One of the few times you actually get to see why these people were the "chosen ones." Why they were called the 13 original heroes. As much as Kalpas prides himself on his strength, he knows that it's his responsibility to use it for the right reasons. I think a lot of people just defacto call him a madman for how he treats Mei, and don't really bother looking more into his character. If you read his lore, you understand that he's been through more than any human(with the exception of Kevin, Su, and Hua) ever has and how he acts isn't blind rage. It's righteous anger. His anger and his character represents anger and grief of that Era, but also the undying flames of hope and the unrelenting nature of humans. Through all that rage is a righteous hero. And it's storywriting like this that make me love the game :)
Sooooo... The Aponia line he's excited to fight her is... justified? in a sense? Considering he's also had claim the woman is far crazier than him where he indirectly can't really calm the hell down?
Aponia indirectly killed Rin, because she put Discipline sh*t on soldier to boost their morale to erase Honkai and turn their soldier extreme that killed Rin even Dr.MEI told not to touch Rin.
Kalpas respects Sakura too much, I know he treats her like her Equal un bussiness's terms, but I think he really cares about her (yeah, I ship them). Every Time he talks about her you can see that, and in this dialogue you understand how sensible Is him about Rin's death.
The moment where i start to put Kalpas to my favorite. Maybe why the MOTHs kill the innocent girl, because they are afraid, because they aren't powerful enough as Kalpas or the other Flame-Chasers. Normal human with super human have their fear standards on a very different measure
Lol Mei asking all sensitive things ("Emile", SAKURA's "betrayal" related to RIN's incident) ofc Kalpas will get triggered so easily, it's already a miracle he didn't kill her right on the spot, showing he's not entirely insane and gives her a chance to walk away.
Even tho Kalpas despised MOTHs, SAKURA might be the closest Flame-Chaser he could get along with. They're like business partners and rivals, working together yet fighting each other to death times and times. Knowing that a bunch of nobodies provoking your sort-of buddy's death plus her littl' sister's, he would without hesitation kill all them if he was there.

The 12th Herrscher incident was indirectly caused by Aponia. The people that killed RIN was under the influence of Aponia's Discipline. Basically, Aponia gave them a Discipline along the lines of "Not to fear the Honkai" but she didn't predict that they would kill RIN as a result and bring the rise of the 12th Herrscher. In the end, both RIN and SAKURA died in the incident and it splintered the Flame-chasers, MOTH and the rest of humanity. Kalpas wanted to kill Aponia for what happened and she accepted her crime. But considering Aponia was still alive when HoTE came, it seems Kalpas chose to let her live(perhaps because her power was still a necessity for humanity at the time). Wanting to unite humanity, Elysia chose to become the 13th Herrscher and planned to have Kevin kill her so that he can be hailed as a hero that humanity can unite under.
On Aponia eyes kalpas indeed must die but Aponia always withstand that because because she doesn't want her blood to be stained with the dirty blood of Kalpas, and then what? kalpas died of his own madness and Aponia laughed seeing his Aponia: kalpas he is a beast and will indeed die in the end

Kalpas and Mobius confirmed killed by HoTE while Eden chose to die with the old world. Kosma, Vill-V and Pardofelis likely killed by HoTE as well.
