Thanks Luke for your candid review of your evening session. Sometimes the complexity of what "we do" is lost on those who are not in the hobby and they never realize how hard and frustrating this hobby can be (at times).
Thank you so much!! - it was fun to make a little video like this and just share what was going on :-D Clear skies!
Nice to see you out imaging under the stars like the videos of old. Lovely image at the end there too.
Thanks so much Logan my friend, I hope you've been well!! 👍👍
Beautiful work 🎉loved!!!!
Thanks so much mate!!! :-D clear skies!!
It's interesting to see how many people also miss your porch captures. I think it's because it more closely matches what we are able to do at home. Thanks.
A wonderful image Luke and thank you for sharing it with us. Clear skies!
Clear skies my friend! :-D
Hey mate always good to be out under those stars. Nice looking job pal.
Thanks so much Ollie mate!! 👍
So good to see you get to test this gear. As for the ASIAIR this transformed Astrophotography for me. I hate that it is a closed system but when it all comes together it just works!
Thanks mate!! The asiair really is tremendous, love it!
Great video once again Luke, the final image looks amazing. There is something to be said about getting outside and seeing the stars with your own eyes, I certainly intend to start doing more of this.
Thank you so much Pete my friend! - it really was a breath of fresh air to be out again, even just in the garden! :-) can't wait for this weather to settle a bit now, hopefully start some juicier projects!
Thanks for the little reminder that sometimes it's nice to just have an auxiliary rig that just works without all the fuss. Allows you to recoup and put your mind at ease to tackle the more complicated but finicky equipment 🙂 Happy you had some clear skies and beautiful image!
Very true Dave my friend!! - when everything else was going wrong with the other rigs it was nice to just have something there working away quietly without fuss, it kinda took the pressure off a bit otherwise I'd really have felt like I wasted the night!
Wonderful video, Luke! And very impressive final image coming from an OSC!
Thanks so much mate!! :-D
Beautiful result!
Thank you! 😊
lovely video Luke. Simple for me to understand. ☺️
Great to hear you enjoyed it my friend!! Cheers!
couldn’t agree more luke, there’s so many things we can keep on adding to our setups to get marginal improvements from, but it’s so easy to forget how important simplicity can be. i think that’s one of the reasons i’ve still stuck with DSLRs and standalone autoguiders for so long- it’s simple to troubleshoot and it makes me feel more connected to what i’m shooting. just like how i want to upgrade my mount to a harmonic drive but my main gripe is keeping me back- none of them have an optical polar scope! i just really resist needing a laptop in the field i think, as do i resist getting stuck in the ZWO ecosystem. but, i just got hired for maybe the best job i could hope for for me right now, at my local telescope store! it’s just run by two guys who took over the business and have been growing it, and they’ve gotten to the point where they need an extra hand managing everything :) so maybe i will have to dip my toes into the more modern mounts and cameras after all. anyways, clear skies luke!
Aw mate that's awesome!! huge congratulations on your new job, I bet that'll be such a rewarding career for you! :-) Definitely give these mounts a chance if you can, affording yourself a certain amount of automation/ease of use can really elevate your enjoyment I feel, hence I enjoy this rig so much!
Congratulations again and clear skies :-)
Great shot Luke! Wow, NGC 7822 already?? Up so much sooner for you guys in the high North. :)
Thanks mate!! It's circumpolar for us here I believe, haha! Pretty cool to have a target like that I guess, especially on a rig that would otherwise struggle with galaxy season!
Clear skies my friend!
Ill never know who it was those 13 hours ago, but I do bless you for this membership
Haha! Welcome aboard mate :-D
Hey Luke! So nice to see you back outside with a rig! It takes me back! I know what you mean, I miss it, having an observatory and letting Nina do everything, it’s really great to be back out with the gear and the good old ASIAIR! I love that thing too😀 Great image Luke, keep it up mate and clear skies!
Thanks Simon mate!! Ah it was a breath of fresh air haha, quite literally too 😂 can't wait for summer now though, warm nights with the asiair should be lovely fun
Clear skies matey!!
Ah its nice to see you out although its not the same seeing you carry the AM5 unlike when you used to lift the NEQ6 onto the slab, finally managed a night out on Tuesday for the first time in ages to as it's been a heck of a while since I were last out, lovely image mate cleat skies!!
Thanks so much mate haha!! I agree it's not the same as the old eq6 carry outs 😂😂
Hey Luke. Your work is always so well done!!
Loved the final image and all of the time lapse video sections, so well done.
CS
Thank you so much!! I love time lapses, they really capture the feeling I think 👍
Clear skies!!
Hey Luke, absolutely gorgeous video 🙌🏻nothing beats your "outside" videos. Cheers mate 💫⭐🌟✨
Thanks so much Danny bro! Really glad you liked it :-D clear skies!
Glad to see you back outside imaging! Beautiful image man!
Thanks so much mate!! Glad you liked it :-D clear skies!
Great video Luke. Love the final image. Good to see you getting out out lol. Clear skies my friend
Thank you Rob!! Clear skies to you too my friend 👍👍
I love your channel lukomatico, your videos quality is getting better and better. I would love to see your channel grow, I personally think that there is one thing you could do, that could give you some extra audience. How about just simple saying what kind of object do you photograph, where is it exactly, what size it is, how far and more interesting details. I would love to watch the video and learn something at the same time but almost none makes this kind of videos. Just an idea but think about it : ) Good luck anyway mate!
Hey there my friend! That's a really thoughtful comment, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with me - I'll take them on board and try to incorporate, thanks again!
Clear skies!
Hi Luke very nice image mate the observatory must be a real bonus when the weather is cold and for easy setup of your equipment but nothing beats being out under the stars on a clear night
Absolutely Tony! - it's lovely to have an obsy, but as you say nothing quite beats getting out there!
Cool video. I will never get rid of my AM5/AA+ setup. It's just too convenient.
Totally agree my friend!! - superb kit :-)
Top Image Luke, and a really good looking set up. I use an ASI mini to control my grab and go set up, and it works great. The only problem is of course I can't use my Altair Astro Cameras with it. It's not a big deal anyway as my main rig is controlled by an Eagle mini pc on which I have Installed Sharp Cap, NINA and APT, though these days I just use Sharp Cap, I find it the easiest to use.
For me, for anyone on a tight budget who uses ZWO cameras or supported Canon and Nikon DSLRs, The ASI mini has to be the best buy around. OK, it doesn't have provisions for a light panel or field rotation control, but if you're on a tight budget you probably won't be buying this type of gear anyway. I also believe the mini doesn't work with some of the more expensive ZWO cameras. It still does most of the things the ASIAir Pro does but is only just over half the price. And, most importantly, it works! I now have a rig I can have permanently set up and should I get an unexpected clear spell, I can take outside and be imaging within minutes.
That's excellent mate, having a rig you can just quite literally 'grab and go' with is a major boon, I bet you'll get more imaging done than ever before really :-)
Clear skies to you!
awesome to see you back outside dude. like the good old days :D
Oh yeah mate, thank you!! :-D
I heard some features of ZWO devices don't work with other devices, cant remember the specifics though.
I do love the look how all the ZWO gear looks together. I could definitely see my self building an all ZWO rig. 🤓
Hey there mate! The only ZWO asi item that's restrictive with compatibility is the Asiair system really, at least as far as I know! 👍👍
Hope that helps
Nice vidio thanks Luke
Thanks David mate!! :-D
Beautiful image, Luke! Glad everything worked well for you. But, PLEASE, don't pull out your hair -- or you'll look like me! Haha! I just got a new scope and I'm in the cloud penalty box for a while. Glad you had some clear skies!
Thanks so much Greg!! :-D congratulations on your new scope by the way, that's awesome to hear!
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey Mate , nice to see you again... Question , you can't use NINA with the ASI air ?
Unfortunately not mate! asiair is a closed system, it just runs their own system :-)
Clouds came in 1pm onwards for me, so i got half the data i need.. but I can see you took advantage of this long awaited night and had 4 rigs running.. did you get time for a brew?
The G60 is a lovely scope and very comparable to my FRA300...
Hey mate! :-D sorry to hear you got clouded out, that sucks! re: time for a brew, I actually didn't haha, it was a bit much to be honest when two of the rigs were playing up!
Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
When did you get any clear nights??? Gaps seem to be the only way at the moment.
you're not kidding mate haha, most of this data was gaps in clouds basically! :-D
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Really nice image! I am curious as to what your power source was, looks like a Jackery? I ask because I am trying to power an AM3, ASI Air Plus and the ZWO ASI555MC Pro with a Jackery 240, and the mount throws an error that it does not have enough power to slew. The ASI Air shows less than 11V, and that is no good as well. Perhaps I need a more "robust" power supply? Thanks!
Hey mate, thank you!! I do indeed use a jackery explorer 500, but I also have two other smaller power supplies which work equally well! Try to go direct from the 12v socket if you can, otherwise you'll need a good quality 240-12.4v adapter brick and plug into the inverter :-) cheers!
@@lukomatico Thanks for the reply. I purchased the Pegasus Pocket Power Box Micro, and connected the AM3, ASI Air Plus, and my ASI533 to individual DC outlets on the Pegasus. Nothing is connected to any DC Out on the ASI Air. Using the Auto Socket on the Jackery, it is supposed to output12V@10Amps (so they say). Not sure why this won't power these three items, but anyway thanks again!
I'd be tempted to remove the ppb+ from the loop and use the asiair power outlets, it may help! Worth a check in any case, the asiair has always powered everything without issue for me 👍
Good luck mate!
Apologies for the newbie question, but do you setup and leave things running and go back to everything in the morning, or stay up through the night?🤔
Scrub that! Just seen on the video! That will teach me for commenting before watching the whole video! 😂
Haha!! No worries at all mate, glad you found what you were looking for! I do indeed stay up with my gear all night 👍
What was the battery you were using please, what sort of battery life do you get with you portable rig, thanks!
Hey there! I was using a jackery explorer 500, the battery lasts about 16+ hours while powering that whole rig, including two dew heaters and a cooled camera! :-) it's excellent!
@@lukomatico Thanks for that.
Thanks Luke. Be interested to know what was happening in the observatory! Probably the one clear night in 6 weeks over here in south Cumbria and I decided to have another try with Nina 🙂↕️😭🫨😤😤😤nearly put a match to the observatory at 1:30am and went to bed thinking foolishly I might sleep. Hanged if I can get the EQ8 R to reliably connect and track. Back to the good old ASIAIR again now and hoping for a clear night or two before nights get too short again. Clear skies
Oh mate that sounds like it was a nightmare!!
I actually don't know what was even going wrong in the obsy that night, mounts not connecting, cameras not connecting, focusers not connecting, - no reasons as to why! 😂 Such a pain.
After a few restarts of the Observatory pc's all the issues mysteriously vanished!
