Hi Charly, Yes, that's possible and it's something I'm going to do a tutorial on. It's pretty tricky. Basically you want to add the topics to the drop down. Then make the "value" an email address. Then make the "variable" from the dropdown the "to" email address in the email tab. Does that make sense?

Do you have a tutorial for when you select one answer from a drop down it gives you another drop option as a result of the first answer? For example I want to set a drop down for States and one for Counties. If someone picks NY as a state then the next drop down will show the counties to choose from within NY state only. If someone picks California in the first drop down box than the next drop down box will only show the counties for California.

Hi Marcus, That is possible. If you go into the form editor and look at the shortcode for the drop down menu it is likely that it has include_blank in it. For example: [select* drop-down-menu-529 include_blank "Apples" "Bananas" "Oranges"] Replace include_blank with "Select an option". For example: [select* drop-down-menu-529 "Select an option" "Apples" "Bananas" "Oranges"] That should do what you looking for. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Actually, this would not work as not chosen option and if end-user does not select anything then the form will submit the value of the first field without prompting to choose an actual option. Leading to sending the form with the first selected prepopulated option while not selecting anything. The correct way is to enter: first_as_label "Please select" "Apples" "Bannanas" etc. This way it will make the "Please select" the placeholder and will not accept it as selected option and user will have to actualy click and select something.
Thanks Bjorn very good video, but for some reason the first value --Please Select -- only appears for a split second then disappears on a page load/refresh - all the dropdown items are as they should be, but once selected they do not show as selected - I have tried using "placeholder-first" but with no success - are you able to point me in the right direction - Steve

It doesn't look very good, though. I don't think it's intuitive. Is there any way we can make it better? You have to hold ctrl + click to select multiples, which I don't think users would instinctively know.
+Jordan Carter Good point. Usually if there is a multi-select in a form there are instructions on the page explain how to select them. The appearance can be adjust with CSS, but that doesn't change the need for using ctrl. The only other viable option is to use check boxes. Those allow people to select more than one option per check box set.
Agreed. I ended up going the checkbox route, and used them as a part of a dropdown. This feels like it would be a good plugin extension for Contact Form 7....maybe I'll look into creating it.
Hi Katie, That would be awful, but I've done it in the past before I learned the trick. You can go into any spreadsheet program and type in the first few years vertically in cells. For example the first cell could be 1900, the cell below it 1901 and the cell below that 1902. Then you select all of those cells at once and a small solid colored box will appear in the bottom right corner of the cell lowest in your selection. Click and hold on that box and then drag down. When you let go all the cells for the distance you dragged will have years in them in the correct sequence. You can then highlight all the cells and copy them. Then paste them into the dropdown making in Contact Form 7. I havent seen anything like it. Im not sure how to get it to not deselect with a new click. I ended up using a block display checkbox list with max-height 200px and overflow: scroll. It gets the job done. Thanks anyway
I've only ever seen ones where you have to hold down CTRL to make selections. But I have a feeling it could be done without CTRL using Javascript, but I could be wrong.

Hi Heidi, If the plugin is not detecting that a field is required when it is then that's a deeper plugin issue that's not easily fixed. Does the plugin have any updates you haven't applied yet?

After you've added fields in the Form tab of the CF7 builder you need to save the form. Then go to the Mail tab in the CF7 builder and add the shortcodes for the new fields to the email that is sent. That's a great thing to have in a form. You have to either find lists of states in each country that are already made, or make your own. You can do this in CF7 using dropdowns (obviously) and the conditional CF7 elements plugin. I'll make a tutorial on it soon!

It submits even though we do not select anything anything from drop down
