I am 22 years old. I got my surgery done 4 days ago. It all started a year and a half ago when I noticed a bulge a few inches above my hip, but since it was swollen, I thought it to be a boil until it started hurting and I consulted a physician who couldn't exactly tell the cause but gave me antibiotics to dry out the puss, which did help and I would go off meds only for it to start hurting again. Finally, later last year, the swelling was minimized and the same doctor concluded that this was a sinus and I would most likely require surgery. Since I have my vacation right now, I got it done this week. I got to witness the hair growth that had occurred in the tract and man, the sheet looked like someone got their hair trimmed. The surgeon said he extracted about 50 hair follicles (p.s. I have a very hairy body).
Finally, it is painful. Even more than the surgery, the daily dressings are painful and I have to go for a few more days now every morning. Normally a surgeon would try comforting you by saying that you won't feel much when he's cleaning the wounds but even he knows that it is a heinous experience. I will most likely get a laser hair removal surgery done soon as the surgeon suggested or just try to shave the hair on that area regularly once I heal completely.
I advise everyone reading this not to ignore if you are noticing the same signs that I did.

Commenting this a day after surgery. Dont underestimate the power of a surgery to get you out of this situation. However big or small the cyst or boil may be, go to a doctor and get it rectified ASAP. Remember just because the puss drained doesn't mean it has drained completely. In most cases it's only around 30% of the puss that has drained. The remaining 70% puss may still be inside you and may be silently forming a tract and it is usually asymptomatic. Mine had recurred after almost 2 years. Both the times it was just a small boil with minimal pain which drained itself in two days. This time, I was determined to get it rectified, even the surgeons were expecting it to be a laser only procedure. But at the last moment, they a saw a tract which was nowhere near to the size of the boil that appeared externally. Thankfully, the procedure has been done, I'm back home after a day of surgery and recovery so far has been good. Kind advice is that, no matter the size of the boil, and even if your cyst has drained, please go to a doctor, request for an MRI and confirm if there's a cyst tract inside or not. It is possible to be looking good externally but the tract is silently forming inside. In my case, I didn't knew that for two years since my first boil, the tract had been forming. This is a very tricky disease. Please please consult a doctor and preferably request for an MRI to be done, to treat it in the best way possible.

This is completely incorrect about always needing surgery, especially in the case where it is very minor. Mine went away completely with warm compresses, exfoliation, and topical antibiotics.

@@SilentCyborg11Mine started at 28. It flared up 4 or 5 times a year for decades. I am 51 now and just had one of the worst flair ups ever. They say it's stops around 40 for some reason. Mine has flared up way lass in the last 10 years. For me it's all about not sitting in a way to piss it off. Surgical options have VERY poor long term results.

@@SilentCyborg11another add in is always wipe down towards your business., I know it's TMI but really when talking about butt issues any words of wisdom help. Small fissures can develop in your top butt crack region and pushing feces in there is no bueno. Use a wash cloth daily back there, down strokes. Wish you luck. This shit sucks
