"If ED was able to create an AI that could fight like a person for real, I think we'd all be in very big trouble."
hell, if they could do that they would get a defense contract.
The Battle Simulator (TBS) was EDs prodigy military defense contract with the US ANG to train pilots on the A10C. Don't know if its still in active development though.
the AI looks very fluid and confident in it's decision making
very exciting!
Dear GS, thank you for your very balanced and detailed analysis. Ilya Matt and all the team are delighted with this step up in realism and thank you for your support in communicating it so well to our growing and faithful community. Kind regards Nick
It’s my pleasure Nick I love highlighting ED’s leaps forward when it comes to this sim we all love so much. Thanks for all you guys are doing over there, it doesn’t go unnoticed.
would be interesting to try training a deep learning model on DCS dogfight data. No idea how you'd set it up in terms of parameters and hyperparameters but it's definitely possible
Check out “Alpha Dog Fight Trials” DARPA is hosting open competitions just like this.
is that data easy to get? i tried looking for some a while ago but didn’t find anything useful
This is fantastic! Really glad ED lets you preview this stuff.
I have no idea how you'd even program something as complex as this, yet they did it...I'm impressed.
Programming it is one difficulty, keeping it relatively lightweight on the computing power is another entirely different challenge.
Not only that, you have to utilize quaternions in ungodly ways to analyze 3d space
I would have thought it'd be pretty straightforward. If opponent is at a certain position, doing certain thing, use certain manoeuvre.
Thank you for the on screen listing of the various aircrafts preferred type of fights. A simple screen capture and boom, you have a printable listing for future study. I know a lot of people have asked for it in the past, and it's very helpful.
Indeed, I wanted to ask it as well but never did (I'm lazy). It would also be hyper cool if GS could do a little "Best practices" video for each aircraft, like minimum speed to keep, DOs and DON'Ts, etc.
Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th, 2022.
In a panic, they try to pull the plug. Sarah Connor : Skynet fights back.
I'm excited about these AI changes because they'll finally make my Liberation campaign missions interesting again. Back then, it was always a shitshow whenever AI interact with each other. Now at least there's a bit more sense of self preservation in their tiny little heads.
This is a huge thing tbh, this will help a lot of new players coming into DCS to help with BFM so, yay!
Props to ED for these developments!
This is actually incredible. I've never seen an AI do such skilled things in any game I've played. I think this is the best AI ever
Man the insane number of variables and possible set-ups and outcomes is insane I would love to see the code running this.
Finally a better AI, been waiting years for this. Hope it comes with the next update
Thank GOD this is being worked on, it can't come quickly enough.
Cool, at 5:18 this may be the first time I've seen UA-cam AI caption "rate fight" correctly. Two wins for AI today.
wow that seem super cool! I might actually start training my (weak) dogfighting skills with the AI with this available.
Hey thanks for the Info!! I am just starting out with DCS I hope to learn this as fast as I can. I am studying your channel every day THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS!
It is amazing seeing your skills. I've been playing CombatFS3 for years and suck so badly at it. The AI in that is even too hard for me. I guess I can only learn. Thank you for the great content.
There's a really good book about air combat concepts, Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering by Robert L Shaw that has very good info and diagrams that can help you with the concepts and tactics if you're interested.
Very exciting, thank you for the preview 👍.
I like how the kneeboard stays on through the ejection
At least you can read something as you're going down slowly to the ground.
i think that we now got a solid step towards a dynamic campaign
This looks so good jesus christ, and you presented it amazingly GS mega work!
That was a really good fight the AI put up! I'm screwed :p
Huuuge improvment
2:38 that shock in your voice
This is the best news in a long time. Thx for the fights!
Good Morning Sir, Love your show and I want to get a DCS. I looked up the best simulators and some are over 12 thousand dollars. I was hoping to do it for 3 thousand. The chair for me is a must. I think it might be possible to pay a expert like you to teach me some of these things. But really wonderful show and very interesting. I need to learn the NOMENCLATURE of the whole system.
A view of the tacview would be great
Absolutely top class review again. You never disappoint, GS. Now let's see if this will have an impact on Jester and his constant will to bail on you.
Cool, Ace level will make for more interesting scenarios of stuff like two F-15s vs X# of OpFor
Now wait till ED becomes a defense contractor for those fancy wingman AI things
I have thought of that before. Players are your beta testers real time. And with government contract they could be given real statistics for planes. It benefits the both the creators of dcs and any government that would use this tech. I wouldn't be surprised if they have already done this tho. It's cool shit.a third benefit goes to the users of dcs.
The bvr update was amazing. Can't wait for this one.
Every time you say "I've seen players who don't dogfight this well" I feel called out
had a good laugh at this one, the good news is that everyone starts at that same point.
This is a phenomenal development. I wonder what the future holds, is there a possibility for specific tactics, skill level, personal behavior (fear, aggression) and doctrinal philosophies of certain aggressors in a myriad of time periods?
Soon, fighting an AI will be more challenging than a real person
Speaking of playing simulators, I'd like to see you play some of the vintage MicroProse Sims. I've been playing F-117A Stealth Fighter 2.0 for better than 20 years, and would like to see what you think of it
This is awesome! I’m actually really interested in creating more missions that include dogfights because now the F16 won’t just use its 1:1 power and afterburn it straight up when losing a fight 😂😂😂
Basically shot himself down hahaha.... these changes look great! Thanks for covering this.
This is awesome, can't wait to try it out
With going on a half million followers, you are totally aware how we value your opinions.
Yeah this seems like a drastic improvement.
This will be like playing against a chess computer that wins everytime XD
Do you have a video on how to get started on DCS? What you need, how to learn, etc.
I hope that by the time I start playing DCS there will be a whole other level of AI implemented.
Granny level.
You still make it look easy I mean if you never tried to be a real pilot that’s a shame you should be a combat drone pilot
does the ai account for bandit aircraft when choosing what type of fight it wants force or does it instead just go off its own aircraft’s performance?
Amusing updates that will make enemies more challenging to many players. I suggestively challenge you to do the first Gripen vs Su-57 Felon to see which jet is smarter in terms of avionics and maneuvers. Remember GS, it's not the plane, it's the pilot sometimes. Count me as one of your biggest fans. Blue Skies!
wait, is the F14 not usually rather a 2 circle fighter? Slow and low on the deck? sure it depends on the enemy.
Good hit he just took my tail off 😂😂
This is awesome! Thanks for the share!
An awesome video would be an F22 video at night.
This will be good
“There’s players out there who don’t dogfight this well” I feel attacked
Excellent news, thanks!
It's nice watching stuff I don't understand
Looking good
Is there any word on if this will work with Warbirds?
Does this mean the Mig-15 is finally fixed and won’t just do endless loops without losing airspeed?
Good show GS, I hope with my new rig and hardware I will soon be flying in your servers! Good info and feedback! Soon maybe UAV'S might be in the DCS world of dogfighting if one gets that far...technology has advanced immensilly and so has DCS respectively! Adapt or die ... lol
If you didnt tell me this was AI, i could have thought this was a manned dogfight with someone who has above average skills
This was awesome!
scary, well done 👏
Fascinating
All because of you guys with the skills teach the machine to make the others living in the hell. 😅
It always made me grumpy when the AI in a Mig 15 or 21 has unlimited energy and can go right from trying to rate me and be very slow, then pull up and climb like he just attatched a saturn rocket to his ass. Or doing a complete 180 degree reversal neatly instantly, which I have seen in Tacview. Its the physics defying stuff that I hope is fixed.
I should clean up my tv screen. I keep mistaking dirt spot for a bandit.
In your final list of what aircraft favours one circle and two circle was a MiG-31. Should a MiG-31 even dogfight lol
I just woke up, and now I have a reason to stay awake💪
0:45 are those control surfaces ok? :)
GS, is there any info you know/can share about updates to ground AI? As it is helos are frustrating af because of well know problems with AI such as ridiculous accuracy and firing through trees. Even if they fixed those two things it would make a big difference.
Did I see a sneaky little sundog there at 7:13??
Will it work on WW2 planes too?
YES
WoW!
What is the difference between the two programs, more clear,? visually or software ?ect, ect.
Some day I wish to be good enough to beat the old ace level AI. Seriously, I suck. I need to find a "BFM for noobs" series.
LCH Tejas is available in simulation is it available so make video on that broo highly recommend love from India brother
Seems like the new AI is going to dunk a lot of players...
Does this AI know how to disrespect yet if not I’m sure you will teach it too Lol, pretty awesome and spooky great video GS.
Can you compare fa50 with let’s say mig29?
F-22 VS Nine North Korean MIG-29's BVR
F-22 VS F-15STOL/MTD & SU-30MKI at same time guns only Dogfight
Ju87 Stuka VS Mosquito
Ju87 Stuka VS P-38
Ju87 Stuka VS F-82
Ju87 Stuka VS ME262
All one Vid like Bandit Unknown! Please use that 37mm Cannon!🙏
DCS Wars Episode III
Jester's Revenge
ED has Mihaly from Ace Combat 7 stuck in a simulator and copying his moves
Skynet is smiling.
Do you think it's safe to say that when you can consistently beat the new AI in a dogfight, that's the right time to progress to multiplayer fights? To put into other words - if you can't consistently beat the new AI on ace, you're not ready to take on real players?
yes, I would agree with that statement, in fact that was my progression as well when I was learning.
Never reverse unless reversal criteria applies.
Are there any 117 nighthawk mods?
Peak Excitement!
Awsome video
suddenly skynet!
"New ACE level AI" - and here I am, still getting shot down by the easiest AI. :D :D
how do you know when a specific fighter is a one circle or a two circle fighter? or something you have have to boom and zoom with?
Roll rate and good turn performance at low speed usually indicate a one circle/turn fighter, whereas faster aircraft generally perform better in two circle or are good for boom and zoom. Boom and zoom is not really meaningful in modern contexts though, that's more of a WWII thing.
pretty sure 2 circle means that they are turning in the same direction (like one following another) and 1 circle is each of them turning in the opposite way
generally two circle fighters have really good turn rate and one circle fighters have a really tight turn radius. Good turn radius often relates to good slow speed handling and a better ability to turn well at low speed. Planes with lots of lift and lower wing loading should be better at this.
Turn rate is helped by low drag, high thrust, and high max G.
It really comes down to knowing your airplanes capabilities, as well as the other guys capabilities.
low wing load/thrust to weight = 1 circle, high wing load/thrust to weight = 2 circle, but must be compared to enemy to decide what to use
Day 13 of asking for a YF-12 video
Maybe the AI is just absorbing your flight characteristics, as a base level and it goes on from there constantly accumulating information to build a flight response?? WOW I was right about the AI learning and accumulating information.

Big thank you to ED for allowing me to show off this new update that's in the pipeline can't wait for you guys to get it and try it out. Thanks for watching guys, Much Love.

Ju87 Stuka VS Mosquito
Ju87 Stuka VS P-38

All one Vid like Bandit Unknown lol you can still call it that ;)
Please use 37mm Cannons!🙏
The UA-cam compression looks fine for you’re videos tbh. Love the quality of your Videos, it’s so clear 4K 😭💪🏼
Thank you for the graphic so following what you're looking at is made visible. It really helps 👍
