The Equalizer technically came out WAY earlier than John Wick. This movie is based on a television series from the 1980s. Denzel is perfect for this role which is very different from John Wick.

So to give some context about this movie not doing well financially. After looking it up this movie made 192 million at the box office on a 55 million budget. The first John Wick made 86 million on a 22-30 million dollar budget, so looking at these numbers, they both did extremely well at the box office. Now the Wick series has more movies at the moment, equalizer will have the 3rd one coming out this year. So in my opinion both movies have done very well for themselves. Wick gets a little more talk because of the insane actions sequences where Equalizer has suspense and intrigue to back it up.

  • @DamienBlade

I think John Wick landed so well is because Keanu trained so hard to do his stunts, fight scenes, and gun handling. Denzel is the GOAT for sure, but he can't physically do what Keanu does. And the fact that they use long, uncut takes in John Wick really shows off the action.

    • @THEYLOVELEON

equalizer is based on a tv series from 1985, which they do a fan fare tie into a previous movie Denzel did in 2004 called Man on Fire. production also started before John Wick. because of Equalizer they were forced to use an insane advertisement budget on John Wick to over shadow it. once you learn about his wife in the second movie, the people he hangs around and why he's a "fixer" makes sense.

Everyone refuses to admit that Keanu is a terrible actor. Stunts, off the charts though. What's most prolific about this film is Robert's balance of his dark and light. He highlights that a warrior submits to his darkness, to do good which balances the scales. But it comes at a cost. When Teddy says "you mark me as a sentimental man Mr. McCall..." He was unassuming to everyone because he is actually a good man doing dark deeds against dark men. 🖖🏾

So if you watch the making of the movie, they have the fight coordinator say how his whole aim was to not waste movement or energy. He said Denzel isn't some young guy that's going to be jumping and throwing and falling. The aim of his scenes were minimalist in complexity with maximum effectiveness. I was just like, makes sense.

You guys are hyping denzel too much. Yes he can act. But he is rocking the most meh dad bod imaginable, and we're supposed to believe he can move like a one man army? We can easily tell he cant, because they cut 2 to 5 times for every single move he does. The dude is fat, slow, and clumsy. And because he's fat slow and clumsy, every action scene has a seizure-inducing amount of rapid fire cuts to hide how fat, slow, and clumsy he is.

The movie that Abel’s referring to is White House Down, starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Fox. Other being Olympus Has Fallen, which, if I’m not mistaken, they (the guys who made it) decided to not release it around the same month as WHD thus they had to release it at a later date in terms of not competing against it. With all that aside, I’m in love with the Filipino martial arts being demonstrated by Denzel, thanks to Dan Inosanto who also trained him for the other film, Book of Eli, another epic film I do recommend.
Although I would love to have you guys watch Olympus Has Fallen, you guys might find a familiar face, as Johnny Tran’s in there by the way. 😊

I think John Wick became/is more popular because it's more "ACTION!!!!!!!!!" The equalizer movies are more" action", with a shrug. Both Keanu and Denzel handle their roles well, but both characters are very different - yet very efficient at how they deal with their opponents. I feel Denzel's character is more cautious and methodical while Keanu's Wick rolls into every fight scene like a freight train, which I think is more of what action movies fans are looking for in an action flick. I personally love both and look forward to seeing the third equalizer in a few weeks (as well as tour reviews of 2 and 3)!

The first time I met and shook Tim’s hand, I thought he was a giant. He easily wins a 1v2 against most guys.

One thing I like much more about the equalizer isis John learned his skill set from the Romanian wrestling orphanage deal, no military , no explanation of how he is Kia the world best , seems much more fantastical but I do love it. The Equalizer we get these little Easter eggs through the series he started in the Army “rose fast” it’s mentioned he strives in everything to be the very best hw can, he fights with absolute conviction of his values , that after a long time in the very highest level of the military which being Army im assuming he went DELTA force and he followed the natural profession of US Special Operations ajd ened more money and fair pay for the skill, he the. Went into “the Agency “ at the very highest level , then a CA assassin avenging his friend and cked I up corruption. I did like in 2 hours he uses a SOF rifle tricked out eh uh he would , fibrin. All these gunner. Eventually don’t last . With ALL of these levels of training and experince in everything , it makes sense he does why hwy does. 8i I’ve yesterday story. Becasue wee are have a ton of US SOCOM legends absolute marching at hat turn 45 , 50get less active but could still destroy anyone if it came to it.

Hi guys, don't know if it's already been mentioned........
Equalizer was based on a TV series from the 1970's.
John Wick on the other hand was inspired by an incident when Marcus Lutrell (Lone Survivor) chased down the guys who shot and killed his dog DASY in the middle of the night.

@19:15....BRUH......I'm also not a fan of soup. My Japanese wife makes miso soup as a side dish ALL the time.....and yeah, it's just a bowl of yellow flavored water with a small amount of scrambled egg floating in it. It's not BAD...it's just....pointless to me, and simply makes extra dishes to wash. What a waste of energy.

People only know about the Denzel Washington movies and that garbage Queen Latifah show. But the OG TV show The Equalizer started it all back in the 80s with Sir Edward Woodward.

What are you talking about? The equalizer made far more money, 192.3 million, compared to John wich at 86 million. Also, the old Equalizer was a tv show back in 1985. For one of you being special forces, you are tore up from the floor up but I still love your channel.

Yup, and Jon Berethal (similar to Keanu but Jon is better in real life) is a BEAST at the Taran Tactical range. Dude busts his arse training! After I saw clips of him working hours on just reloads, I had a new respect for him.

I remember seeing both when they came out the same time. Problem with The Equalizer is that it drags after the first couple action scenes, and they never really were that cool just brutal. John Wick Part 1 was unexpected with less advertising so to see how cool the action was wasn't expected. Now everybody knows Wick for it's badass action sequences but the first one no one knew what it was.

I actually heard about honey being used to help take away inflammation and infection during the medieval. When people would get shot with arrows they would break the arrow and then pull it out and then cover the wound and honey and bandage it. Of course back then people died from basically the common cold but it gave you a decent chance to survive from the infection. Because a lot of the soldiers would tip their arrows in all kinds of nasty shit so whoever got shot may not die from the initial flesh wound but you would die of some pretty terrible illness caused by a nasty infection. So honey was used a lot back then. And I guess it is still good today so go to Kentucky fried chicken and stack up on some honey in your bag lol.

Funny enough, The Equalizer was actually pretty successful. It made more money than John Wick 1 did, and the 3rd movie is coming out this year. The 2nd one in the series is also really good. Not sure why the franchise isn't talked about more but it does seem to be gaining more popularity lately I've noticed. John Wick's action scenes and gunfu was pretty damn popular though. Still is really, and you can tell it inspired a lot of other movies down the line. The Equalizer, while good, didn't really revolutionize the action genre quite like John Wick did.

This movie was far better than John Wick in terms of action, acting, and story. The soundtrack was excellent, we got more than another "BADASS WHITE GUY" action movie trope. The fights made sense unlike JW, I can't wait to see the final chapter in the series. Ever since "Taken" these type of movies been on the rise, glad to see at least one depiction of a strong "black" male lead.

There's another connection with John Wick, actually. The song you hear around the 25:10 mark ('Before I Die Alone') is also on the John Wick 2 soundtrack, at the end, when Keanu runs from all the assassins in Central Park ;)

The Equalizer is a play on a TV show from the 70's. which was very similar to book/movie "man on fire", the original from he 60's, and the second one that Densel Washington did in the mid 2000's.

What's the unique concept of which you guys think one copied the other? If it's this general type of movie I would look at "Taken" with Liam Neeson as well, and this one's from 2008.

I would've liked to see a breakdown on the scene where Teddy comes to Robert's apartment. As Robert reveals to Teddy he doesn't believe he's a cop, Teddy comes back up the stairs and as he does this, Robert closes the distance and takes a tactically advantageous position. It's a pretty cool scene.

Equalizer 1 reminds me of Taken
They missed their chance to bring both films together. Liam and Denzel’s characters are both retired CIA operatives and in their first films, they take down sex rings
