PRO HOT GLUE GUN TIP! A quick and easy way to get rid of the webs it leaves behind: let everything dry completely and then take a hair dryer on low heat and melt them right off :)
Loved the video! My mom and I have been crafters and scrapbookers for years and our absolute favorite go to dry adhesive is the Tombow tape runner. It comes in both permanent and re-positional and it has entirely replaced any other paper-to-paper adhesives for us. I even used to keep one in my backpack just in case teachers ever made us glue something down at school because once you go tape runner you never go back to liquid or glue stick. (also my mom and I have a strange nickname for glue dots: snot dots. 1, it rhymes and, 2, you know they look like boogers)
I'd love to see you do a video on the fabric hot glue sticks. I'd be interested to see how well it would hold up to a trip through both the washer and dryer.
I don't know if you get this in the US but something I use all the time is zap-a-gap with zip kicker which is instantaneous drying superglue. Really useful for awkward jobs that don't balance well while drying
One think to mention about wood glue is that it is essentially a stronger, more tacky version of Elmer's glue, so it can be really great to use on mat-board, or paper, or anything you want to dry a little quicker. I use it to build models with mat board and it is tops
Yeah if u wanna glue pieces of acrylic together U can use liquid solvent cement. It looks like paint thinner kinda. It's apparently really bad to get on UR hands so we had to use these syringes things when we were using it. U just put the two pieces of acrylic together where U want then joined and then syringe the liquid solvent cement along that line. Or if u want two on top of each other instead of like at an angle then just put it on the bottom one then place the other on top. There's a bit of wiggle room here but not for long, U need to get it in exactly the right position very quickly or there's no undoing it. I'm fairly sure it's like an acid or something because it does leave a bit of a stain on the acrylic when U look at it in the light
Thank you so much! You just don't know how many glues I have purchased before I started crafting , that just sit on the shelf because I have no idea what to use it for. Very helpful !
Thank you! This was so helpful. I just used E6000 for the first time and what a mess! I punctured the tube from excessive squeezing. I did wear a mask. But, oh my what a mess!I appreciate the time you took to make this video.
Thanks for the breakdown of adhesive. I'm exploring crafting and want to know which adhesive you would recommend for pasting wood on a canvas? I'm combining organic materials with man-made items on canvas. I've used hot glue and that's a hit or miss. It also creates spiderwebs that creates a mess. So I hope u can help an aspiring artist out!!
In school and kindergarten we always made something you could translate as potato clue. It was basically a light glue made from potato starch and we only used it for paper. But it was cheap and easy to make :-)
Aww, spray adhesive. An Art School staple. By the time my class left SCAD there were permanent paper outlines and dedicated signs in most common areas warning against using spray adhesive. Also rubber cement pickup -- amazing. (Random fun fact: My great uncle invented 2-part epoxy during his time working at 3M. Neat, eh?)
You can also use rubber cement by letting both sides dry before pressing them together. Less mess, and a bit re-positionable :) (It's really good if you're trying to be precise with your gluing and need to see drawn guideline or something.)
Maybe I missed it but did you mention Glossy Accents? It’s a Ranger product & is great for metal ; I use it for buttons to metal or gems to metal/plastic
Tamiya plastic glues are used primarily in plastic models 1/4 scale or smaller (1/4 scale to 1/700 scale), aircraft, ship, dioramas, cars, military equipment and sometimes "resin cast" models. I am looking for a Revell model of an LSM 203 (landing ship - medium, early design) or an LSMR that I can convert - 1/48 scale or larger, or a plan for the balsa equivalent.
Do you have any suggestions for a glue to use for mounting and sealing a poster to a canvas? When I was at the craft store, I thought that maybe Mod Podge would work for that, but I wasn't sure if I should use it for both sides, one for gluing and one for sealing or what. Also, a bit of advice from back when I used to paint silly miniature figurines: test your superglue on plastic before applying it. Lots of plastics are just fine for use with superglue, but some superglues will start to dissolve some plastics (and if your fingers are getting warm, you've glued them to whatever you're working on).
Very useful video. I'm new to glue, becoming addicted to it. No, not in that way; more like to glue AND crafts. You clarify most of my questions. Thanks again.
Not sure if you’ll see this in 2019, but if you do...what glue would adhere a laminated paper to wood? Eventually I would like to cover it with a poly resin to make a plaque. Thanks!
nail glue is great for fixing plastic toys or small plastic things . I always keep it on hand I've fixed my husband's fitbit band , my kid's favorite toys lots of times and it dries super fast, that's great because my guys are very impatient
Quick super glue tip! If you glue something to your finger (or if you glue your fingers together) you can also mix warm water with soap or laundry detergant and soak your fingers in it for a while to kind of dissolve the glue. Nail polish remover works great but it can be really drying and if you have really sensitive skin it can get all red and itchy.
I wish I had your video prior to particular trial and errors, but I am dropping a line to tell you how amazingly informative it is for all the people starting new projects, and for those who share a bond with you in salivating over adhesives. Did you have the windows open for this video recording? Hahaha Im totally kidding, you rock and thank you for informing us
I am making a project where I am wanting to glue a piece of flat fabric to a flat piece of wood. I am trying to keep it even without any bumps. What glue would you use?
I've seen felt glue at Michaels before. I'm not sure exactly what the difference between that and fabric glue would be. But I should probably buy some. I often crochet plush animals/figures and use felt for facial features but I usually glue them on with hot glue which probably isn't be best for felt and the heat probably isn't good for the acrylic in the yarn. For paper I like Elmers clear glue. I am kinda clumsy so clear glue leaves less visible mess. Also I'm surprised you didn't mention puzzle glue lol. Although I guess it probably doesnt have many other useful applications.
I tried mounting a printed panoramic picture for a model train background on foam core. Didn't want a glossy look so it wasn't laminated and was printed on wide bond paper. I used Aileene's spray adhesive. Unfortunately it warped when it dried. How can I fix this OR if I have to do it all over again.. what can I do to avoid it from happening again?
You didn't mention any repositionable glues/adhesives. There's a spray adhesive for quilting that is also great for Scan N' Cut, Cricut & other cutting machine mats, to hold your paper, leather, foam, vinyl sheeting, etc. down to your cutting mats, so you don't have to buy a new mat just because the adhesive isn't tacky any more! There is also adhesive remover, that is awesome if you need yo clean off the same mats to re-apply a clean layer of repositionable adhesive, such as the quilting adhesive spray (similar to what you use for stencils! I'm going to have to try that! TY!) Really great video on glues & adhesives! Anything for glass to canvas, wood, etc.? Gorilla makes some great stuff for that! There's also thick mediums used as adhesive & for texture on canvas that works well for multimedia too! Oh! and pastes! Yes! there are a LOT of adhesives/glues! Oh! mounting spray adhesives for photo mounting onto foam core or boards, and specialty things like framing! You can make "blocks" out of watercolor paper with hot glue guns too! Just a little dab on the edge of the pad, or stack of loose paper! (use sparingly, or you might have to heat or use an exacto knife to separate you paper after painting on it! (a small dab on each side of low of multi-temp hot glue works well!) OMG, SOOO many adhesives!!! I'm off to watch you tapes video now! Anu aluminum tape in there??? Oh! I forgot PVC pipe glue! It REALLY, REALLY stinks, so use out doors, but for connecting pipe parts, there's nothing better, and it's water proof too! The blue type is best, so you can make sure you are sealing everything! (necessary when building fountains for either indoors or the bigger, or full-sizes for outdoors! (There's also solders for glass too!) and the copper tape needed for soldering (+ don't forget the flux & a really high-watt (250+ watt) temperature-controlled soldering iron... I'm not sure if that's really considered an adhesive, but it is necessary for stained glass! E6000 is the best, IMHO, for putting findings & wires onto crystals, ground stones & glass (jewelry) so you don't loose them! It's clear & really inexpensive insurance!
I'm making some Phifertex mesh window covers with Soft Velcro sewn to them. So I need to secure the Rough Velcro to the outside of the window. I'd like to be able to remove the Velcro someday incase we move, which glue would you recomend?
Lauren Cosgrove not quite, mod podge tends to be stronger as well. If you're in the UK try hobbycraft for either Mod Podge or Decoupage Mediums :) amazon sells as well
Have you ever tried Sugru? Apparently it holds pretty well but I have never used it.. By the way, thank you very much for this well put together video. Great job!
Hi Karen! I really enjoyed your energy! Which glue would you suggest if I need to glue something like glass to a construction paper temporarily, and then just remove it by pulling it off easily, like the kind that holds a credit card in place inside an envelope?

I thought hot glue was used mainly with fabric, so I'm surprised that there are separate glue sticks for bendable glue. Also, I always wondered about spray glue being used with stencils. Now I know. Re-positionable spray glue in a can! Can you let me know more about glues like Ranger's glossy accents, and multi medium matte vs. matte gel by liquitex, and gesso vs mod podge.. Pls!
You should totally do a video like this about paper products. Card stock, photo paper, watercolor paper, etc... Talk about different weights and textures and any other details you know of.
Danger! Lots of people are allergic to nail polish remover when it gets on their skin. I know that it gives me a really bad rash. Besides that, it's really harsh even if you're not allergic to it. I would recommend that if you get superglue on yourself to immediately try and wash it off with warm soapy water, but I know that's not always possible if you're tryna glue something together. I usually just suck it up and deal with having glue left on my hands for a couple weeks. Very informational video though! I have never heard of plastic glue before...
This was super helpful-- thank you! I kept seeing mod podge and E6000 showing up on youtube videos and I wondered what the usage was of them compared to others. I really appreciated this. It was a lot of great information :)
my relationship with hot glue has been complicated since i was ridiculous enough to let it warm up for about 20 minutes before using it and then tried to apply it to a very small piece of wood that was between my fingers. needless to say, three of my fingers have now experienced hot glue burns, and man, it was worse than i could have ever imagined. don't let your hot glue warm up too long, kids!
This video helped me with tacky glue but I kinda wanted to know what the other glues like glues that are simullar to hot glue guns are so I dont have to buy expensive hot glue sticks....For example like fabric tac or something simullar not hating..

Can anyone help me, im making my own tape in hair extensions, there are many you tube vids on here on how to make them. I want to make them so I can reuse, but they don't mention the glue they use..if anyone has any ideas I would be grateful, one guy who makes and sells these tape in hair extensions will not tell u what the glue is he just says you can buy it on the high Street. ????
I love how you have everything organized behind you, I always misplace my air
I love these videos. I work at Michael's craft store and it really helps me give better advice to customers for their own projects.
"I'm glad we have this bond." This bond. I hope that was intentional!
LauraaMarieC It wasn't, but now I'll pretend it was :D
+Karen Kavett I thank u for buying glue for us, now gimme a little bit of rubber cement.

Anyone else see the jar of AIR in the background?
I thought I was the only one
***** come here to say that ! :D
LOVE IT !
technically any jar that is not a vacuum has air
And even then it only loses oxygen, unless you are filling it to the top, then it is no longer a jar of air. ;)
🤣🤣🤣

You'd never heard of a glue pen?! So glad you found them! They're amazing! And they have saved my scrapbooking pages and cards on multiple occasions.
Hi Karen. Besides tacky glue or a hot glue. What can I use to stick felt together? Thanks. Tanya
Great video, thank you so much for your help! It really help me select the right glue for my architecture project. Much love ❤️ 🙌🏼

Your videos are entertaining and informative. Really enjoying this series.
Hey Ms.Karen, what kind of glue would I use to make pearl beads stick to a wood or plastic picture frame?

Thank you but what can I use for plastic to plastic
may i ask which glue is suitable to stick glitter on fabric ?
This is really handy now I'm looking into doing some crafting to make some steampunk stuff. Thanks Karen!!!

mod podge makes colorful hot glue sticks and molds so you can make little shapes. you should check them out they are at micheals
Wait, is Mod Podge PVA glue? Because you can't get it where I live, so I was wondering if they were the same?
Lauren Cosgrove I don't believe so. I don't think PVA is archival where as Mod Podge is, also Mod Podge I believe is water proof
Lauren Cosgrove not quite, mod podge tends to be stronger as well. If you're in the UK try hobbycraft for either Mod Podge or Decoupage Mediums :) amazon sells as well

PVA has toxic fumes
What glue should I use to glue fabric to cardboard? I have tried some that goes thru the fabric and some once dry they come off when I handle it

How do i stick glossy paper to plastic? Very urgent
Yes, Karen, yes. We lovers of adhesives share an unbreakable bond.. :) I have an Amazon wishlist dedicated solely to Adhesives. Thanks for this video! It was informative! I've also heard that Aleene's makes an adhesive called Tack-It Over and Over that you can use to make your own glue dots. Seems pretty economical as you could make thousands with just one bottle. I'm planning on getting some myself mount my own carved stamps :) Keep up the great work!
What kind of glue would be recommended for gluing tiny fake jewels to a tutu.

The rubber cement brought back art school horror story flashbacks.
Also I swear by two-part epoxy. It also comes in a putty which is fantastic!
that was extremely helpful thank you!
Great video! Your fun! Awesomeness!!!
