      So for me 230lbs 5'3" 29yrs old working out 3-4 days a week a BMR calculator says my maintenance is 2600 and to lose weight I should eat 2100 and extreme weight loss I should eat 1600. If I'm doing my workouts and fasting 20/4, should I be eating my maintenance or the weight loss of 2100?

    I'm only half way through the video, and I see 4 problems. My working overnight 7p-7a in the hospital. Different people have different reasons for choosing that shift (it's not always the shift differential) I have gained 13 lbs dispite the fact that I'm hardly eating as much as I used to, and I barely sleep 3 hours a day even though I have room darkening curtains and take melatonin no longer works for me.
    We just aren't made to stay up all night. I'm sharing this with others, and will have to make some adjustments.

      I haven't slept well since 2009. I hardly eat anything. Have gained 90 lbs. and nothing I do helps me lose weight. Through menopause I acquired hypothyroidism and eventually severe adrenal fatigue. I cannot handle any amount of stress. Am currently facing homelessness in FL. (rent is too high)
      I work in a funeral home full time.
      I feel for night workers, and especially nurses, caregivers, etc.
      It's endless work. Sending you well wishes 🌿🕊💕🌎

  • @pineze2
    @pineze2 5 років тому +3

    Amazing videos... one after one. People love to put the blame on one thing only for their failures. Not diferent with diets. If you don't do the right things, you may not touch this til you can understand at least the basics. I'm back to school doing a post grad. in Feed Behavior, as a psychologist, just to understand better this topic and give a better help for my patients. I don't know how to say, but my work has been decreased when I focus on their diet first in a short therm results. Is something like doing keto for a long fast. You can fast with carbs, but you'll have to sell your soul to the devil to pass the fist three days without food. Same in the therapy. I can just work on the psychological aspect, as usual, but if I fix their diet first, man, it's miraculously better for every kind of issues. Short therm results are the most dificult in a psychological treatment. Depression and anxiety decreases significantly and become more controled in a faster period of time. Another psychological disorders has shown significant treatment improvement after a better diet protocol. Stress has became, again, the biggest enemy in therapy. I'm amazed how much I've been learning from the nutritional aspects for a better mental health of my patients.

    Hi Dr. Ekberg! Could you please do a video on what happens with excess protein in the body? I'd like to know what are the mechanisms the body has to deal with it, both in people that do some kind of training like weight training and in sedentary people. Your videos are amazing. Thanks!

    I battle with this problem - when I get tired and go to bed, at least 50% of the time I get more alert after I lie down, or I sleep for 30 minutes and wake up alert. I never know if this is going to happen because I feel the same level of tiredness before I go to bed every night. I'm a 71 year-old woman in good health and have been on the keto diet for a little more than a year. I am sure my insulin resistance is getting better as excess weight is slowly going down also, but I can tell this healing process will take about another year. I hope you can answer my question regarding sleep. Thank you Dr. Ekberg.

My A1C was 5.8, but to my surprise, when I did another test at the end of the 4th month, my A1C was still the same! I had stopped eating starchy foods and sugar and was hoping to get a lower figure, but it wasn't the case.What could have gone wrong? Any thoughts please. Thank you.

    The thing with being a vegetarian is that if you're not gonna supplement yourself with b12 and heme iron and eat a huge variety of vegetables you'll be defficient... And all that b12 and heme iron is still extracted from animal meats, so i'm not so sure if that still means less animal suffering or not, but yeah.

    Dr. Sten, I reformed my diet by following your videos, except in one area: I cannot seem to give up milk in my tea and coffee. Therefore I can't really be keto. I am trying to lower my A1c, but to no avail. Please tell me off! Linda, South coast UK. X

    • @user299792
      @user299792 5 років тому

      How much milk do you use in a day? Try to use whipping cream with 30% fat instead of milk. You need much less cream than milk to have the same or even better taste, and so you get less sugar and more fat which helps you to be in ketosis. Oh, and of course no extra sugar or sweetener in your tea or coffee. 😉
      And to lower your a1c needs time, the a1c is a 3 to 4 month average of you blood glucose level, just be patient and continue with lowering your carb intake.

    Hi there Dr Ekberg,
    Merry Christmas and I hope you have a wonderful new year. I have a question for you. I am a large person who is loosing weight thanks 😊.
    My question is I love my cycling I do compete in races I'm not an elite rider. But what do in fueling myself before during and after rides and races. Most rides are 40-60km long so a good 3 hours at most. Hills will be part of my training but mostly flat rides. As most cyclists eat carbs before during and after.
    Thanks for your videos they are very helpful and so cool as I debate things with my GP.

    Thanks for the informations, but it's a little bit confusing with GH and cortisol.
    Decreasing GH and increasing cortisol means losing weigh normaly, but the video is telling opposite.

    Can you explain why my blood pressure goes up when my blood sugar goes down? My resting blood sugar is usually around 110. During the day my glucose will go down to 80 or 90 or so and my blood pressure goes up. I can tell when my blood sugar goes down because I get tingling in my toes and fingers (I assume its diabetic neuropathy) . Maybe the rise in blood pressure is related to the neuropathy ?

    Have you done any videos on carb cycling - the impact of occasional medium-carb days for people on keto, or who have regular 5-2 or 3-1 cycles of low carb and higher carb days? If so, link, please? If not, that would be a great one to see! :) Thanks!

    Yes, Surprised I am still here with what all I ate in the past. Now 73 yo, not diabetic.
    Now retired, I agree with you on the Holiday or Birthday occasions when I was working at Motorola and part time on weekends at a hobby shop. It is nice to have people bring in snacks to eat during the day, but they were always Rolls or Cookies with tons of sugar on them, or you would got out to a celebration lunch and stuff ourselves with bad foods and deserts. My favorite Roll/donut was the chocolate long john rolls at my hobby shop. Celebrations were allot of times going to our local Pizza places and stuffing ourselves with delicious Pizza. So I have been there, done that.
