Being on time is SO hard for many people with ADHD. Time is so nebulous in my brain. It’s so hard to describe. I am trying so hard because I don’t want to be that person and it causes so much stress, but even if I wake up two hours earlier than normal and expect to get to work two hours earlier I’ll still get there ten minutes late. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lisa Johnson, good point. You will have to build in some controls to help you get there on time. Set an alarm, Leave the house extra early. I know you can figure out some systems to help you be successful in this.

Right now my dad drives me to work but I imagine that, especially when I move out and to Florida, it’ll be a good idea for me to aim to get to work an hour early (if appropriate) and sit in my car. After time, that can be reduced or I’d recommend at least 15 minutes.
I’m considering starting to get up in the 5:00 hour so that I’m always ready on time (ready to leave at 7:30) and that I’ll also be able to eat breakfast and sit on my phone more.
This side of ADHD should be treated like it’s an addiction because, speaking for myself at least, it is. You may find that approach helpful 😁

This is me exactly. I have been struggling with this for 20+ years. But I am tired of almost getting in trouble at work. I am lucky to have a lenient boss, but it puts him in a bad spot. I have been afraid to even change jobs because of my lateness.
But I have been doing some research, and I am going to do exactly what he says, in the next comment about setting controls. I wrote out a schedule for my morning, and I tried to follow it. I was a little off, but I built in buffer time. So I am actually five minutes early for work! I am going to work for more than that. Then I will be ready for my new job!
It is also so hard for me! But I am so tired and embarrassed of being late. I am very determined to change it. I also planned for extra things to do while. I am waiting in my car when I am early. Or I can reward myself with a coffee or breakfast sometimes. That seemed like a good incentive to me.

20 years ago, I showed up late every day by 2-3 minutes. I had a boss who raved about my work performance but because I was late every day, that reduced my integrity and took away all the hard work I did the following 12 hours. "Is it worth it?" he asked me.
Wow. If you don't know, you don't know. But when your eyes are finally opened, you can do better and there's NO excuses then. This vid was another reminder to show up for life! To stop being a victim, and don't make a commitment if you can't keep it. Thanks again!

I liked how he opened your eyes, by asking a question. You don't know until you are told and honest conversations can improve the work experience. Thanks for sharing, Dana Johnson.

Always be on time for work, it's not just about being professional, but it will advance your career. I used to work the 4am-12 shift and would always arrive about 5-10 minutes early (despite having to commute 50 minutes) and be ready to start work on time. There'd be colleagues (who lived like 2 minutes away) not arriving until at or after 4am and then messing about for the first 10-15 minutes before actually doing anything. The same at the end of the day, you're paid for 8 hours, not to be out the door when the clock hits 12. To cut a long story short, they're still there doing the same and I'm now at executive level.

I believe the REAL reason why Susan was joy riding the next state over without a drivers license and couldnt make it to group when she lived 5 blocks away is because joy riding in the next state over without a drivers license doesnt require much commitment and you dont need to be on time.

Best video yet!!! Another great reality check for me. I would love it if you could do another video about cleaning. Maybe explain the differences in thought patterns between a messy person and someone clean. I could really use some explicit direction and honesty in this regard. Thank you.

I had a roommate who didn't think it was a big deal to be a few minutes late every day. She was a cab driver and since I don't drive, I relied on her . After awhile i started calling another cab, even though it cost me more, which made her angry. But too bad, I hated being made to feel like there was something wrong with ME because I was always so anxious about my daughter being late for school every day, and me showing up to my college class either right on the dot on time, or 1-2 mins late.

This was a great video and I have been struggling with this for sometime getting to work on time just because of some reasons and I definitely even before watching this video had the sense of a few things you were saying definitely it is worth it to be on time because if you’re not then and just for those moments you do lack commitment and do lack the respect that you could receive from managers

My whole thing is I don’t want to get up at 5 am .. I work 2 jobs and I’m exhausted... I have to get up at 5 to get my 4 yr old at preschool by 8 that is a hour drive because it’s the only one that had a opening for her special needs...

Oh I do sir.. It’s usually me my bed and the tv just to rejuvenate... Ofcourse I get up to care for my little ones needs but everyone knows most weekends I’m in the house and I don’t have my social media on. We have a special phone number my family uses if it’s super important or a emergency cuz I put my cell phone down on the weekends.
However atleast once a month I try to have family time with the kids so they don’t feel I’m unengaged with them completely on my free time..
      Great video btw 🙌🏼

So ...your "TIP" on how to always be on time is, Just come earlier and or just be on time????
Did you really need 10 minutes on how to always be on time, just to tell us the best way is to just be on time or just come earlier?????
