    In May of 2015 we moved back to New Hampshire, to where we are going to reclaim our 8.5 acres, and turn it into our modern homestead. We built the house the first summer. Now we invite you along in our journey of reclaiming the land, bringing livestock back on the land, gardening, permaculture, and all of our out of the box thinking DIY projects. We are excited to document the process of bringing the land back to its natural functioning beauty, using animals, and organic techniques to help heal it and thrive.

    I am using this method with my meaties to try and eliminate my creeping charlie in my pasture. I have been leaving them for 1 to 2 days until the area is stripped and poo packed. It seems like after the tractor is moved the grass is returning, but not the mint.

    Thank you for this video, I have baby chicks and my property is surrounded by this plant (invasive Japanese knotweed). Good to know! Now I'll have to harvest as much as I can and try to preserve it, I want to supplement as close to 100% feedstock but Im giving myself a few years to figure things out, your video saves me a year!

    It's Japanese knotwood and it's very nutritious for people too. When they are short like that you can cut them and use them as a supplement for rhubarb. Tons of recipes online. Eat the weeds.

    Maybe use a pig tractor (saw one in another video) since they like to root up the soil? Use the chickens before the pigs? Maybe follow on with a rabbit tractor? Or chickens then rabbits and last pigs. Keep the pigs you use for this purpose hungry so that they will create a scorched earth effect? They won't finish out as big as the ones you feed your mix but you didn't spend anything on them either after you build their tractor (except time moving and watering them).

      That is an AWESOME idea! IMy biggest fear is my field is super rocky. And I don't want all the rocks brought to the top. LOL

    • @holisticadvocate7882
      @holisticadvocate7882 7 років тому +1

      Guess it would be better to bust a snout than a plow?
      Any rocks the pigs root up would be great building material to use on other farm projects, like the foundation of a greenhouse?
      Your pigs probably wouldn't get all the rocks out any way, but after they made a sweep the land would support healthier quantities of grass you could use as feed if there were fewer rocks to stunt its growth. Anyway, cleaning up the land of rocks so crops can be grown gives the next generations something to work towards.
      Gotta have a reason to get up in the morning right?

      Yes they are awesome. They work for free and even give you eggs. The best part is the more fresh food they get the less feed cost and the better the eggs taste funny how it works that way

    After the chickens perform scorched earth.... Why don't you spread some clover seed. That way it will choke out that invasive weed

    That stuff reminds me of the "rubber vine" we get around here. Has heart shaped leaves and pretty pink-white/yellow flowers, but it grows scary fast and is so hard to get rid of.

    • @LumnahAcres
      @LumnahAcres  8 років тому

      yes it sounds like the same thing. It is called Japanese Knot weed and it is very invasive. But the chickens LOVE It at least. We will keep putting them on it until its gone. Subscribe to keep up to date on it. Did you get rid of yours

    • @LadyJennivieve
      @LadyJennivieve 8 років тому

      +Lumnah Acres we don't have chickens yet, but we kept on cutting it down and spraying it with roundup. It's under control.

    • @LadyJennivieve
      @LadyJennivieve 8 років тому +1

      +Lumnah Acres we've never managed to eradicate it unfortunately. Probably because we don't wait until it flowers until it gets sprayed. But it definitely stays under control unless we prune back the plants that are shading ours.

    This is Fallopia japonica or Japanese knotweed. Birds love it but it is an aggressive exotic plant.

    AL, which lay more eggs, your Kakai Campbell ducks or your Barred Rock Chickens? Have you thought of scattering a small amount of alfalfa or clover seeds onto the almost bare ground? The legumes may block out the water bamboo.

    looks like Japanese knotweed. Dangerous around buildings as the roots Do tend to break foundations of buildings. Round up doesn't actually do anything to Japanese knotweed. Specialists are called to kill these weeds. I advise u to remove all flowers every year.

    • @LumnahAcres
      @LumnahAcres  8 років тому +1
