Superbe mise en relief du souffle, du corps, de la voix et de la sensualité faite art. Le regard de Mathieu est un prisme à la lame de rasoir qui sculpte les multiples facettes de l'artiste à la manière d'un diamantaire : pour mieux la faire briller.
Et c'est la joie de travailler la voix et le chant, par le corps, le ventre, la tête. Et j'aime...

J’adore Barbara. J’aime beaucoup Matthieu Amalric sa curiosité et je comprends qu’il ait craqué pour une femme aussi sublime. Quel bel acte d’amour que ce film sur cette femme sublime. Merci Matthieu, on l’aime aussi Barbara.

Comment l'expression humaine s’étaye sur le geste? On y voit comment elle va chercher sa voix au plus profond de son Etre en s'appuyant sur une gestuelle rythmique tour à tour ample ou discrète.
Fascinant, troublant, passionnant, presque gênant parfois tant on approche le mystère intime de la chanteuse...on comprend ce qu'"incarné" veut dire... A "regarder-Ecouter-sentir" avec tout le corps, je veux dire avec tout l'être. Merci à Mathieu Amalric d'avoir su saisir l'essence de l'art au delà des mots...et puis se faire accompagner par Sir Simon Rattle, excusez du peu!

It's an exercise given by Neil Semer, one of her teachers. I study with him and have participated in his summer masterclass the past two years. The exercise is meant to focus on his main principle of how to have the most optimal position of the tongue, lips, jaw etc. in order to have the most open throat possible and achieve the chiaroscuro quality.
The little grunts she does are also something that he asks in order to reinforce the deep (chest) connection.
If you've never heard of him/studied with him, do it!!! He's absolutely fantastic and being from New York doesn't take any bullshit. He's very conscious of the emotional connection to singing, including obstacles/prejudices that keep people from reaching their full potential. His teaching is a really fascinating balance between extreme work on technique and yourself as a singer.
Wow! Thank you for yout thoughtful answer! The first time I watched this video I was quite intrigued by what she was doing, and since I'm not a singer, I had no idea. To tell the truth, even knowing that it was a warm up, I thought it was some kind of theatrical performance made for the video hahaha

I was at a NATS workshop with Neil Semer in Los Angeles about 10 years ago. It was absolutely phenomenal. I still have my "Words of Wisdom from Neil Semer" document that I refer to in my teaching.

Ce documentaire est une vrai merveille, il montre plus avec quelques images qu'une explication avec des mots. J'admire Matthieu Amalric pour ça. Et merci mille fois Anna Trombetta pour nous éclaircir sur la nature de l'exercice, c'est passionnant.

Quand je vois et entends Barbara Hannigan, les larmes me viennent spontanément. C'est tellement beau ce que fait cette merveilleuse artiste qu'il n'y a rien à dire sinon de se laisser entraîner dans le flot puissant de son art !
