I'd say it's closer to five years after because "Leech" was originally a B-side for Animosity, which came out in 2001 (they even performed it during their Animosity livestream concert a few months back). Tonally I think it fits the film perfectly, even more than Freddy vs. Jason, especially with the original ending in-mind: Ashe (or The Crow this time around) refuses to return with his son to the afterlife in-order to save Sarah, who have both fallen in love with one-another, so he's damned to spend eternity on Earth after Sarah is killed. Pretty tragic stuff and I think the line from the song "I'll be the one left here when you're gone" perfectly encapsulates that notion.
