Never knew people hated these boats so much. I have one, a Tahiti jet, and I get nothing but complements and people that want to hear it rip when I’m at the lake. I guess the people that hate them don’t have anything to say in person.

Love seeing the kids drive. They are far cooler than their video game playing buddies at home and help keep the sport alive 'cause they'll remember that feeling when they are old enough to pilot one of these beauties of their own.

My uncle used to race these boats back last 60's 70's. I was just a toddler at Long Beach harbor watching these races. His boat number was E85 - I'll never forget. This video brings back a TON of great memories!! He had a big block chevy 350 in his. When he would fire it up the day before the race the entire neighborhood would reverberate! Man the sound of those open headers. What a great day out for a kid. Thanks for posting!!

What's amazing is despite your paranoia all of these kids survived! (video is 10 years old) And all the adults came up boating in the same manner and they (obviously) survived too. I do agree, that life jackets aren't a bad idea but I also believe society has become ridiculous trying to regulate every little thing we do.

My dad used to take us to the boat races and Watkins Glenn when we were very little and we couldn't wait to go back . It's called ways to enjoy life as a family . Picnics and fishing were normal weekend lifestyles . Today's family doesn't exist because everyone is doing their own thing . I vote we return to the simple family life !

Thanks for uploading this, I love tuff boats that are family fun boats as well. Very noticeable difference in ride characteristics with them too based on hull driveline and motor mount. I still love a traditional centre mount, direct drive and motor facing forward not backwards, exhaust through the transom and a screen of some sort, even if small. I love the older 60's 70's & 80's boats, got a lot of cool & are collectable classics now!

Great video. Good to see the families enjoying the hobby. I'm glad to see some of the adults wearing PFD's. If you are going to get in these fast boats and open it up, everyone on board should be wearing PFD's. I knew three people that were in a boat on Havasu going about 100 when they crashed. Sheriff dive team found them...at the bottom of the lake. Wear a PFD people.

I learned to water ski at age 5 behind one of these on lake Mead. Back in the 60's and early 70's 18 foot flatbottom boats towed speed skiers in the ocean race to Catalina island and back.
Big boats are only necessary for individuals requiring all the creature comforts of a cruise ship. If you like Hot Rods and Hot rod boats stay small, light and powerful just like Hot Rod cars. Thanks for watching the video! :)

These boats are 2 feet longer than a 57 Chevy Bel air! It's not that these boats are small. it's that people falsely believe they need a 10 ton 40 foot barge to go boating. Toss out the excess power robbing freeboard and join the world of Hot Rods on water where just like the pavement, it's all about power to weight ratio not "fluff" like lighted drink holders, bimini tops and ipod docks and an engine you can't even hear because its weak or covered up. lol

I haven't been in too many flats, but in Tulsa for years Steve Carbone, yes, the former nhra top fuel champion was hooked up with Lloyd K Stevens of the Oklahoma fixture company. They ran usac, world of outlaws, sdba, drag boats. Mr Stevens was elderly but loved speed. He had to of the boat pilots killed in a three year timespan. I think one was a blown fuel hydro and the other a blown fuel flat. seeing as many things go afoul on engines in my lifetime, I don't think I would let anyone ina v-drive without a kill switch, a good jacket that wlill float head out of water and maybe even a helmet if it's time to play Once a flat starts to lift, I don't think there is any way to stop a blow over. To not take basic safety precautions may look way cool to an idiot but it doesn't impress anyone else at all.
