*Well-made, delivered quickly, and easy to install with **Fastly.Cool** . I may be imagining it, but it seems quieter than the 14 year-old unit that I pulled out. Of course it was noisy at the end due to failed bearings, so hard to compare.*
Hi, would it be possible if you can provide information as to what smart switch will work with a whole house fan ? My whole house fan is about 10 years old… an Airscape 1.7
FANtastic ! Our house has cathedral ceilings that cause such a heat build-up it often hard to cool living space down. If I can quickly pull the hot air out with a little cat dander it will be very helpful during the summer. Thank you for your video.
Great video! I was hopeful that you would have covered the wiring part as I installed mine today and the switch won’t work the fan. I can get it all connected but when I use either the app of voice to control the fan I hear the switch engage and the fan attempts to start but then nothing. No fan and the switch drops connection to the WiFi.
I have a belt drive and the motor took a crap. Just ordered a replacement and hopefully not a pain to install. A family friend who is electrically inclined took the old one out to fiz and said bearings were shot.. Well he has since passed away so I have to pickup where he left it. Definately need it in the evening once it cools in the evening to draw out the hot air.
Would like more details on smart switch - you say hilo switch on right (assuming also on/off on left) came with fan, did you then just wire in a smart switch between them? Concerned about amperage - want to do similar with my setup (hilo switch to clockwork timer that I want to replace with smart switch) - fan has 1/2 hp motor pulling 5A (600w) to start. Details for smart switch you use?
What a great video! Love our WHfan but such a bummer to get out of bed at 1am to turn it off… I have no idea how to run wires, but what if I put a smart plug up on the attic attached to the WHfan? I wonder if there is a plug up there 🤔 Alternately, do u think a mere mortal could wire a switch if you made another awesome instructive video? Thx!!
great video. like the idea of adding a smart switch. if you accidentally turn on the smart switch while the windows not open, would there any harm or windows breaks?
In general, the power is wired to the smart switch first. Then the output side of the switch is wired into the hi/lo switch. The output of the hi/lo switch goes to the motor.
@@ontheroadwithron2432 Great video. Any chance you can post a picture of the wiring to the smart switch? I have the same two switches. Hi/low and an on/off. Looking at the wiring, I have a black coming in with the white cut not being used on one, with the black going to the left Single side of hi/low. Same switch (hi/low) black wire came off of bottom to on/off switch. Same switch (hi/low) top black wire goes to different wire coming in and white was connected to on/off. Trying to figure out black and red wires coming from smart switch.
You're able to use just a standard smart light switch with the fan? It looks like you have a separate switch for the speeds? I tried a smart dimmer switch on my ceiling fan and it did not work.
So you wired the WiFi switch in front of the hi/low switch? That way you would leave the hi/low switch on hi or low and use the WiFi switch for on/off? I'll be looking to do the same.
@@ontheroadwithron2432 Why did you go with a direct drive? I saw in another review the belt drive ones are quitier. Althogh, I would go with a direct drive otherwise. Has the smart switch held up? Did you verify it can handle that load? Amps?
Great video. Is the Low/High switch something that came with your unit or did you buy that separately? I have an old unit in my house that I'd like to make smart, and I'd love to integrate the low/high power like you did.
Yes the switch and wiring came with the fan. I actually only use the low speed as it moves plenty of air and is a little quieter. The fan motor has separate motor windings for the 2 speeds. Changing the switch out for the smart switch is pretty easy.
Good job, i had my motor crap out and just got another one. I believe it is a stronger motor so I plan on crawling my big ass into the attack in the middle of summer today or tmrw to swap out the motor.
@@ontheroadwithron2432 When I was a kid growing up we had one window unit AC for the dinning room and living room. It was turned on at 430pm and off at 10pm and the attic fan was turned on. If I woke up hot during the night I would go around and close the windows but the one in my bedroom and of course I would not dare go into mom and dads bedroom, but I had no problem going into my brothers and sisters rooms and closing there windows so I would have more air haha.

Congrats
You’re one of the only guys that showed temperatures
Great video. I liked the fact that you used Alexa to control the fun unit. That's a great idea!
how is it great
Finally someone that actually takes some level of measurements for a before and after. Stay cool.
Thanks, we use it almost every day in the summer. Cools the house down about 3 degrees before the sun starts warming up.

Wondering if you could provide a wiring diagram - I’d like to follow this exact setup
I don’t have a diagram but the Kasa switch came with directions and I just followed them.

what is the brand of the smart wifi switch?
I used a Kasa one.
I appreciate it I’m planning on buying one too and do I need a dedicated circuit for it just curious
No, doesn’t draw much power. 3 or 4 Amps as I remember.
Hi. Please reply. Does the switch works as a speed controller?
Rhe switch has either low or high speeds. I actually only use the low speed.

I use Kasa brand. They have been excellent.
At 5:25, you made my Alexa active!
Is it spinning cw or CCW?
Could I install the WHF on the wall of my high ceiling living room? A vertical installation?
I don't see why not, but you need a lot of space behind it and good venting to the outside.
awsome setup, Would you happen to know if this would work with the quite cool brand?
I’m not sure how that one is wired. Best to ask their customer service.
Since quietcool say to install a timer switch with their system I’m sure smart switch will work instead just the same.
Hey can you show or tell me how you wired that Kasa light switch? Did you use the 200 model?
I don’t remember the wires now but the switch comes with instructions.
Do you have the link for the smart switch

Depends on how comfortable you are with electrical wiring. It is not difficult but can be a challenge if you have never done wiring.
Very underrated video

Fan is not that powerful, however it would pull air down all your chimneys, vents and other openings so not recommended.
Can you share instruction on how to wire them together?

Dimmer switches can be tricky. Yes, the fan speed is manual.
was there a neutral wire on fan or switch?
i dont have neutral wire on my fan
hollis blevins the fan has a ground and 2 wires for the Power.
By the way, the foam doesn't really do much. Probably a rug under the opening would have a bigger impact on sound dampening.

Exactly. 90% of the time I leave it on the low speed setting.
How do you change the speed setting if the TP-Link Kasa switch is on/off only?
@dwayned.5238 Looks like 2 switches are needed to do that. I had the same question. Need to hook them up in series.
very nice. where did you buy the Hi Low Switch without the OFF? Thanks
That switch came with the fan
Which model fan do you have?
What was the brand of fan you went with? Where did you get it?

How does Alexa understand whether or not to run the fan on low or high? Also- Was that a Wemo switch you were using?
Thanks Billy Bob. Not making enough acting, have to DIY your fan. That's cool :)
So what smart switch, that works with alexa, did you use? Thanx
dtbrad1 I have been using those from Kasa. Have 7 of them and work perfectly.

RV on the road?
Eric Van Eck well, we’re in between trips. Made a quick trip for grand daughter’s birthday. Got a couple things to do on the RV when we get back.

I had to work around the mid day heat also. Cheers
Have you heard, Quite Cool whole house fan?
Yes. I didn’t want to spend that much money. They sound nice though.
Woh, I like Grandpa Ron :) Where abouts are you at? I wondering if I share the same climate.
San Diego. Usually drops to 65-68 over nite in the summer.
Chicken wire;?
If you really want to have fun with this, open the window closest to your bed and close all the other windows. Like sleeping in a tornado.
Yes indeed. Only works on really hot nights as it will freeze you out in the cooler early morning hours.
