Toyota’s Yaris 2018 is entering into the space dominated by stalwarts like Honda segment defining City 2018, Hyundai’s stylish Verna and Maruti Suzuki’s spacious and sensible Ciaz.
On our first drive of the Yaris we found that this Toyota is packing in something extra to take on the competition. The features list of the Toyota Yaris includes many segment firsts, like a roof mounted AC with ambient lighting, 7 airbags as standard, front parking sensors and a 60:40 split rear seat for improved practicality. It also lays heavy impetus on the experience of luxury by employing premium trim and upholstery, while pairing these elements with finer touches like heat and noise insulating glass.
Toyota’s are about reliability and dependability, and for that alone some people will gravitate towards the Yaris. This will play a major role in the success of the Yaris, since the Yaris sedan is a petrol only car. There are no plans to launch a Yaris diesel, with the dwindling demand for diesel cited as the reason by Toyota.
The safety equipment levels on the Yaris fortify this faith further. The Yaris deserves to be looked at seriously by midsize sedan buyers as it makes for a calm commuter and capable all rounder.
However, if Toyota price the Yaris neck and neck with the Honda City, between 9 and 14 lakhs, the Yaris would prove to be the luxury pick in the segment that despite its shortcomings would stand out as the luxury pick of the segment.

If Safety is a main norm for the buyer, then this car highly recommended. 7 airbags(in all variants) and front parking sensor is a good initiative. Hope this will get 5 star rating in NCAP and hats off to Toyota for not compromising on safety.
If I'm in a car, the first thing i want is - silence and smoothness followed by safety, great music, greater Air cooling and lastly the mileage. Yaris incredibly ticks all the boxes.
Big fan of yours, Kartikeya! Others only talk about the usual stuff, ride, handling bla bla and that’s it, give their verdict. But you get into the finest, minutest details of anything you review which lets us know what that product has to offer over the competition, where it lacks, which can be so important and be a deal maker or breaker when it comes to buying decision. Nobody comes close to being so comprehensive!
Any advice on buying 33k km driven 2018 yaris g manual in 2023? It's literally the best I can find now. Presently driving 1.6L ford fiesta classic 2012. Love sedans.

I prefer to push back the driver seat all the way back so that my left leg is relaxed and fully stretched while driving automatic ... could you please tell me if driver seat is pushed back all the way , then 1) back seat passenger will have good leg room , 2 ) driver legs will be fully stretched.... you are the correct person to tell as you are 6'.... appreciate your answer...

as always awesome review from Karthik, but for a not so awesome car :( . Karthik- what would you suggest ? Vento /city/Verna for daily drives to office under 10 km(one side) in city and occasional long drives. i had a global fiesta so i would need something similar :)
Very informative detailed video..piece of ur advise.. Which one you would recommend between.. Verna sx auto vs yaris vx cvt.. Overall and by driving experience.. I now drive a polo 1.6 and grand I 10..and now looking for sedan
If it's the driving dynamics you are looking for, then go for the Verna. Yaris would be our pick if you spend most of your time driven around.

Finally it launched, it took many years but it came at last. I'd go Toyota any day cause I'm a guy that keeps cars forever that made me a die hard Toyota fan. Yaris's arm rest is the most annoying part, boot size 475 liters is just ok gets the job done , but the pros like cruise control which I need, 7 airbags which is awesome, I'll buy the Yaris not only because I'm a fanboy but also the long term reliability. I personally never used android auto or Apple car play so I don't really care but may ppl do.

Yes we Indians are obsessed with peppy engines of Honda & Hyundai. That is why VW did not work at first place. Secondly just imagine India is so obsessed that VX variant with 2 airbags, no BA, proper disc brakes. Give this car to a teen and he is dead.

You are right - tyres could've been 16". These are so tiny. Premium prices to the City with that on offer, good luck Toyota. Should a car command a higher price just for the feature list? I think they've missed the bus with the rear seating barring the smooth suspension as you described and quiet cabin. 2 features most sedans miss but not a steal for everyone.

If the Maintenance is similar to the Etios I think its a good buy. But Yeah!! They need to upgrade to market offerings to be a best seller. Both Toyota & Honda are amazing cars..

Rapid has MPI engine for petrol which is not best compared to City iVTEC MT or Vento TSI AT.
For Diesel, Rapid TDI DSG is the best

That 1.5L engine is one of the most reliable engine Toyota has ever made
I would be disappointed if Toyota prices it slightly premium than City. Though it seems a quality product , its not easy to get room where City, Verna and Ciaz are already established.

That would be great pricing if Toyota wants to make some space for Yaris. I think the VX variant would be 1.5-2 lakh more expensive as it gets only CVT , no manual option and also equipped with first of its segment feature such as VSC,TPMS ,Hill assist, front parking sensors.

If price more than city it's simply not worth...but if price in Verna bracket than its a btr bet...
Not sure why Toyota missed Apple, Android support and also Sunroof.
Srinivasan Parthasarathy Toyota say they don’t offer a sunroof because they do not want to encourage unsafe behaviour - people sticking their heads out while the car is being driven. As for the AA and CP - their argument is that by offering miracast and mirrorlink people can still connect their phones.
