The bugs must be a seasonal thing. We were there in June and there were not any bugs to speak of. Nice to see that we are are not the only ones who love people watching!
Those 'bugs' are the 'hormiga culona' (Atta laevigata) future queens on their nuptial flight. These large ants are considered a delicacy, salted and roasted. I have tried them!
Another great video you guys! That town is so colourful omg!! ALSO WE ARE OBSESSED WITH YOUR DRONE FOOTAGE!! AMAZING! ps Incredible intro shots and we think sarah should become an instagram model, those poses at the end were perfect!
Whoa! Guatape is the coolest tourist town that I have ever seen. The giant hill, the reservoir, and the main streets full of tourists taking photos were fascinating. One would expect that something could be done to keep the bugs down on the observation deck at the top of Guatape Hill. This video showed what the town of Guatape, Colombia had to offer tourists!
Yay you guys made it there. What an awesome experience!! 659 steps you got this❤ that’s how I get 😆 when I am hot!! Beautiful views!! It’s so colorful 🎉
From what I have read, those designs on the bottom of walls there are from temporary flooding that occurred in the city itself when they built the dam. After it all drained down, the lower parts of those walls were damaged. So since they had to repair them anyway, they decided to make something special of them, and started creating these "3-D murals"! How interesting is that!!!!
You can do this trip on your own, without incurring in an expensive and rushed guided tour. I would recommend staying one or two nights to really enjoy this beautiful town.
I took 3 of my friends from Medellin who had never been there before and we had a wonderful time for 3 days / 2 nights. Pick your travel time carefully and don't make the mistake we made. Epiphany is a National Holiday the weekend after New Years. It was VERY crowded. We still had fun, but I would never go back on a National Holiday as it is very popular with Colombians as well. I prefer off season travel to avoid the worst crowds anywhere I travel.
I have been to the top 3 times and I have never seen a bug. Vendors have never been an aggravation, either. Love to visit Guatape'! It's more tame during the week. Weekends are crowded.
Good video dudes. The cross is where the old EL penol town you were talking about was. Its not like an authentic one from the old town though, that was all demolished.
@@EricandSarah I’ve watched most of your guys’s videos tbh! I am also Canadian.. from Okanagan, BC kind of in the area where you guys did your Kalamalka Lake video!! You guys are very relatable :) the bloopers was a unexpected funny touch.. should do it again sometime😂🤜🏼🤛🏼
Awesome video! Can you pls post the name of the Airbnb you guys stayed in Main Street where the umbrellas are at? Also, I assume renting a car is not a good option to get from Medellin to Guatape and moving around the city? Thank you so much!
I wonder if someone with acrophobia could handle those stairs. Enjoyed! Thanks. BTW, we just had a 6.8 quake in Ecuador. Building collapsed in Cuenca 4 blocks from me. Check it out!
Hi Eric & Sarah! Just so you know, I couldn't register to your newsletter on Chrome and Firefox (i'm on a Mac) I had to do it in SAFARI because otherwise I didn't see the green box appear! It's ok for me now but if other people ask...
Where did you launch the drone from? There were no drone signs all around. We were also hesitant to launch further away because there were several helicopter tours happening around.
Yes ist a trap because if you stay there a couple days you will not want to come back! What a beautiful place. If you really want to get to know it, rent a boat and go your self explore the lake by yourself. There are a lot of places to visit, don’t stay only in town.
it's shocking to me if it is more popular tourist spot than Monserrat... because i think a lot of foreigners go to Bogota who don't go to Medellin... and a lot of people who go to Medellin and not Guatape
3:13 That's the 'hormiga culona' (Atta laevigata), which means 'big-assed ant'. The future queens are large, and fly off to found new colonies. They are considered a delicacy. Once caught they are washed in salt water and roasted.
I can't stand these #CLICKBAIT-y titles, so self serving, and so harmful to the honest people that live there. In spite of what the decision in the end would be, the harm is done.

Yeah they must be! We met people who when not long before or after and never had issues… must’ve been a short term issue 🤷🏽♀️

It really was! It’s very touristy for a good reason (which isn’t always the case). Really loved it there!
Yay you guys made it there. What an awesome experience!! 659 steps you got this❤ that’s how I get 😆 when I am hot!! Beautiful views!! It’s so colorful 🎉
Finally! It’s such a beautiful little town!!
I live in Penol with La Piedra in view, in my back yard. Glad you enjoyed your visit to Guatape. Great video.❤❤❤
I was there about 10 days ago and it was a bit colder so no bugs and alot easier to do el penol. Personally Guatape was one of my favorite towns.
Glad to hear! I honestly think they were just a random hatching of carpenter ants because no one else seems to have that problem. Haha.
Cool town 💗
And, a lovely mountain - with "the stairway to heaven" 🤗
Thanks for sharing!!
Very accurate description! It did look like a stairway to heaven when it stood out so much!
Sixty cent coffee with a great view sounds like quite the deal and treat!
It really was! ☕️

Great vid! Can’t wait to go
It’s a great place to visit! 😄
Great tip about avoiding tours and doing it own your own at 4:20
Definitely a good thing to know before you go!
You can do this trip on your own, without incurring in an expensive and rushed guided tour. I would recommend staying one or two nights to really enjoy this beautiful town.

6:08 win win situation and rode off in a bike😭😭😭 how awesome is that
What a cute place! One day we'll make it there 😊

Sarah is funny😂love the blooper reel at the end..
Hahaha I’m a nut job 😂 I even missed adding some bloopers cause there was too many

"Social Media Influencer" Sarah from the bonus reals had me laughing. But Guatapé is beautiful!
Hahaha I would be the worst IG influencer 😂😂
Loved Guatape!! Had a fantastic time there...
Same!!

Hmmm not too sure. Although thankfully the stairs felt very secure and not overly steep so maybe it would be okay?

Oh that’s great to know! We’ll try fix that! Thanks :)
Que buen video, gracias
So nice - was there any issues flying drone here?
Such a nice video, thanks a lot
So glad you liked it! :)
Wow nice travel 😊👍
Where did you launch the drone from? There were no drone signs all around. We were also hesitant to launch further away because there were several helicopter tours happening around.
EXELENTE🎉💝💝🥂🥂THANK YOU 👍
i was there and didn't really notice any bugs. What kind of drone did you use? or is it stock footage?
When did you go and how was the weather? Cool shots and vlog
January! And the weather was great :)
I went there on June 2023. The weather is beautifully cool. The hotels don't have A/C or ceiling fans because they are not needed.
FYI my payment to buy a coffee was declined but I was able to use the "thanks" button.
Thank you so much!! 🥰

Maybe it was mating season 4 those bugs because when I reached the top I didn't run into a single one of them
Hello, thank you for the great information, I'm going to Guatapé in a few weeks. Could you please send me your Airbnb place ? Thanks again
