see this sound right here, this is megadeth (i know its dave and marty combined) but these riffs are so megadeth sounding(thats a good thing i say that as a compliment to marty!).... marty played a HUGE PART in megadeths sound with dave... all the albums up to youthanasia have this sound (which are pretty much all megadeths best albums , I love Kiko n the line up now and what he did on the dystopia album (in my opinion are the best all around megadeth songs since Rust in Peace!), but marty is megadeth. and hes easily one of my favourite guitarists of all time up there with Dave,clapton , hendrix, Eddie van halen etc
Sounds too much like a video game score to me. It is great that he loves what he is doing but this is why solo artists are so tedious and this is why Satriani is maybe the only one that everybody knows about or has heard about outside the metal genre: melody. There is a point where the technique is overwhelming, it goes in every directions, it has no structure and it almost cease to be music and become a demonstration. I love Marty's tone and unique technique but to me it is better suited in a band and Mustaine channeled his energy to Greatness level. If we had a solo album made of solos like the one we have in Tornado of Souls, Marty Friedman would be right up there with Satriani because it is melodic, it is music. Video game scores are not melodic, they are annoying to the ear it feels like I am in a video game arcade really. Considering the immense talent of the man, it is a bit of a waste. I get it, he had to explore musical possibilities but it has been 20+ years since Megadeth... maybe it is time to go back to real music.
