Thanks. I'll show this video to my husband. Our lazyboy sits in a carpeted room, and yet I can hear it on the opposite side of the house as it literally sounds like a gunshot going off. I'll admit, it actually makes me angry when I hear it if I'm trying to sleep (i work nights & sleep during the day) I swear I will never ever purchase another lazy boy again if they don't make them silent. Sure seems like in this day & age someone could make a good recliner that doesnt sound like opening day of deer season. 🤔
You should probably start shopping around. Lazy boy patented that mechanism that's what makes lazy boy lazy boy. That's how it works they don't try to make the perfect chair they try to make an idea that is good they can patented and then no one else can use that design. I'll promise no one is even working on coming up with something new they have brand.
OMG!! We just recently purchased a Lazy Boy living room set with the rocker. I read the directions before use. Every time we would set it back to the original position, it felt like it was going to break, no matter what we would do we couldn't get it to close quietly. I called the store where we purchased it with our concern, they stated that was the way LB rockers work. We still weren't sure, kept thinking we were going to break it. Then we found this video after doing a search, what a difference it makes!!! I think the stores need to start informing buyers how these rockers work. We were so concerned with it breaking.. Thank you so much for this informative video!!! 👍👍
There is noise and then there is a very loud clunk. Our Lazy-boy sofa recliner is very smooth and makes very little noise when the footrest is put down. The same with my big Lazy-boy recliner. But my wife's makes a very loud cluncking noise and nothing anyone has suggested so far helps. We will try putting one leg on the floor and lowering the footrest but I don't think my wife has long enough legs. The recliner in this chair is quiet and smooth like mine is but there is something wrong with my wife's.
The real noise problem that occurs with these chairs ---- we own 3 of them and I've thrown out 2 broken ones in the last 20 years ---- is the noise created when rocking or gliding, which ranges from "squeak-squeak" to "creak-creak" to a knock like a gunshot. This video does not even mention that or attempt to solve it nor does the sales person try rocking or gliding in the chair when you sitting in it. I gave it a thumbs down.

Same thing here. The loud noise would wake up my husband also. This video has eased our minds that we won't break it..
Putting your leg down between the foot rest and chair when closing works wonders! Thanks :)
What about the squeaking and other sounds? What are your recommendations on that?

Thank you. Do you know other thing to customize my Astor manual rocker/ recliner? I heard i should turn chair over and adjust a bolt or something?
You can adjust the tension of your recliner if it's too loose or too tight. Here is our tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/g7MwZGP_DH4/v-deo.html
Thank you Sir
Mine makes a squeaking noise when I breathe while reclined. I can’t find what needs lubricated. Any ideas?
This video is really helpful with that: ua-cam.com/video/zr9Wxd31cWY/v-deo.htmlsi=FKT2-WStrOBlBwqd

If this video doesn't help, you can always contact the store you bought from and have a technician come take a look at your wife's recliner.
It is the sound of comfort, AND build quality.
What you meant to write was "the sound of a *lack* of build quality".
