    I can see hold useful this vice can be. Next time I need a new vise I will look into this.

      I am really liking it. There is one more vise that I want to get my hands on that will give this one a run for its money. But that will probably be late this year before I can save up for it.

    What about the attachment points for mounting the vice? It looks weak compared to you typical 4 bolt design. How thick are those screws? Or are they bolts? Im planning on mounting this through about 2-2.5in of butcher block and cabinet top

    • @TheRogueBanshee
      @TheRogueBanshee  6 місяців тому

      Really good questions. I had my concerns about it too before I started working with it. After all my 4 1/2 inch bench vise uses much thicker bolts. I had this mounted to a bench with a 1 inch thick top (it was actually a dining room table top) using the bolts that they give you, (they are bolts) and was quite concerned about the same thing. I barreled a bunch of ARs when it was on that top and had no problems. I also pulled and yanked on it and it lasted. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked as well as it did. I clamp now because I built that butcher block myself and just cannot bear to drill a hole into it. Plus I can pull it off quickly to have added bench space. The block that I have it mounted on now is 2 1/8 inch thick with the bottom mortised out so that it fits flush on the bench and to accommodate the 2 inch carriage bolts that came with it. You can always get longer ones at the hardware store.

    I would like to see you install a barrel nut down to its max torque of 80 foot lbs with this. I'm skeptical about it's ruggedness.

    • @TheRogueBanshee
      @TheRogueBanshee  2 роки тому +1

      The more I work with the vise the more I put it through its paces. A week ago I was torquing a 308 barrel extension to 150 ft lbs and it held (the vise is only rated to 100 ft lbs). I was supprised and sorry that I didn't film it. I think I bent the thread rod a little as it is tighter to turn but not too bad. I wouldn't recommend going over manufacturer specs but I just had to know if it would hold. Also, I was skeptical about the same thing when I first got it. Honnestly, I thought I would break it barreling up a rifle for the first time on this vise.

      I agree! Purchased Avid AR Master Armorer kit and highly disappointed in quality of punches. Attractive products but question their value in real world application. The master wrench is solid!

    Do ya think the pic rail slot in the vice would be a solid enough spot to clamp down on to torque a barrel on an upper by chance?

    • @TheRogueBanshee
      @TheRogueBanshee  6 місяців тому

      sorry, just saw your comment. I wouldn't attempt to use the pic rail slot for that. It might work, but there are better tools for that.

    Im preparing to mount a vise to my bench, do I want to place a sheet of wood down first before mounting it like you did? Is that so you don't leave an imprint on the bench? thanks!

    • @TheRogueBanshee
      @TheRogueBanshee  Рік тому

      I have it mounted with C Clamps so that I can move it around on the bench. That is why it is mounted on a block of wood. I used to have it direct mounted on another bench and decided I needed modularity on the new bench.

      Look at the inline fabrication quick change mount and storage dock. Saves bench space and you can lock anything down to your bench.

      That is the Real Avid Armorers Master Kit Pro. You can see that in action on a couple of videos in the past few months. Namely the freefloat video ua-cam.com/video/CL-ckSCiawU/v-deo.html or the Master Armerors kit pro video ua-cam.com/video/x_5Wx1pxbt8/v-deo.html It is pretty slick. If you don't want to buy the full kit, they sell just the Crow Foot set as well. About 5 days ago I negotiated a discount code for their website. RARB22 will give you 10% off.

I will have to try again. I have another bench that I am building in the studio and I really want to run his system on that bench.
