky me, I have seen Linda & Bonnie many many times, in California and in Washington State, they are both excellent musicians with gorgeous vocals.

@sweetestgurl4u2luv - yeah, this is a golden "era" of music really and she still sounds sweet and soulful. Frebo is great on bass and backing vocals...he comes to Kerrville Folk Festival usually and I see him out there...lots of fun. Going there in two days for the 18 day festival of music and love and camping with nature. I will tell him of your comment along with the others... We are all together!....we are all together....

WISH my wife (currently separated) would listen to this.
