- Revisiting the PRS vs. Peavey 5150. I made a video on these two amps about a year ago and wanted to make an updated comparison to improve on the original video.
No EQ or processing on the guitars

The 5150 in this demo is less bright and more raspy and muddy, though it's subtle. The archon is more focused and those chords ring a little harder. Both sound great, but i'll take an Archon. Have a ton of 5150 sims if i need that sound.

Block Letter forever. I keep trying other amps and keep going back to my block letter. Something about how it feels.
The other thing I liked was the ENGL SE though an XXL cab, which gave me the sound instantly, although I did not compare them side by side. I tried the Achron several times, but it felt like something was missing. It sounded good enough, but didn't inspire me to write riffs.
To each, their experience might vary. My style just fits the 5150 block perfectly. The woofoness is exactly where I need to feel it and bring it out when I need it. 6505 or 5150 II fell short too. I owned all three at once. Some people prefer them though... To each their own.
Christian Noir I agree 100%. 5150 and Engl Se and the Savage are the best amps I’ve ever played. Didn’t dig the Archon very much. Cool voicing, but the gain wasn’t as full and detailed as the Engl and Peavey.

Thanks for the kind words! It's an actual PRS faceplate that I ended up getting through the factory. Was a leftover that was most likely from a custom build or an artist amp. Got lucky on it!
5150 are the godfather of gain that being improved by some brands out there,just like ts808 and stratocaster,can't deny the original one 🤘🏼

Both sound cool and quite close and almost indistinguishable in a full mix. However on their own I liked the Peavey more. So with that in mind the question would be which is cheaper
Gotta keep in mind that the Archon has a good clean channel too. So apples to apples I would factor in a clean amp plus the 5150

Sold my archon and got an old block letter 5150. Big mistake…the archon was a much better amp. The 5150 just has very cutting mids, but everything else is lacking compared to the archon. This is in the room, anyways. I will def be selling the 5150 and getting another archon.

both are great - 5150 seemed to me a bit tighter on the low end - both had an awesome growl - about to receive my new 50 watt archon new head 2021 newer voice with 2 6CA7 power tubes
You're going to dig it for sure. Had a chance to speak some time with one pre release for a while and compare it to mine..super great stuff!

The 5150 only really shines until you run a Maxon OD808 40th Anniversary Tamura mod with it
I really like the archon. I find it more versatile then the 5150 personally.

When I was plugged into archon I was playing that and when I was plugged into the 5150 I was playing that.
