  • A few years ago Mazda entered a new chapter by releasing their first ever 100% electric car in the form of the Mazda MX-30.
Now, although the range of this EV may be on the low side, however, this car makes for a perfect cheap run around vehicle. If you are someone who does short commutes then the MX-30 can provide you that and provide a ride in style.

Iceland here. Ive had an MX-30 for 2 years now (2021) and I love it. As a driving car its amazing, range is limited but as a city snapper its fantastic. I drive up 50km per day so I only need to charge it about every 3 days and it only takes about 4.5 hours which is super handy. Its chuck full of standard features. Only drawback is limited space for passengers in the back, but I run it with a golf set, a golf cart and a baby seat and the space is perfect for my family.
I would rate it at about 9/10 for my use. Its got super premium interior and really fantastic driving feel.
    I love it.

How is it the range doing during the winter months?

Have owned the Mazda MX-30 about a year and one month now. And I must say from my experience, it is a very good car if you are doing short runs around the city or just outside of the cities. It is a car that you should fit up to your style of driving. I myself isn't a drive that is obsessed in driving hundreds of hundreds miles every day. So it is a perfect EV for people who does shorter range of driving.
I have exoerienced that the car is very comfortable to drive. It is supriningly silent and I pretty much feel very safe when I am driving it. For Mazda's first attempt on fully eletric car, they did a good job with it even if its range is a few years behind present time of what you should expect today.
I love the car and I do not have any complains about it. But if I really have to dig for a issue with it, it must be that MX-30 aims for less screen and touchpads like many modern cars has today. Which is good that they focus on that and have you use the nice rotating button and its screen on the top of the dashboard, but has a seperate touchpad further down for temprature control... when in an relly cold climate it is a little bit fiddleing and attention drawing issue. But that is my opinion😁 otherwise I love the Mazda MX-30. It is much better than Volkswagen E-Golf (which I had before this one) if I had to compare the MX-30 with any other car that I have driven.

I'm the owner of a 2023 Mazda MX-30 GS as my first EV because I like the look & finish and the way it handles. Price wise, it's pretty good as Mazda offers a 4000$ rebate and another 12000$ in rebates from the federal & provincial governments (Quebec, Canada). I have to say I use it as a second vehicle to do all my shopping/groceries/meetings etc... all within 40 km from my house and I won't use it during winter time (October 31 to may 01). I understand the range is said to be 160 km but I've done more than 180 km on rural roads & city roads and it was showing15% left! But if you're looking for a primary vehicle for all year around including long trips, you should consider an EV with a 360 km minimum range knowing that in winter time when it's really cold (-20c +), you'll be using "heating/heated seats/heated streering etc..." which will have a negative impact on the range (minus 40% +) and it will take longer to charge. 😊 Average of 16 kwh/100 km.

All the good points of the car are applicable to my needs, whereas all its quirks don't really affect me. Currently looking at used ones, there's quite a few at local dealerships under 6 months old with under 500 miles at almost 1/2 new price. It would only be used as a second car and a shop-hopper. However, if it was going to be a main car there's no way I'd ever consider buying one with such a low range.

Very sad Mazda dropped this car in the US. I can’t decide if they are being studious in their US strategy, or just lazy. They’ve said they’ll come back *at the right time with the right technology* but in reality, that time is now, and they’re once again out of step with market trends.

Perfect runaround? What does that even mean? Hugely expensive, massively depreciating, limited range, backwards step in transportation.

I'm considering it as the prices have tanked because it's so flawed. Tbh though I'm thinking no.

I can see its appeal. My existing vehicle (a hybrid) has not been used for a long distance journey since 2022 - and I didn’t like that long distance drive so much - that I’m no longer going to drive long distances again - so, I don’t really need a car that will do 653 miles on a 45 litre tank of fuel.
I would like an EV without Tesla premium prices and high insurance costs to match.
I DO want a Japanese EV - as I have owned a Mazda MX-3 Coupe (used, 5 previous owners) and it worked flawlessly from 33k miles till I sold it at 77k miles 8.5 years later - so, I do trust Mazda like I trust my Toyota hybrid right now.
The Mazda MX-30 suits my needs perfectly.
I would go for a used GT Sports Tech version - presently available for under £15k with low mileage.
It would easily cover my commuting needs in London and ward off any potential goalpost changes to the existing ULEZ legislation - we could be told tomorrow’
that Euro 4 rated petrol / hybrid cars are no longer compliant from (enter a silly date here) - and the GT Sports Tech is Euro 6 compliant.
We have a small perfectly adequate Japanese built super mini in the family, so that can cater for the long distances.
The MX-30 GT Sports Tech would be the perfect commuting vehicle, especially within the A406 ring road. 32 miles round trip per day with available 7.2 kW/h charging available at work - and mandatory home charging should keep the vehicle reasonably topped up for my commuting and meagre (rare) weekend needs.
Kids have left home, I don’t ferry adults about for anything, apart from my significant other half, and this is a vehicle my heart wants - as against driving a Spartan commuting appliance. I’m happy to say goodbye to Petrol. I’m not far from retirement, the interior is premium with excellently designed switchgear and the obligatory cruise control capability. Lots of other digital powered safety toys too - and I absolutely adore the Crossover SUV Coupe design - despite NOT originally being a fan of SUV type vehicles. The MX-30 GT Sports Tech stands out - and I don’t even see many about. Exclusivity guaranteed.
This would suit me perfectly, the much exaggerated range anxiety be damned. My boy racer days are far behind me, so I’ll enjoy this EV exquisitely at normal speed limits, like any mature educated adult should.
I’m no stranger to planning ahead with regard to charging - I’ll be fine!
I’d wager the local thieves and car-jackers wouldn’t be seen dead in one of these as it doesn’t have an Audi badge on it and lacks Range Rover prestige externally - a total win win for any prospective buyers or owners! Insurance is reasonably low too! Group 19, when I last checked. My old Prius is Group 16.
Oh, and of course, this review nails it. Thank you!!! 😃👍🏾
