As an American, I obviously loved this one. Thanks! It's exciting to finally have such a good crop of young Americans getting results at the highest level. Matteo's first win is coming.
Really enjoyed this! Id also like you to share a beer with someone from the women's peloton to talk about difference/similarities in life as a pro. Maybe someone like Ashleigh Moolman Pasio. Another interesting one would be Biniam Girmay to talk about cycling in Africa, the emergence of Eritrea as a cycling nation and how it is to become a pro from Africa.
Fast forward one year and wow what an amazing season Matteo Jorgenson is having. 2024 Paris-Nice winner and an impressive last stage attack on Roglic's leader jersey at the Dauphiné, settling for second place overall! Should be a super domestique in 2024 TdF and perhaps take home a stage win.
I remember I read an article about him getting on ag2r dev team, but I agree that attack was his breakout moment I remember it was a side helicopter shot and you see this tall skinny pale guy launching himself off the front
This is such a great format. I love to get to know a lot of riders better. I have one improvment suggestion. I would prefer to tilt the camera angle down a little, so we can see more of you guys and also you gestures with the hands. You could put the pictures (which I really love and appreciate) e.g. on the lower half. At the moment it's like 40% you guys and 60% the view. Me personally would go for around 80% or even more of you guys. Keep up the great and interesting content :D
Hey Harry! The focusing seems to be snapping between you two but there's a simple workaround for that. Just put the camera in manual mode and at a higher f-stop (say f8 or f11) and then just prefocus it (manually) with one of you sitting down before you start recording. Et voila, no focus snapping during the video! As others recommended I'd tilt the camera slightly down, following the rule of thirds is also a really easy way to frame. Simply select a 3x3 grid in your camera, have the first line from the top be at +- eyelevel and it's always gonna look good. You can also use the vertical lines to position yourself and your subject in the frame. Another tip is that perhaps you might want to have your subject take up more space than you do, in order to focus more on the interviewee rather than the interviewer. The audio is great! I thoroughly enjoyed this video though, great content and I'm very excited to see more of this!
Just found your channel, good stuff. Watching through everything! Matteo's insights into the ins and outs of pro cycling are really interesting, thanks for putting it together
great interview man! it'd be super interesting to have some of the veteran racers' (the Gilberts, etc) insights, or some of the other team staff members who are former pros.
Ishsss, what a moment for Matteo, hahaha. What a nice channel Harry, please keep it up!!! If you get a chance (and authorization from Lotto-Soudal Team), please deliver a video about your training program. Hard training vrs recovery sessions, gym days, and so on. I really would like to know how pro-cyclists distribute the training sessions. Thanks in advance.
Love this! Not enough content creators inside of the peloton. Tietema gets thousands of views on a dutch only channel while, no disrespect, not being an elite pro. You venturing in that space might set a trend. Hope it pays out for you, financially or otherwise.
Great video - even more interesting now that Matteo has moved from Movistar to Visma Lease-a-Bike. With the support of Visma LAB, Matteo in 2024 has developed so much. Visma LAB's gain is Movistar's loss methinks.
Loved it. Great questions and interview style. I’m curious about the learning French, how long did it take? Like how many hours in class, how many hours at home, other tips? I’m looking to learn for my girlfriend, and we live in Australia, so won’t be around any native speakers - besides her. Cheers
You produced the interview in Isola 2000, right? Did you rent an house for the 7 days training camp? The region is perfect as some of the best cols are very close.
Great interview and really enjoying the rest of your videos also. What does "flick" mean? Cutting off another rider? Getting your elbows out to get into a gap?
this conversation feels so candid, really good content. Do you do strength training and flexibility routine Sweeny? Do you mind sharing it with the folks?
Love the content. Hope this comment gets buried, or delete it if possible. Couple quick tips on interview style vids. 1. When the interviewee is speaking try not to add "fillers" Ie, no "yeah". If you feel like you need to add reassurance, just nod (this will also be really helpful down the track if you need clean sound bites). 2. When the person is speaking, stay present, don't refer to your notes for the follow up. if you're not at the point of questions on the fly then wait till they're finished, then look at your cheat sheet, then ask the follow up. Which leads me to; 3. Once the interview's finished, grab some quick cut-away shots, Ie record some B roll of yourself nodding, or the scenery, stills or graphics or whatever you like. You can edit this in to truncate any bits you don't like, (eg, you looking at your notes). The old school way of doing it was to shoot the persons hands, it's weird, but look at any traditional interviews and there's a metric ton of hand shots. Alternatively, which is the style of most content creators now, is to "jump cut" this is just a hard cut of sections you don't like, there's no continuity, and frankly audiences have gotten used to it where they don't even notice anymore. I hope this helps. Love what you're doing and love following your career.
I would love to know two things: 1) When did you realize you possessed the physical abilities to potentially be a pro cyclist? 2) How did you train when you were younger in order to prepare yourself for going down this path?
13:58 I feel like race spectators are a lot more appropriate with sensitive issues. I feel like in America your picture would have been posted on Perez Hilton. I remember when Anne Hathaway had a sensitive moment getting out of a car. Not just the paps were taking photos - so were spectators.
it's so weird to me that cycling at the pro level is kinda "dead" in the states....cycling still feels fairly popular here but I guess I've never been to Europe to really compare
My apologies for the focusing issue - I'll have it fixed for next time
Let me know who you want to see next!
No problem, it was a great video!
Glad it didn’t ruin it!
Jay vine for sure

Glad you enjoyed it, looking forward to bringing some more new faces to you all (and a few beers)
The sun exposure question was hilarious. Peak reddit.
Congrats to Matteo for winning his first pro race today!
Great interview and a chilled atmosphere. Hope there are more to come!
Absolutely will be 👌
First saw matteo when he attacked the great orme tour of Britain stage, fantastic rider and a great guy! Thanks for the vid can’t wait for more

Love getting to know the Americans and Aussies in the peloton so any of them next would be awesome
I know a few Aussie with some good stories for everyone 👌

Ginger sun tips haha
Sun sleeves for sure. Think of the skin a lot in your 20's if you plan to enjoy your 40's for sure.
Great mix of anecdotes, insights, experiences and humour. I've decided that from now on if Phil doesn't care about something then neither do I 🤣
Hahaha great way to go about life 😂

Flick is just slang for when you screw someone over a bit to help yourself

Get Valverde on. He is quiet but his insights are incredible.
How does he find the motivation to keep going at that level for decades?

sick to see world tour cyclists that aren't dressed in the standard euro sports guy fits :0
Absolutely!
How big of role do genetics play in cycling?
Hard to say and I’m probably not the person to ask! 😉
@@Harry-Sweeny You’re a pro so you probably have favorable genetics
Well, it's like asking if you gotta be tall to play in the NBA.
Yes: (mostly) but that's just meeting the minimum requirements
