If you're wanting an RX-78 2 to coincide with that zaku of yours, I definitely recommend the MG RX-78 2 The Origin. The Origin line of kits kind of reimagine the original mobile suits with more modernized designs that keep the identity of their 80's counterparts. I think you'll enjoy the build of the MG Gundam the Origin. One of the bigger changes from the OG is that the origin has a shoulder Canon in place of one of the beam sabers. It also has a small Vulcan gatling gun in the shoulders. I think it'd be right up your alley.
your feeling on the kit are pretty universal, the pipes are always a pain, and when I built mine I also put the torso connection point in upside down. Yes it’s a pain to build, but looks amazing. There’s just something about the zaku II that feels amazing. From the anime to the model kit, the design just feels like something that would actually be made for war. Also, keep up the good content!
Your reactions are funny🤣 you showed the real struggle of a builder, especially when it comes to these intricate sets/models. Keep going homie! never stop learning😉👍
The beads are probably the worst part in this kit but overall the kit itself is one of the best. Great details, great articulation, great to pose and other than the beads, the build is really nice.
this was a recent MG i built and the the bead bits the at the legs did my head in, however after panel lining + water slides + top coat it came out as one of the nicest kits i’ve made
So, the way the hoses are supposed to work is that you slide the red segments over to the curved piece BEFORE you cut the curved part off of the straight one. This makes the piping significantly easier to deal with. There's no shortcut for the leg hoses though, those ones are always annoying to deal with. This kit was released during the absolute peak of the MG line, and is part of a set of models that beautifully recreate the mobile suits of the original Gundam anime. The Gundam RX-78 2.0, GM 2.0, Guntank, Gouf 2.0, and Gelgoog 2.0 are just as great as the Zaku is, and aside from the Gouf none of the other models use the Zaku's hoses. Finally, a quick little tip: not every machine from the Gundam anime series is called a Gundam. If it doesn't have the word Gundam literally in its name, then its just called a "mobile suit". Gundam is a name used only for certain high-performance mobile suits, not for mass-produced grunts like the Zaku.
Understood sir! Yeah I wasn't sure how the whole gundam definition and if the Zaku fit it, but I'll make note of that for next time. Those tubing parts were not easy whatsoever and I see how that strategy would of made it a bit easier. Thanks for the advice and info homie!
I tried the sliding thing and it didn't work... like at all. Literally tore the skin off my fingers. I ended up cutting behind every single pearl and pushing them off with a small piece of metal. I've also used some glowing tape for the mono-eye and monitors inside the cockpit
13:56 yeah that’s kinda how I remember feeling when doing the legs but you know could be worse… the RG Zaku also has all those beads and springs but is also half the size of the MG. Now that was just pure hatred and spite pushing me to finish those two of mine.
the Tamiya stuff just fills better and i dont want to rain on your parade but the gundam maker panel liners have the tendency to bleed into the plastic know from personal experience with my mgex strike freedom but what is nice about them is you can clean them up with an eraser on the bare plastic at least never use them over top coat anyway awesome build and i love the zaku ii still have the 1.0 me and my dad did like 20 years ago and just started the pg cant wait to see whats next
YES A ZAKU!!🎉🎉 (edit after watching vid) Great work on the editing! The intro was spectacular🔥🔥🔥 The final build was amazing, the decal on the shoulder is clean. Can't wait for the next vid!
Also, I learned the Panel Line Pens are good for Out of Box Build. But if you customize, the Tamiya Panel Liner is the way to go. Especially if you add intricate Panel lines, you just need the easy flowing Tamiya on that. And it's applied after applying Top Gloss Coat.
Yo i remember when I built that I was pretty blown away by how simple but detailed the kit was, anyway heres a few others you might enjoy. RG Sazabi (also piloted by Char Aznable) MG Gouf 2.0 (has the tubes too ) MG Sazabi Ver Ka. (very big) MG Zaku Gunner Warrior

Appreciate you bro! Thanks so much for the kind words. Not sure if I’ll always keep doing gunpla videos but for the time being I’ve been having a blast with them!
The tube or hose pieces were the hardest part with this kit. Other than that, the kit is pretty solid. I separated all the fingers on the hands to make it individually articulated.
I really enjoyed how the kit came out in the end! The tube hose pieces were horrible but it all worked out in the end. Glad you liked the zaku as well!
What I noticed from some of your videos is that you spread the runners on the table same way I did when I started, I found it easier to keep them in a file holder, ones you keep vertically with dividers in between, keep the runners like you would a file and sort in Alphabetical order, I found that it saves space and easier to find the runners I need. What I find really cool about the MG is that some of them comes with a cockpit and pilot with a door opening to the cockpit on the chest. If you want a change of pace you could always get some SD kits, some are really adorable while some are awesome and adorable. If you are up for a challenge you can go for the MG or RG Unicorn Full Armor Ver Ka (am still in the process of building), but a warning though, it will take time and patience because there are alot of runners and stickers. If you want to take it to the next level then the MGEX Unicorn would be a good choice cause it has LEDs (If it's still available). Still all in all cool build, whether its tough, frustrating or annoying, whenever you are finished with it and admire your work, it's so worth the effort.
That’s awesome advice! That easily beats just searching for the runners every time I need a piece. I’ve heard about the MGEX Unicorn. Looks like an absolute beast!
9:46 I did feel kinda bad since I’m one of the peeps who recommended this but I think the end product is worth it and you’ve build your first “old” kit since it’s from 2006!
Nice build and editing at the end! Char's Zaku is one of my favorite builds as well! I remember when the Zaku II 2.0 was released in 2009, it was instant buy for me.
I would have gone with the Stedi (blue handle, second below the top ones) nippers as I've gone through four of them with near 200 models built. Take your time with gunpla, the images will tell you exactly what to do. And yeah, the Zaku pipe beads are a little crazy, especially if you do some of the older models like the Gouf.
Just bought a zaku, Darilbalde and Calibarn as my intros to Gunpla. Very excited to get my hands on them, i’ve built a few model kits before but nothing as complicated
I did the exact same with the waist hole. Damn it took its time to fix. In regards to the tubes, I cut the grey piece as close to the bead as possible, took it off, cut the next clear, and continued that because I didn't have to force it.
Yeah some parts of this build took me a LONG time to figure out and correct. The tubes made my life miserable and putting the waist upside down was rough. Hope you enjoyed the kit!
Thanks for picking up this kit. Now you know how it feels to work with old tech because Zaku II 2.0 was release wayyy back in 2006. During those time MG kits are hit or miss. I laugh during this video because your reaction are what I expected 😂 If I remember correctly, MG Gunner Zaku Warrior didnt have bead pipe trouble. Sinanju 0VA from 2012 didn't have pipe trouble like the Zaku 2.0 too. Yes, Bandai fixed it after a lot of complains. I still have my fully painted Char's Zaku 2.0 on display.
@@MaxBuilds007 I used Citadel acrylic paint with hand brush. Khorne Red for darker armor & Mephiston Red for lighter armor. It turn out to look similar like the HG Origin Char Zaku color. Red instead of red & pink.
2:14 a "Coup d'etat" or a “coup” is typically as an illegal and overt attempt by a military organization or other government elites to unseat an incumbent leadership." So essentially an upheavel, uprising or a rebellion. I think you might've meant to say "Coup d'gras" which is defined as "a final blow or shot given to kill a wounded person or animal." Essentially the killing blow. A more fitting term to use in that context perhaps would be "the pièce de résistance" or "the creme de la creme." I'm sorry Max. I'm a tad bit autistic, so I just felt the unstoppable urge to point all that out. I swear I'm only trying to help though. Love your videos.
2.0 Zaku II is the best model kits of all time. Cheaper than PG and MGEX, way higher inner frame details than modern kits and comes with good amount of accessories. Totally not bias being a zeon loyalist.
The Tamiya liner fluid is best over a painted kit! once a kit is painted and gloss coated, the pens would scratch through it (and get gunked up by the paint). Tamiya's liner is enamel so once it's dry it's more durable, whereas the pens can fade easily if handled too much without a top coat. The pens have the plus side of being perfectly safe on plastic and are a lot less messy to use though! If you're a fan of Evangelion I definitely recommend the RG Evangelion kits! or if you want to go big there's a series of very large kits made by a company called Meng. Don't touch any other Evangelion kits out there besides the RGs or the Meng kits though, they're not a fun time 💀
Well, if you think the MG 2.0 version broke you, you should try the old PG 1/60 ZAKU II. Either the green or Char's version will suffice. I had to reshape parts, refit and fill in what felt like pot holes for sink marks in the plastic on certain parts. Not at all what one envisions for a PG kit, even with it's age.
My very first master grade and still my most favorite MG kit. Dang i love mono eyed ms. Btw i actually don't follow the manual on how to install those spring circular or so armor. I cut them individually then install it one by one. Saved my nail and finger from zaku related injuries. I also messed up the inner reactor piece that connects the torso to its waist. Learned the lesson and built more zakus afterwards. I would recommend for you to buy part seperators, (you may also buy a cheaper alternative which works exactly the same with those branded ones, just search watch opener or seperator tool) My hg zaku is also arriving today so cheers!
This kit gave me a alot of trouble, especially the tubing part. And thanks for the recommendation, I've just been using my tweezers to be separating the parts but that would be a good move. Thanks homie!
Just randomly found this and I have to say, great job with the kit and editing. I'm honestly a bit burned out on Gunpla after building about 150+ kits but videos like this help me get some amount of motivation back. (Still have that yet unopened MG Psychozaku weighing on my soul... You should check it out. It's savage!)
Trust me bro. I'm only built 5 kits now and I'm burn tout from it. Couldn't imagine over 150, that's amazing. Glad I could get you back into it a little and happy you enjoyed the video. Appreciate you!
I just bought this and am watching this on my break at work and now im sweating the build bc of the beads. But upon reading up on it shouldnt you have moved the beads before cuttting them from the runner it even shows it on the side of the box..
I'm telling you I did not want to sand one by one for this hahahaha. Did a basic sanding job and said thats good enough. It was a rough kit but extremely cool to see the finished product!
@@MaxBuilds007 in deed in goods but I’m the type if I start I want to force myself perfect 😂😂😂 I may sand all of them one by one if I get 1 🤣🤣🤣 Y I don’t think I get the RX 78-2 RG 2.0 …. Man looks good bud! i like it. I wont be building that but i like that you did and went through all that for me as a viewer lol. Love the custom writing.. Keep up the great work homie
Really nice video! I've been holding out on getting a Zaku 2.0 for so long because I want a green one and I just can't find it at a price I'm willing to pay. You mentioned customizing, and if you really want to get into that, then I think being strategic about what to start with is probably a good idea. Picking a HG with a lot of flat surfaces to make sanding and general prep for painting easier, as well as just having a more simple baseline to add details to.
This kit looks good. That's the best I've got for it. Posing is decent. However, it can't hold shit, those tube's literally gave me blisters and I have to get 3rd party pre-posed hands. It's a good kit if you get it purely for display
If you had trouble with the piping, then you might want to steer clear of the RG version of this kit it's very similar but not a very sturdy. The Hg versions of this kit are really good though!
@@MaxBuilds007 Its a kit that has parts to make a model kit look different. Most are made by 3rd party companies and are made of resin instead of plastic. One I bought makes Char Zaku look like it did in Gundam the Origin anime. It has more detail but the kit must be painted due the parts being different color.
Yea you don’t have to add decals if you don’t want to, I do waterslide decals and tbh it’s the most tedious process of a build, I will build a kit and let it sit for two months til i get around to doing waterslides… also tamiya panel liner is better if you use it correctly, it’s cleaner and more visible lines over time. The Gundam marker panel liner tends to fade over time and the ink expands(can especially see on white plastic over time). But there is no shame in not doing decals and using Gundam marker panel liner, we all do that. I would just stick with what you did with this one for future builds, only adding decals if you feel like it. Also I use alcohol pads to clean up Gundam marker.
As many viewers know, decals are not my cup of tea considering how tedious I find them. But if I think the decals will ADD to the final product I'll do them. Appreciate the awesome comment homie!
I've been building gunpla for 20 years and the MG Zaku fuel pipes are consistently my least favorite thing to build ever. Those beads are so damn hard to slide off the black plastic they're molded around.
*laughs in having built 26 Zaku II 2.0s* Trust me, Chars S model is not the hardest one. The R-1A series, ESPECIALLY IN REAL GRADE, will make you curse so hard you accidentally awaken an ancient Finnish lake troll.
The idea behind how they want you to do the tubes is kinda clever. If you noticed the runner with the beads is almost always molded with the piece they need to go on. So in theory you can cut all the beads loose in one go and slide them on the piece, in THEORY! Reality is your fingers will bleed and it’s a painfull process and the worst part of the kit by far. I can see what they wanted to do but clearly their tech for molding two types of plastic at once on a runner wasn’t quite there yet.
I love zaku, i have 3 mg, 1 rg and plethora of hg zaku including some gouf, i love monoeye but i hate big feet monoeye like sazabi, dom, dwage, dijeh, rick dias, dreissen, marasai and the list goes on
21:14 speaking of the mono-eye did you notice while building that there is a little gear system in the head that makes the eye move mechanically when you turn the head? It’s a really need little detail
Hey! What do you mean by crocodile base set? and the tool holder is the bucasso rack, the link to it is in the description! Let me know if there's anything else you want to know!
@@ivegyattocomment Ah I see. I just added the link to it in the description. But its a basic base with clips combo. Works great for a such a simple set!
No need to apologize for getting frustrated, mate. We all have those moments in the hobby, and venting is important. No need to apologize for not liking a part in a kit, either. Anyone who gets mad at you for saying a certain step is pure pain is, to put too fine a point on it, a bit of a dick, innit?
You kinda worked against yourself a little by not following the order in which the leg armor and pipes were supposed to go on, but hey, live and learn. Read the instructions carefully it may save you a lot of pain.
I can tell that you're not good at following the directions in the manual. moving the beads onto the part that holds them onto the body is difficult. but the reason you had trouble with the legs is you didn't follow the steps of putting the parts on in the correct order. the power cable goes on first, top ball joint and then the bottom one, then you put the thigh armor on the leg which locks the top ball joint in place. if you had done that in the correct order you would have had a much easier time and wouldn't have had to force the ball joint into the socket.
Appreciate the callout hahahah. I am atrocious at following the instructions when building. I definitely made this build much harder than it needed to be. Thank you bro!
If this dude agitated you, try sticking to newer kits. Bandai's technology has come a long way in the last 10 years. Barbatos is largely considered the best mg, so you kind of set the bar high for yourself. Try the MG Dynames. I hear its near perfect.

This was my first kit and I built it recently. Those pieces that are “hose protectors” were my least favorite part of the build as well
@@t3Kn0DstRuct0 hands are hurting after those pieces bro
I just bought this and am watching this on my break at work and now im sweating the build bc of the beads. But upon reading up on it shouldnt you have moved the beads before cuttting them from the runner it even shows it on the side of the box..
Yeah I fumbled the bag on that one and made it way harder for myself. We live and we learn. Hope you crush your build bro
get waterbased panel wash if you want to do it, and not the enamel based ones since they have a tendency to break bare styrene plastic
Appreciate the advice!
the tubes what hesitate me from getting zaku MG 🤣🤣🤣
not only put into the round bar but if u want perfect u need to sand 1 by 1 🤣🤣
I'm telling you I did not want to sand one by one for this hahahaha. Did a basic sanding job and said thats good enough. It was a rough kit but extremely cool to see the finished product!
@@MaxBuilds007 in deed in goods but I’m the type if I start I want to force myself perfect 😂😂😂
I may sand all of them one by one if I get 1 🤣🤣🤣
Y I don’t think I get the RX 78-2 RG 2.0 …. It gonna have PB limit weapon set comes withe the morning star thing… n the chain is tiny n also nub everywhere 😰😰😰
Currently building the RG char mobile suit zaku, it’s such a pain but the outcome is so worth it
The build is a pain but the finished product is awesome!
Look into pour type gundam markers for panel lining if you ever buy more
Yes sir 🫡
Man looks good bud! i like it. I wont be building that but i like that you did and went through all that for me as a viewer lol. Love the custom writing.. Keep up the great work homie
Thanks so much homie! Looking forward to the next build video!
Yeah I'm thinking that If I ever get into a custom build, I'll try it out with a simpler easy build
jesus your editing is so good
Appreciate you homie! Definitely try to make each video interesting
@@MaxBuilds007 you caught my attention from the get go man i’ll be binging your content until the next vid homie
Refreshing af watching another normal dude who's getting into gunpla without painting their nails 😂
hahahahah appreciate it brother!
The pipes part also makes me insane
Join us brother. We also hate the tubes
great vid as always 🙏seeing you rage at the tubes made me think you would actually lose your mind if you built a kit like the rg zeta or sinanju
Hopefully not as many rage moments in the future. But i expect it to happen
This kit looks good. That's the best I've got for it. Posing is decent. However, it can't hold shit, those tube's literally gave me blisters and I have to get 3rd party pre-posed hands. It's a good kit if you get it purely for display
It’s sitting nicely on my shelf now. Awesome display piece but those tubes have forever destroyed my fingers
Hope you enjoyed the build. This kit was my first MG and I love it!
The overall finished build is now my favorite but that building process was rough on me. Glad you loved it as well!
If you had trouble with the piping, then you might want to steer clear of the RG version of this kit it's very similar but not a very sturdy. The Hg versions of this kit are really good though!
Honestly not sure if ill touch another zaku tube kit for a while hahahah
One the kits I'm working on atm. I bought a resin kit for it to make it look like it did in Gundam the Origin.
It's painful but a great time! Also, what's a resin kit?
@@MaxBuilds007 Its a kit that has parts to make a model kit look different. Most are made by 3rd party companies and are made of resin instead of plastic. One I bought makes Char Zaku look like it did in Gundam the Origin anime. It has more detail but the kit must be painted due the parts being different color.
@@Berndwilhelm-WH That sounds awesome. Hope you kill it! I didn't know that was something you could do
Yea you don’t have to add decals if you don’t want to, I do waterslide decals and tbh it’s the most tedious process of a build, I will build a kit and let it sit for two months til i get around to doing waterslides… also tamiya panel liner is better if you use it correctly, it’s cleaner and more visible lines over time.
Those beads destroyed both my hands and my mental state. One of the hardest things I've had to do
Love the vid you’re great exited for the next one
Appreciate you homie!
Awesome work with the zaku kit! Definitely a classic!
How did you break aerial's left leg 😮
It fell off my desk and the left leg joint broke in half 😮💨
Mine requested a blood sacrifice. Was worth the free dry brush xD
(obviously a joke I just managed to cut my finger)
I feel you bro. The build wrecked my fingers more than rock climbing does
YO THAT IS SICK, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BRO. Btw who is your favourite gundam?
After this build the zaku is now my favorite! Especially since aerials left leg is currently broken
This kit gave me blisters back when I built it😂
My hands are still recovering from this build
soaking the pipes in hot soapy water makes the whole process easier. d:
@@0Vuuk0 life hack. Great comment
*laughs in having built 26 Zaku II 2.0s*
Trust me, Chars S model is not the hardest one. The R-1A series, ESPECIALLY IN REAL GRADE, will make you curse so hard you accidentally awaken an ancient Finnish lake troll.
That’s insane bro. I could never build that many
The figure looks like a mix of Hell divers and 40K soldiers
The finished product looks awesome. Especially the color scheme of it
the beads are known to cause literal physical pain..
My fingers hated me
@@MaxBuilds007 some people said they used pliers for those. but I aint about that life, damned things gave me blisters though..
I love zaku, i have 3 mg, 1 rg and plethora of hg zaku including some gouf, i love monoeye but i hate big feet monoeye like sazabi, dom, dwage, dijeh, rick dias, dreissen, marasai and the list goes on
Zaku found its way into my favorites. Awesome build
Cool... *Now do the PG version*
21:14 speaking of the mono-eye did you notice while building that there is a little gear system in the head that makes the eye move mechanically when you turn the head? It’s a really need little detail
I did notice the gear system but I didn't realize it did that. That's awesome
It'd be neat if you maybe put links in the description of the supplies you use. And as someone who built the gouf 2.0 yeah the tubing sucks
Will keep this in mind for future videos! Thank you homie
Finally!
I may or may not have withheld sharing any info of the “pain” of cleaning all those beads but everyone needs a Zaku. See it as a rite of passage
Z'gok is much better, Z'gok is love, Z'gok is life.
Gonna have to get myself a Zgok in the future
Hello fellow gunpla builder
Hello!
My first Master Grade
Hopefully not your last
where did u get those crocodile base set and wooden tools holder?
Hey! What do you mean by crocodile base set? and the tool holder is the bucasso rack, the link to it is in the description! Let me know if there's anything else you want to know!
@@MaxBuilds007 i meant crocodile clips + the base you put it on for painting
@@ivegyattocomment Ah I see. I just added the link to it in the description. But its a basic base with clips combo. Works great for a such a simple set!
Now you gotta build a MG GM!
Will check it out!
Gotta stay true to the opinion! Appreciate that advice bro
i also prefer the markers better than the panel liners.
The markers were great! I see some uses for the panel liner but the markers were very easy
You kinda worked against yourself a little by not following the order in which the leg armor and pipes were supposed to go on, but hey, live and learn. Read the instructions carefully it may save you a lot of pain.
Sieg Zeon !!!! Sieg Zeon !!! :D
I thought the MG Zaku was great. The RG version made me never touch a real grade again, that was a horrible experience.
Couldn't imagine this build in a smaller form. Glad I didn't grab that one
Also, if you still want to dabble in mono eye, go with Sazabi.
@@d9_1056 Hopefully doing Sazabi soon! I want to pair it with the Nu
@@MaxBuilds007 that'd be hawt
Dang i watched the video late
It’s okay homie. Good to see you again!
Im currently building gundam 00 XN Raiser
nice
~Nice~
Someone tell bro about MG Psycho Zaku
I've seen images of it. They haunt me
@@MaxBuilds007 same here man, every joint has to be fitted in a fiddly plastic bag that sounds like a nightm- CONTENT, that sounds like content brother!
Try painting! 😊
Hopefully in the future on an easier build!
try gm sniper II next time
Will look into it sir!
Zaku.. 🥱 build the GM 2.0 😮
That's a cool build
now that you have the zaku char’s zaku to be in fact you definitely need a MG granddady to go along with it🔥🤍😎
Mega size granddaddy looks fun
