On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-14-23.
We're looking at a 1971 Plymouth Cuda in Butterscotch Paint. The car comes with the 383 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Tanya. Tanya’s grown up here whole life in this car, and her Mother gifted the car to her in 2011. She shares she’s a Muscle Cars Girl. What would you want to share with other women about how you feel when in this car? She said the feeling she has listening to her cars exhaust is as exciting as hearing the heartbeat of her baby’s ultrasound when she was pregnant.

She had me at "it's like hearing a child's heartbeat during an ultrasound".
I agree :-)
From car seat to front seat, Tanya and this 'Cuda were made for each other! What a great color too, especially in the sunlight. Thanks for finding and sharing Tanya & her 'Cuda with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, My pleasure sharing Tanya and her car with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
@@Tanya-lb1sb Great car! You're welcome!
Very interesting video. Saw a movie called "Tommy Girl" about a girl that worked in a garage and had her own muscle car. Tanya reminded me of that movie. My sister had a 71 Barracuda with a slant six. It wasn't a muscle car, but it was still fun to drive. There are a lot of differences in the two cars I noticed a difference in the instrument panel, of course my sisters car didn have hood scoops, billboard, spoiler, or shark gills. You didn't spend a lot of time going over transmission. My sister's car had a slapstick automatic. The gears were 1,2, and D. You could put the gear selector in 1st gear and as you drove hit the selector with the palm of your hand as hard as you wanted and it would go into 2nd gear. You could hit it again and it would go into 3rd gear, or you could just put it in Drive and it would shift automatically. They also had an optional pistol grip gear shift. This is a very nice car. I think the 71 grill was the best locking of this generation of the Barracuda or Challenger lines. Actually I liked the Barracudas better than the Challengers.
Hi Daniel, Happy to read this reminds you of the movie :-) Glad to read your Sister had a fun car too, Lou
🙋♂️ THANKS LOU TANYA FOR SHARING HER DREAM 🤩 CAR 🤗😎💚💚💚
My pleasure sharing this car & Caretaker with you Budget Audiophile Life-long :-)

@@Tanya-lb1sb IT IS A GREAT STORY💚💚💚
Beautiful Cuda, awesome owner, and amazing story!
Happy to share this episode with you :-)
Thank you!
What a great gift handed down by Tanya’s mom!! Fantastic story! And you don’t see too many Cuda’s on the road !! I’m sure this heirloom will be handed down to her children one day!
Hi Dave, Happy to share this "heirloom" with you :-) Lou
It absolutely will stay in the family!
Great looking car and gal , some lucky guy out there to have found Tonya.. 👍🏼
I agree :-)
I think Tonya just broke a few hearts out here, as well as the speed limit.
Tisk tisk Lou.
Great vid you guys.
Hi Scuff, My pleasure sharing this car & Caretaker with you :-) Lou
Thank you!
This car has a great story and glad to see that it was in a family for a long time, lovingly. Glad to see another.... woman (no surprise to me) into this era of muscle car. So glad to see an original '71 Cuda 383. Nice color combo too. I remember these well. Out of all of the muscle car's my father bought during these times, he didn't get a Cuda. But almost....got a Challenger Convertible in Red with white top/white interior with the 383, this year. Go Tonya!
HI K B, Happy to read you enjoy this car & story :-) Lou
Thank you I really do love and appreciate my gift from my mom!
The Cuda was phenomenal, but my eyes were glued on my orange painted dream car at the start of the video.
Here you go. ua-cam.com/video/nHgUS-Hgx98/v-deo.html
And that's why I love Plymouths... Lou, this episode is👌♥ Thank you my friend👍
Hi Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas, NICE! You're welcome, Lou
What an amazing car story and an amazing woman. Thanks Lou!
My pleasure sharing this episode with you Gary :-) You're welcome.
I think the best car stories are those where they are passed on as a treasured member of the family...beautiful 'Cuda!
Hi Velocita, Thanks for sharing the stories you enjoy, Lou
Very treasured this car means the world to me!
Great cuda. She gets it. She loves her car. My favorite thing about the 71 is the gills. My mom had a 68 cuda, she complained until she died my dad traded it in on a 72 Catalina. She loved the cuda and hauled us everywhere as kids in it. I have a softspot for them even to this day. Thanks Lou.
Hi Greg, "She gets it. She loves her car." I agree :-) You're welcome, Lou
Can tell she absolutely loves that car!
Nice to see.
You're right :-)
She gets it...good explanation of her car most people dont get why we like cars so much..Older cars from the 70's and older are so much better than new/newer cars.
Hi My Pronoun is WTF, "She gets it" I agree, Lou
Child's heartbeat. That's some angry-sounding child Tonya :D
....or one great sounding car!
Great Cuda - and wonderful caretaker.
I love enthusiastic owners who have strong connections to their cars. It creates a much different vibe.
Thanks for sharing Lou and Tanya!
Hi Jeff, This is a "enthusiastic owners who have strong connections to their cars." You're right, people who love their car, share a vibe I like to be around :-) Lou
Absolutely I love telling my story!
It’s refreshing to see a Mopar that isn’t a Hemi. I swear that there’s more of them out there now than when they were new.
Hi Dave, Happy to read you enjoy this non Hemi car :-) Not sure if I have good news, more Hemi's will be coming, Lou
Wow ! Tanya hit the nail right on the head when she described the sound of her Cuda's engine sounding like the heartbeat of her baby's heart during an ultrasound. What a car story Lou ! Thanks for sharing this fantastic Cuda .
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy Tanya's comparison description of the sounds of her car to her baby's heart beat during an ultrasound :-) You're welcome, Lou
Tanya is just as awesome as her 'Cuda. Thanks for the great video, Lou!
HI Mike YQR, "Tanya is just as awesome as her 'Cuda" I agree. You're welcome, Lou
That is one fantastic 1971 Plymouth Barracuda with the butterscotch and flat black paint scheme! Equipped with a 383 CI engine with Torqueflite automatic transmission. It's been well taken care of, and it sounds healthy going down the road. This came from the period where Mopar made some cool looking cars, and this Cuda is no exception! It shows that this lady loves her car, and it's been with her most of her life! Nice ride as usual Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this car & ride :-) Lou
This car was my first "child" and I love it like one!
Beautiful '71 Cuda! That car is a keeper and so is the owner! Thanks for the video, Lou.
Win / Win :-) You're welcome architype one.
I've always been a MOPAR fan. This is a gorgeous car and was born the same year as I was.
Hi Eric, Happy you enjoy this MOPAR :-) Glad to read you and this car have the same birth year, Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks Lou!!
Beautiful car Lou the 383 was a surprisingly strong motor and were strong on the strip thanks for the video Lou and you don't see many ladies enjoy a car like this lady.
Hi Leroy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to have ladies on the Channel when they are enjoying their car, Lou
Great Cuda! Better story & history of the Cuda especially the little girl that grew into it? What a fantastic story! Lou you know how to pick'em! Thanks again
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the "fantastic story" of this car. You're welcome, Lou
Thank you for watching and hearing my story!
😍Beautiful Cuda!!!!!👍
:-)
Thank you!
What a car and great story, nice woman. Don't think I have seen a 383 'cuda before, so thanks for this. I really like how the 383 is nicely part of the stripe. Very cool.
Hi danam0228, Happy to read you enjoy this car, story, and Caretaker :-) Glad to read the detail you notice and enjoy, Lou
¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read the details and sounds you enjoy from this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Never seen a Cuda quite like this one. Really nice! Thanks Lou.
Hi Bruce H., Happy to share this one with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Great car! As a coincidence, I was in central PA this past weekend, but not for the Carlisle meet. Drove by the fairgrounds on the Turnpike and we also saw a lot of great Mopars on the road.
My first car was a '71 Barracuda that I bought in 1977 for $1200.00. It was a bone stock 318 with a 3 speed manual on the floor in T-5 Bronze. I put a set of ET aluminum slots with 70's on the front and 60's on the rear....it was a real looker. I have a soft spot for '71 Cudas, and selling it was one of the dumbest things I've ever done.
Glad to see Tonya taking such good care of a family heirloom...hopefully someday her little one will get to be the caretaker of this car....great story too!
Hi Steve, Next time, stop by the Carlisle Event. Glad to read you had a fun car too. Happy to read you enjoy this "heirloom" :-) Lou
@@loucostabile On the bucket list!
Beautiful 'Cuda 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
You're welcome motorTranz!
Great family heirloom… I’m jealous! I got handed down my moms 72 Pinto when I was 17 lol.
Needless to say it’s long gone, but using the Pinto as a high school beater did help keep my 70 Challenger I bought when I was 16 and which I still own, off the salty roads winters and on other bad weather days!
Hate to nitpick but the 383 Magnum air cleaner pie tin is a Dodge thing. Plymouths said 383 Super Commando. Correct repo pie tins are available everywhere like Classic and Year One for about the price of a fill up at the gas station.
Hi Brad, Happy to read you enjoy this "family heirloom" :-) We had a 72 Pinto Wagon....., Lou
I love the sound of the engine. I like the color -- the name is actually Bahama Yellow (the same color for Dodge is called Butterscotch). Thanks for sharing, Lou!
Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds and looks of this car :-) Thanks for sharing the color info. You're welcome, Lou
That's a nice Cuda! Tanya is a nice lady. She looks great in the car.
Hi Ed, Happy to read you enjoy this nice car & Caretaker too, Lou

Hi Lou, what a great looking Cuta, they are a realy good looking car, with plenty of get up and go, great show. 👍👍.
Hi Philip, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
That's one Kool car and one Kool gal with a great story.
Hi Mark G, I agree :-)
Thank you!
nice one!! Thank you Lou and Tanya!
You're welcome Keeff :-)
Thank you for watching!
The 383 engines are very good power plants. They had excellent durability and very good power output. They also are not as thirsty as their larger cousins, the 440 and the 426 Hemi. A modern owner can drive a 383 car to a show without emptying the kids' college funds.
Hi Randy, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Lou
Love those cars that look like they just drove off the lot... over 50 years ago.
It's fun to see them and take them for a ride.
Legacy Mopar cars are the Best of fun! Tanya is loving life!
Hi Gerald, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) When Tanya's in her car, I agree she'd loving life, Lou
Absolutely loving life and being able to see my son love cars as much as I do... tops it all!!
Lou, you struck Gold! Well, caramel ;)
Nice gene978 :-)
what a nice example, that color is awesome
Hi SRT8Driver, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Hello again, Lou! What an interesting story you have done on this 1971 'Cuda! And best of all, it's woman-owned! (You have done stories on women who own vintage cars; love to see more!).
The 'Cudas (as well as the Dodge Challengers - and I'm not including those being made by the company now known as Stellantis) are getting ever so more rare with each passing year. I'm so happy for Tanya; she has something special there and I hope she keeps it in the family. Let's hear it for Tanya - and all the other lady enthusiasts! This hobby is not just for the guys!
Thanks again, Lou, for another interesting story! _(7/28/2023)_
Hello again Know Bodies Full! Happy to read you enjoy this story :-) The hobby is for everyone, so the more the better. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful car. People don’t give that mopar 383 enough love next to the 440 and hemi. I had a strong 383 in my ‘69 Roadrunner… and I had no complaints at all. 💪 🚗
Hi LeilaniRocks. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to read you enjoyed your fun car too, Lou
I'm not sure if this is the car but I can say with complete certainty, I got a chance in 1978 to drive this or another cuda exactly like this one. All the options, color, motor, trans, billboard, was the same as the one I drove. It was just north of Boston, in a town called Wilmington, it was owned by the parents of a friend from hockey. I was the first of my friends to get a license, and they let me take it for a weekend. The one thing that tells me this may not be the one is the fact it was in Boston area with salty roads, however the last I heard back in 1980 was my friend Herbies family moved to Canada and the cuda was left in a field.
I remember it was raining that day I drove it, and I would drift (fishtail back in the day)it every chance I got.
Hi Kenny, The "Fishtail" Cuda. NICE! Thanks for sharing, Lou
Sweet sound and ride
:-)
An great car story.

ATTRACTIVE LADY❤❤❤

Hi Michael, Happy to see you enjoy this car :-) Lou
Go Tanya, and does she ever go in style
Nice :-)
1971 Plymouth Barracuda. The Plymouth Barracuda for 1970-1974 removed all commonality with the 1964-1968 Ford Mustang and replaced it with the 1970-1974 Dodge Challenger. This meant that it shared the same body and same engines, albeit with a unique design different from the challenger. For the 1971 model year, it was the only model year of the Plymouth Barracuda to have two headlights on each side for the front fascia. It was available with engines such as the 383 "Super Commando" engine as shown in video. The most powerful engines were Chrysler/Dodge's 426 Hemi producing 425 Horsepower and 490 Pound-Feet of Torque and a more fuel-efficient, reliable, and cheaper variant called the 440 Chrysler RB. It made 50 less horsepower (375 HP), but made the same torque as the 426 Hemi. It was also in the Challenger, Charger, Dart, Polara, Fury, and more.
The car originally started 2 weeks and 3 days before the Ford Mustang (It was introduced on April 1, 1964, which was before the April 17, 1964 Mustang) and featured a unique design, but with different engines. It sold poorly, only selling a fraction of the Mustangs due to it's too early appearance in the market. This makes it the first TRUE pony car.
Hi Matthew, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Lou
If you're talking about the 440 six pack, it made 390 hp and was only available in a limited number of cars. The 440 4bbl made 375hp.
@@garybishop4030 Sorry, thanks for the correction. Will change right away!
Nice car, in 1971 sales took a use dive
Happy to read you enjoy this "Nice car".
👍🏻🇦🇺💯⛽️MOPAR for life .
:-)
Mopar no car lol
I really like your car foxy lady, including the restoration, and the original color. You really need to replace your dashboard, including reinstalling the original factory AM/FM MX stereo, plus removing the citizens band radio, and reinstalling the factory Goodyear Polygas GT 60 tires or Firestone Wide Oval. The judges can dock you points in the Chrysler or Mopar nationals.
Hi Brett, Thank you for sharing you enjoy this car. Lou
We keep the dash mat on top to protect from the sunlight while on the show field. The dash is original to the car, as per the broadcast sheet.
Nice color, cool mom and daughter, now we know the year of the car but,,,,
Hi Henry, Happy to share this one with you, Lou
👍💯😍💯👍
:-)
Nice, except for the tires; note that the hood is the same for 70 through 74.
Thank you George for sharing what you notice.
The air cleaner should read “383 Super Commando” and not “383 Magnum” Magnum is Dodge version of 383.
Hi Joe, Thanks for sharing what you notice. Lou
Looks a bit too high in the rear . But there both beautiful . Great colour too . MOPAR for life . 👍🏻🇦🇺⛽️.
Hi Brian and Glenda, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
We had the air shocks alittle higher than normal, Tanya enjoys the raked look.
Hey big bro LOOOOUUUU! Whoosh....Whossh......THWACK>>>>>>>THWACK!! Go my super floppy sneakers/Robin slippers by my big brother's handsome smiling face, landing against a big oak in the distance, as you ride in Tonya's supercool 'Cuda lol 🤣🤪!! I'm knocked out COLD and in my tubesocked stocking feet 'n calves, 300 yards back, waiting for you to throw me in the Batmobile when ya have a chance ol 😂😝🤪! I hope you are having a great summer, Lou. I recently got back from an awesome trip to SC (Myrtle Beach, Charleston area) with friends. Wearing my minor league Carolina baseball team caps, my shiny white, minimially laced, tounge straight up DC sneaks flopping off my stocking feet with every step....but good to be back and seeing your awesome videos again. Tonya's Plymouth 'Cuda is so gorgeous (the '71s are the best, no doubt) in butterscotch with the black stripes? AWESOME....as I can feel my DC's getting yanked off again as I type this....definitely what happens to perpetual, somehwat lightweight, chick crazy and very Robin-like JV baseball guys like myself lmao 🤣😂...thanks for your awesome slices of automobile life, Lou!!! 😄JV Johnny ⚾⚾

Chrysler had the style thing going in the later 60's and 70's. Beautiful car in a not very attractive color (IMHO). The color looks like American Cheese. Eww. Regardless the car is stunning and another hit by Lou!
