Interesting. You are correct!!! Misses will be few and thin but dead straight. One day I practiced Mike Austin swing basics. Next day shot -2. It was crazy. Don't think I had the proper hip movement he described nonetheless my score was all the proof I needed. It was almost too easy so I abandoned this method and subsequently could barely break 80. Back to this method again... 4 years later. Bingo. Scores dropping below 80. Really strange how this swing works. Pretty sure Mike was decades ahead of anyone else in his understanding of golf swing biomechanics.

That is good info for the upper body movement, but don't forget the knee bend to get the hips to move properly. Austin spent a great deal of time on that also.

Yes he did key area but the throw on the 45 makes the body reaction correctly up then down with flex that 2 min drill with no club teaches a lot more than any other.

The preset drill you mention is meant to be the finish of the wrist set. You don’t go to 45° AFTER you set your wrists, you simply turn from there. I’m a huge fan of keeping your hands in front of you, but if you actually move your hands on a true 45° angle, they will be well outside of the shoulders. It’s been proven that very few tour pros have an angle between their left arm and chest of more than 25° at the top. An easier, and dare I say more accurate, feel is to simply keep the trail upper arm parallel to, and in front OR on top of, the seam on the the trail side of the golfer’s shirt. Great feel, nonetheless, I just think using a hand path on a true 45° from address will have players get to the top with their hands way behind them.

If that was the case you wouldn't be able to swing off the 45 angle unfortunately that's not the case Mike Austin was doing internal rotation with the lead shoulder.

My shot isn’t too bad it was my first time playing 18 holes today at jimmy clay. But what can I do to make my long range better ? Practice more at the range?

Range work does not work training the mind is more important.

@scootamayne610 if you balance range and off range work seeing the vertical 45 line up body master the vardon grip then 👍 you'll fast track buddy 👍

It would be nice to see you hitting with your Austin Swing or playing a few holes no edits instead of putting down PGA pros. I’m a huge Austin Fan and prefer his later hand action vs his playing years hand action.

There a least 5 Or 6 full live rounds no edits and I us the flammer on range regularly I’m not putting down PGA pros or alike all I’m saying is there’s an easier WAY one that Mike Austin and a few others knew about and as usual that where put to the side by others because the world view wasn’t in the books. So the sheep just flooded the game when the truth got hidden golf became a mystery to most players.

It’s funny how the game only has two objectives, get the ball in the hole and in the least strokes possible. Such a simple game made ultra complicated by excessive instruction. the reality is most ppl are unwilling the unlearn what they know and would rather mix swing theories together further complicating their body movements. The only constant in golf is the individual. You can have the best swing out there as Austin did but still not win. If ppl spent less time mesmerized by what rare anomalies like Austin did and learned how to improve their strengths while managing their weaknesses out there on the course they would fast track themselves to their golf potential. Most ppl have little to no idea how much hand eye coordination is actually involved in a properly balanced swing. Most hit at the ball and never learn to swing the club head. There’s truly a surrender to physics if you actually desire to improve at ball striking. You can only achieve what you’re able to understand. Your whole swing philosophy and playing philosophy ultimately determines your overall results out there. You can only take from Austin what applies to you and your current physical abilities. Eventually most ppl learn that their swing truly has to be an individual creation. Some are long hitters and some are not amongst many other variables. But if Austin could have putt the damn ball we would have seen so many books on the man and probably an unmatched winnings stats that even too this day would seem as unreal as his 515 yard drive with old gear and ball!. But as the saying goes drive for show putt for Doe!

Interesting. Mike Austin kind of changed his method in his later years to not ulnar deviate. Are you referring to his original teachings?
