    I'm pleased that you are hoarding soon to be discontinued tools. Maybe they will be used, or not, but they can always be a reference from our future. Somebody needs to be collecting these, and I'm glad it's you.

    The pouch way of storing various tools is great if you're a traveling mechanic. More easy to pack and keep all in one place.
    But sure, if you work at one place only such as a factory or some sort of plant, a stand or other solutions may be a better option.

    At this stage, unless KC are giving you, minimum, a 50% discount, you might want to consider naming the videos ‘German Tool Unboxing’

    Great review as usual. I work as a agri mechanic and most of my everyday tools are either German or French but I have to say German quality wins every time!!! Maybe a tool box tour in the near future?

    I'd love to see a follow up to the cannon plug pliers describing how well they work. I do a lot of work with those mil connectors and all the US-made slip joint cannon plug pliers I've tried are a hassle to use. Most of the time you're better off getting some gloves and breaking a sweat.

    In the german description of these pliers Knipex advertises them to use for:
    -oil filter change
    -plastic piping (PVC for example)
    -sink traps (here in Germany mostly made of chrome plated metal if the trap is exposed and not covered by a closet).
    -round coupling nuts
    -Cannon connectors
    That's a Cannon connector:
    de.farnell.com/itt-cannon/ms3106f20-27p/rundstecker-kabelmontage-14pol/dp/3905044
    So mostly for applications with sensitive surfaces which you don't want to damage. But here's the english website for the product:
    www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=art_detail&isMobile=&parentID=1368&groupID=2327&artID=34582
    The trap application is where the pliers got their name from, a trap is in german a "Siphon".

    Those Pliers Wrenches sting a bit even when they're on sale, but a pair of them in a few key sizes are lovely in certain applications -- especially if you don't want to mar up copper and brass..

    You mentioned the normal practice of hogging out the bulk of the end plates for the screwdriver holder... another reason for doing so (other than the weight saving you referred to) would be it would sit better on uneven surface with 4 points of contact instead of the two ends.
    On the same point, sometimes heavier is better for these things as they are less inclined to move about during use.
    I love your vidz, by the way.

    Cannon plugs are pretty much the standard in aviation, even in new planes. Those pliers are something I have eyed for a while, so I will be interested in seeing what you think of them.

      I worked on a system once that used ARINC 600 connectors, but that was sort of a special case because there were requirements for time it takes to swap out components. Those connectors are about 20-50X times the cost of the regular circular style, which is why they never really caught on I believe.

    My Gedore VDE screwdriver set has been going strong for years, still most are in good shape. Going to replace them soon tho cause i like the new handle style a lot better then the old ones, already have a PZ set of those. Always amazes me tho how many different handle styles Wiha has but these dont look like the classic line cause the handles are a lot more square as on the ones you have there it seems. I have a few old Wiha's with W-Germany and those are like really square, unconformable square.

      Just a small info. The fact that Gedore uses UNIOR (the Slovenian company in question) outsourced screwdrivers for its brand was known to me for some time but.... The thing is UNOR screwdrivers are kind of crappy, most people here agree with that. I am from Serbia, we used to be part of the former Yugoslavia and the same Slovenian factory was part of that state, back then the tools where of very good quality (based on peoples comments), now, not so much. Additionally I heard that UNIOR it self buys thing, including screwdrivers from an Italian company, cant remember the name. Maybe they have a special line of screwdrivers that are of higher quality, don't know. Their pliers do not have a good reputation here either.

    • @TheSir2005
      @TheSir2005 5 років тому

      @@miroslavm2503 Yeah far as i know Gedore screwdrivers are made by UNIOR but they are not like standard UNIOR screwdrivers. Gedore, at least the current 3C and VDE series that i own, are made to different DIN's and from different steel molybdenum-vanadium (Gedore) to chrome-vanadium (UNIOR) as UNIOR.
      I dont own UNIOR branded screwdrivers myself but thats according to the catalogs. I do have a few voltage testers from Gedore and those are like direct branded copies from UNIOR its seems and you can tell they are cheaply made. I bend the tip of the blade one of of those on first use on a simple plastic barrier strip.
      For me Gedore screwdrivers are the way to go cause i simply get better deals on those. I have Wera and Wiha sets as well but i dont notice any difference in quality compared to Gedore. No clue about UNIOR pliers tho, never had one. I really only use Knipex.

    I saw this video yesterday an thought I’d go to KC Tools and buy a set of the discontinued Torx drivers. Last night they were in stock, I should have ordered them, because this morning they were out of stock! Hmmm, you think this video had anything to do with the run on this set of discontinued torx drivers?

      @@GermanToolReviews I'd figure out how thin the wall would be. Those screws are pretty close to the edge and that might be the reason they didn't counterbore them. It might look worse with them flush and really close to the edge.

      @@cwell2112 it's A micro screwdriver holder, hardly going to be punished for weight? At least make it look right, I.e. precision screwdrivers should have a precision look to what's holding them. If not not keep them in the pouch or like wera have a beautiful holder for them as well.

    Wow yes please let us know how those Knipex work out on DTS38999 ( or whatever series you’re using ) connectors. Could really use that - sometimes endurance qual testing or a return from the field makes those connectors hard to torque off without accidentally unscrewing the backshell or something stupid. Didn’t know there were special pliers for that application either!

    • @GermanToolReviews
      @GermanToolReviews  5 років тому +1

      I will see if I can get the brand name of the ones that I've seen when I do a review on the Knipex ones. I remember they had more rubber-like pads on them and they were self-adjusting so you couldn't apply too much pressure.
