Just found out we have endangered bats living in roof rafters- working w a F and G person to catch the bats and move them to a large bat house on site. But this was so informative. Thank you. I’ve always loved bats- and especially this year, I want to help them.

21:30 some terrible craftsmanship going on there :) BUT, so glad that there is such a sponsored project for installing summer bat habitats/colony housing. Very important presentation, I'm troubled that it's received only 870 views after being up for a year... I hope there is more interest so that property and homeowners can help.

The F and G person said the bats will have their pups soon- I assume he will catch them after that? Or install the out only traps then? What is the best time of year in PA to move them?

I live in Philadelphia and every summer for about 7 years now I hang out in parks close to where I live and other parts of Fairmount Park which is huge. My friends and I would talk and hang out for hours watching the bats fly around eating bite. In 2010 and 2012 I didn't see as many bats but this years I've been seeing a lot of them flying around. I was watching them tonight fly around as the sky got darker and other people 50-100 yards away watched an outdoor movie screen set up. I've always been interested in bats and have always thought they are so amazing. I would have friend freak out a little and girls would say they might fly into me or in my hair. I always say you have a better chance of walking into a tree than a bat flying into you. They can see you perfectly flying around using there sonar as where we are almost blind in the dark. Yea if your running being crazy you might run into one but just walking they aren't gonna hit you. They just fly around you to eat more bugs.

I hope we get a handle on this and the bat population start making a good recovery. It would be an extremely sad sight to not see any bats or even only a few bats flying around at dusk and at night. I could watch bats fly around for hours. Don't know exactly why I've always been so interested in them but I have. Seeing them flying around the way they do is like watching a show. Like a bat circus hahahaha

lock off the newly developed and cleaned and heated and treated hibernation caves and maybe offer a nearby exterior feeding source heated area also...they really need to know that where they go to hibernate that it is a consistent environ and undisturbable and if in winter they need food because of infestation that it is nearby and in winter I guess you could set that where its heated and staying in that area so that could help also...

I'm extra sad that this is 9 years ago. And who knows how related/ unrelated the cost of eggs and food has gone up due to this increase in pesticides.

I live in Charlottesville VA and have not seen the little brown bat (Myotis) for 8 years. I can get a bat box at Southern States. Do you have a contact in Morgantown WV? I visit there often.
