Am I the only one who just randomly search for sotn stuff from time to time? Like you're just sitting there at work and your brain for no reason is like "damn sotn is so awesome." And you embark on a quest to quench your sotn thirst.... This video quenched my sotn thirst
More than two years later and I still can't get over how great this is. I don't think it's possible to arrange or perform this piece any better. This is perfection.
There's a pretty good fan arrangement up on MuseScore now by Louis Caspynal. It's similar and one of the more complete versions I've found. Though it does take a few minor artistic liberties, it's in pretty good taste. He uses a bit more articulation and so makes the piece a tad more playful and dramatic in nature. It's probably a slightly easier arrangement than what is in this video, but not by much and has its own challenges. I'll be performing it at our recital in June. I'll be opening with Mozart's D minor Fantasie, and closing with the Partita. (and if there's time, I may actually open with Brahms Waltz in D Minor as it's a short waltz, then go into the Fantasie and close with the Partita). I have high praise from my teacher, hehe. When she first heard the piece when I showed it to her in January, she didn't care for it. But now that I've just about got it put together (not QUITE up to tempo, but getting there) She's changed her mind and decided she doesn't mind it, just from how I choose to interpret the arrangement and how I finesse the pedal work (which is to say I try to avoid full sustain except for the middle section). Great work with this as it's not an easy piece. Solidly late intermediate (at least the version I'm tackling) and with your version, possibly early advanced repertoire, maybe about a 6 on the Henle scale. Not sure it'd quite be a 7.
I swear to god, I watched your video before and I didn’t really finish it as I was just listening to it and props to you because you’re good but damn I wish I finished this video back then because you gave the piece a closure unlike the OST where it just loops/cuts back to the start. Props man, props.
I was thinking the exact same thing, slightly romantic as well... it is playful, soft and pacy, then it goes very intense and visceral... hence why I say that it has a slightly romantic vibe...
The real difference between piano and harpsichord is the variable volume that makes piano so much more expressive, whereas harpsichord can’t really vary in this way and was instead expressive through fluctuations in tempo, giving it a more austere and impartial feeling we associate with say, the aristocracy, or vampires… To hear such a work on piano gives me hope that even monsters can possess a soul, of sorts.
Fun Fact: I cleared the game last week again ..... Today this video randomly shows up and .... i think i need to play SOTN again... over and over.... This is pure masterclass in pianoplaying.
thank you!!! I just replayed Portrait, Aria, Harmony, and Dawn a couple of months back and they're all just so good, I'm due for a SOTN replay for sure
Wow, I went through youtube listening to many versions of this song and this is the best piano arrangement I've heard, exceptional quality and beautifully played. You even got the signature tremolo in there, nearly made me shed tears.
@@purpleschala Yes, all time fav of mine! Recently played ROTN which involved the same creator and composer from SOTN, while it was full of nostalgic Easter eggs and the experience felt like somewhat of a reincarnation of SOTN, at the end it left me desiring for a remake of the classic with similar graphics. I need my "soul steal!" and "dark metamorphosis!". Lol The soundtrack in ROTN was great, it had remixes of various Castlevania titles, but nothing compares to the theme set by SOTN. Konami has some new Castlevania titles in the works, why not an SOTN remake? I'm sure Ayami Kojima might be reluctant, but I'm confident that the classic can be brought back and it would be a hit.
As an amateur pianist who feels such an emotional impact from your playing, I now wish I had spent more time on the keys practicing these gaming memories. Such a shame I can only like this once.

wow, what you did here, this was beyond words. To bring back all those memories with such a faithful, beautiful and skillful arrangement. you did honors to those memories. Thank you !
I don't know much about piano, but thank you for your notes on creating the arrangement. Very cool to understand at a high level that the song does not immediately translate directly to the piano. You did the song amazing justice by the way.
AHHH I LOVE 8BITMUSICTHEORY! That is such a great video and his commentaries are amazingly well done, very informative and entertaining and academically sound at the same time. I am honored you found me from that search, thank you so much!
I'm a huge fan of SOTN and it brings back so many incredible memories from my early twenties and this was one of my favorite songs from the soundtrack. I rarely comment on anything on UA-cam but after realizing that I've watched this AT LEAST 100 times over the last 3 years and enjoy every last second of it EVERY SINGLE TIME, I had to say something. This is as perfect as an arrangement can be and performed amazingly as well. This is a true masterpiece and will be watching and listening to this for years to come!!
Thank you for bringing good old memories back. the music reminds me of many (Good) sleepless nights and many, God so many broken controllers. many nights kicking my brother out of my room because he suddenly wanted to play a different game when I was fighting Death. Thank you for bringing it all back :)
:0 Wow, I just stumbled upon your channel searching for this song, and I am really thankful for it! This is one of my favorite songs of the Castlevania series and I could probably say of all time. Thank you so much! It was perfect!
omg thank you so much!!!!!! It's really fantastic isn't it? I love that Yamane leaned so hard into the Baroque style and this ended up being one of the more popular tracks from the OST!

By FAR the best version of this song. 👌 You are quite something. Please keep playing and posting. I'm forever your fan. This is the most well played and beautiful version possible of Wood Carving Partita.

I do it too and also a yearly play through of it. There’s a reason it’s a classic everything from the superb music gameplay ambience and art design.
I came across her versions when randomly listening to the NES version of Bloody Tears. Fantastic work!
Imagine playing playing the music bry. Like she is. Probably feels Friggin awshum!!!
I still play the vanilla game to speed run.
Also play the randomizer. It's very fun
