My first track day in a year on a bike that's pretty new to me... and it shows!
I'm cringing at how slow my corner speed is in some places, but that's just me... not very good in the corners!
But the bike - a 2023 BMW S1000XR M Package - was great. I didn't get anywhere near the limits of this thing! Donington next on the 26th August... hope the weather doesn't spoil things....
Mind you one of the worst things about the day was also related to the bike... now as I rider I don't feel too many vibrations from the engine, but on almost every session the action cameras mounted to the back of the bike kept stopping and I'm pretty sure it's due to primary/secondary vibration. I finally got a full session from a rear-facing camera at the end of the day, by attaching it to the rear L/H pillion peg bracket.
Cameras used:
Gopro Hero 6 (left handle bar, plus all GPS data/telemetry)
GoPro Hero Max (front wheel)
Insta360 One X4 (cockpit)
GoPro Hero 10 (rear view).
I also had a GoPro hero 9 that I think the bike damaged due to vibration and an DJI Action 4 which also wouldn't work when fitted at the back of the bike but I think has survived.
Big shout out to Juan at @TelemetryOverlay for the excellent software that I used to make the maps and gauges 👍
Now in terms of the telemetry/data on screen... yeah probably a bit too much going on visually!! You'll just have to watch the video twice 😂 Making the videos and adding data to them is almost as enjoyable/challenging to me as riding around the track!

P.P.S. I managed the same fastest time on my old BMW R1250R... but I was definately more comfortable with that bike at the time. I'm sure there are still a few seconds to shave off around Bedford on the XR!

Have you got the times from the 1250R to compare the bikes there ?
Thanks Pete! My fastest time on the R1250R here was 2:17.7, so only 0.2s slower than the XR 👀Then again I was much more comfortable with the 1250 when I did that track day. I'm sure I could knock a couple of seconds off my best time with the XR if I go back to Bedford a couple more times.
@@RikkyTang yeah I think so too, you looked very relaxed going around through the esses. I test rode one last week but found vibrations in the pegs, bars and a bit in my thighs on the tank at 110-130kph (Aust). Just sold my 1250R stupidly, so I think I’ll go the RS Sport this time ‘round. Had one last year and really liked it.
