      The 330neo has generally had bad press, especially in this channel. But it will prove them wrong; the 330neo is an excellent choice for Trans Asian destinations. Less expensive than the 787, it has great operational and environmental qualifications. The Chinese airlines can't go wrong with this aircraft.

    Considering Boeing's current problems, it was in hindsight, a wise choice for Qantas to choose Airbus for Sunrise. remains to be seen what sort of restrictions will be enforced on SYD-LHR and whether it turns into the original Singapore 340-500 "business class only, no luggage, no clothes to save weight to make it to destination" or whether the plane truly has the range to fly with a full load. And how passengers will perceive the experience. 20 hours in coach with narrow seats and little seat pitch isn't something someone would look forwards to. Timing of departure/arrival will also matter. Saving 4 hours by skipping a stopover looks good on paper, but it it means you arrive at 04:00 in morning when trains to downtown don't yet work, the cheaper 1 stop might actually be more convenient with at 08:00 arrival.

      @nickolliver3021 I can say that, as a taller person, and having been on an A321 NEO earlier this year, I found the toilets and rear galley to be very small. So if passengers like to walk around on longer journeys to avoid DVT etc then this may not be as possible in future. I found the Max to be similar.
      The outbound leg for a 5 hour flight was on an A330 and that was much more comfortable. The A321 NEO was used on the return.
      Is it likely that manufacturers are focused on having passengers stay in seats more?

    At this rate, Airbus should consider making a carbon fibre reinforced plastic fuselage for the A330neo; and keep the rest the same. The wing is new. The fuselage size is what airlines want for that market. The range is incredible. They have learned enough from both the A220 and A350 airframes.

    • @edwardwilcox6606
      @edwardwilcox6606 3 місяці тому

      Why? A330Neo has modest investment in an already proven airframe which is light enough now to compete head-on with B787 & hopefully turn a decent profit in the not too distant future. One of it`s strengths is it`s purchase price for the airlines who are either unable or don`t want to spend sums on a more expensive composite build,. I`d suggest Neo has cleverly found it`s niche.

    • @mandandi
      @mandandi 3 місяці тому

      @edwardwilcox6606 Long term, it won't compete very well with the 787, I think. This is a lucrative spot, up from the single aisle market. Once printing parts becomes cheaper, why design a whole new replacement plane when incremental changes can do the trick on a tested airframe design?

    • @edwardwilcox6606
      @edwardwilcox6606 3 місяці тому

      @@mandandi There are a lot of A330Ceo`s that will need to be replaced & I think the Neo will pick-up decent orders over time. This prospective Chinese interest is confirmation for me in the attraction in a plane that really doesn`t owe AB much in investment & that will garner interest for airlines that don`t neccessarily want or need `the best`. A330Neo will be a winner for AB & turn a profit sooner than later.

  • @jfmezei
    @jfmezei 3 місяці тому

    Wen Boeing launched the 787 with huge promises, Airbus was told in no uncertain terms that an update to the 330 which it had proposed was nowhere near enough, so Airbus was sent to design the clean sheet 350 to replace the 330 so it could compete against the 787. (Remember that the original 8-across 787 was meant to replace the 767 and compete against the 330 with much better economy and all composite fuselage).
    Problem is that Airbus had already committed to the 330 military refueling so the 330 assembly line would continue. Boeing was same with 767 for military refueling but the 767 was no longer competitive for passenger so that line ended. So Airbus segmented the market between the more affordable shorter range 330 and the long range larger capacity 350.
    Since the 330 had already stolen the market from the 767, many airline alredy had 330s so no need to order new ones so nor surprising to see slow sales. The 330neo was a no brainer since Airbus had already done much work on it prior to moving to the 350. So it doesn't need many sales to be profitable and airlines have an affordable equivalent to the 787 for shorter range missions, especially when the 787 deliveries are unprodictable at this time.

    The A330neo can definitely use a boost. Possibly, a recent visit by Xi to the EU likely has a role as China is seeking to isolate the US as much as possible from its allies.
    There's been an ongoing economic gamesmanship between the US and China, and issues at Boeing has nothing to do with it contrary to the vlogger's comments.

    • @artrandy
      @artrandy 3 місяці тому

      What are you going to infer next, that a Chinese order for the A330neo is an act of aggression towards the US?
      Just maybe, the Chinese think the A330neo is a bargain. If its likely to be used by various airlines on networks within China, as other internet sources intimate, then the aircraft will be in competition with itself via several carriers, and so it doesn't have to be as fuel efficient as either the B787 or A350, because its not going to be in competition with them.
      Furthermore, this order might come with a Chinese production line (nobody knows yet), and the A330neo is more readily available that its competition. This is much better reasoning that your 'hard cheese', nationalistic attitude.
      And I await for you to take this whole stream down as you usually do, should you lose this argument😁😁. Pathetic...........

      Your Airbus passion is understood, even with all the maybes, but that's the whole point. I used the word 'possibly' because we're all speculating here.
      Your points would be valid, except for a number of key things:
      1. The Chinese aren't buying any aircraft because it's cheaper. Even their C919s have higher list prices than the superior Airbus and Boeing competitors. Politics.
      2. The A330 is not immune to supply chain issues, so no, it's not readily available as you say. Sure, delivery would be faster, but probably not timely.
      The A330 is popular in Asia, no doubt, but every move made by China is a calculated one, and it tends to be geopolitical.

      "The Chinese aren't buying any aircraft because its cheaper," you say. Maybe not when they're buying an aircraft made with their own government's money!! Really, you can do a lot better than this.
      Im not getting into a geopolitical argument about China here, its not the place, but just because they apparently don't want the B787, doesn't necessarily mean that there's skullduggery afoot.

      @@jl-7992 Correct. The China plant is basically to service local Chinese needs. And it is only assembly. I don't think they manufacture anything there, because Chinese rules imply you need to share the technology. Nevertheless, I am certain some of Airbus technology found its way to Comac. Also because to set up the assembly line, Airbus had to train Chinese engineers at Airbus in France. Once competent, you can expect some of them being recruited to work at Comac. It was the same with my company. We have proprietary technology, and to be able to operate in China, we had to divulge that technology. Duly copied and later, we found Chinese companies competing for work with tools based on our design. Obviously, the technology evolves, and the Chinese companies used older equipment, but at prices that made them very attractive. Unfortunately.
