    The point is the journey, as it is in Buddhism, not a single identity or starting point. The whole point is that if you’re on your own journey don’t stop half way to buy into someone else’s view of the world- don’t believe the tent preacher who has “all the answers” because they say so. The point is to trust your own journey and let that work give you the confidence to continue to go forward. You can find your answers- eventually- don’t trust the person who interjects and says they can describe it all- describe it all for you. That person believes in themselves, not you.
    The book is about trusting yourself. Peter had to learn to trust his own judgment and choose to love Walter of his own choice.

    Reading UA-cam comments about the Trump shooter reminded me of this book. I read it in the late 1970s. I no longer have the book What I recall is that the author was about to have brain surgery. He said that, among his mental patients, the ones who were silent were the most likely to become suddenly violent.
    When I entered "if you see the buddha on the road..." on the UA-cam search line I found your book review and subscribed to your channel.

    The book is, in a sense, about the fact that any individual must find their own path, be it a path to healing or whatever else. Peter Bishop believed that he had to make his own way. That's the connection

      @@1book1reviewyou're welcome! I actually became interested in the book for the same reasons as you, because of the TV show, 'Fringe'. I haven't actually gotten ahold of a copy to read it myself yet, but I've done some research into it, which seemed fitting, given the heavy subject matter, my interest in the connection between the book and the TV show, and my own involvement with mental health and healing.
      Quick question and you don't have to answer, but what's up with the "oh hello false friend" at about 1:38? It kind of threw me a bit.

    Hi 1Book1Review. I like your review but I have two things to comment on. First one is if you are going to be bothered about pronouns or the amount of references to males in a book that was written 50 years ago (and if the age of a book is an issue), then you are not going to read any of the best books in the world. Not only best, objectively speaking, but just books full of knowledge. Not to mention you are going to be obligated now apparently to dis on Shakespeare. Good luck with that. The second issue I take is when you say that you were into some parts of the book while others not so much. Well you just summarized the experience of reading 97% of the books out there. Rare is the book that captivates anyone though it all. Am I wrong? I mean, finding a book that captivates you one hundred per cent is the mark of a book that you absolutely love. And those are rare, by definition. Well, that's it. I love this book tho. Thanks anyway for the video.

    • @1book1review
      @1book1review  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your comment, although I don't see how you managed to draw the conclusion from a nonfiction book to Shakespeare in terms of pronouns. And I think it is important to mention what I experienced in terms of pronouns while reading this book as it speaks to how far we've come already. And you also must have missed the part where I said I just replaced them in my head as a way of dealing with this for anyone who is bothered by it. Secondly I don't expect to love everything in every book, but I also think it is worth mentioning when talking about a nonfiction book in a review format that others look to to see if they want to pick it up or not.

    I think Sheldon was aware that men needed as much help as they could get & very few back then in my experience & particularly in Australia Read self help or mental health books back in those days. I think it's great that you just change the gender to suit yourself because it's not the gender that matters it's the human experience & the ones that touch us I dare to offer are those that have some of ourselves in. Great revue :-)

    Well, I didn't hear of this book from watching Friends; that's for sure. I want everyone to know that from the get-go. I DO NOT watch Friends. I am an uber-proud member of the Intelligentsia, thank you very much, and such things are far, far beneath me.
    The premise of this book is that one is already buddha (uncapitalized on purpose), and no teacher is required, so for this reason, I am not going to read it. I mean...I should not read this book because I already (apriori) have its knowledge within me.
    If you're new to these types of ideas, you should definitely check out Joseph Campbell's, "A Hero's Journey."

    BTW, psychotherapy is something everyone should try; however, mental health is a life long
    journey that never ends.
    As far as I'm concerned, therapy is only a door opener to teach people to feel their feelings. We can only, truly, cure (fix) ourselves.
