I know this is going to be me repeating a lot of the things you said in this video. But what can I say? We had the same train of thought on this. Yeah, this is definitely a very interesting take on Superman, on a lot of levels. First of all, I like how the show is giving him points to "evolve", for lack of a better term. Up until this point, the general consensus seemed to be that the only way to break through Superman's "veil of perfection", so to speak, was to take the character to dark places and utterly break him down at every opportunity. This series is going the exact opposite direction, almost expanding on what the DCAU did with him, where he was a mere mortal until he was almost out of his teens. This version of Superman clearly doesn't have his full range of powers yet. And of the powers he DOES have, his super strength is one he's having an especially hard time controlling. They also seem to be going the "Jonathan Kent" route, where anytime he's stressed, either a new power is going to emerge, or the powers he DOES have are going to grow stronger (like in the first episode, where he freaked out, trying to save Lois, and not only did he heal, but his strength and speed instantly doubled). But I like that this is also an origin story for Lois and Jimmy as well. And while Jimmy is still very much Jimmy, in the broad strokes, this is VERY new take on Lois that we haven't seen before, because we're seeing her just starting out. Yes, she's ambitious, but that ambition is born from the fact that she clearly wants to be a part of the news business, wants to do it well and at a very high level. Granted, that does cause her miss the forest for the trees a little bit, and make some questionable decisions, but there's no malicious intent behind her actions. She simply wants to do this because she loves it...and really, what better reason IS there to want to do something? That's quite a departure from pretty much EVERY other iteration of Lois that we've seen before (at least, pre-marriage to Superman). In all those other versions, we were introduced to a Lois who was already firmly established as a reporter. As such, her ambition always came from a completely different place, because she was all cynical and jaded from years of having to bite and scratch and claw her way to the top of the mountain in what has generally always been a "boy's club". So whenever someone DARED to step into HER world (especially if that someone turned out to be a MAN), her default response was always to IMMEDIATELY view that person as a THREAT...because really, what else COULD they be? This new version of Lois is a great deal more optimistic, which is refreshing to see. At least, that's just MY thinking on it.

As for the collaborators the one that doesnt fit group of Waller and Wilson. I believe that might be Samuel Lane. we have Lois and obviously he dad would never be far behind. As noted General Lane has a over protective mind set and is xenophobe knowing about super man for first time and learning about her actively seeking out the stolen tech could ram hard as he either shuts it down or threatens the Daily Planet
When I was watching the second episode I had the exact same thought about the technology because the robots in the first episode; looked humanoid (Earth made) but ALL the energy was coming from the crystal looking energy source. Maybe Waller was warned an invasion was coming somehow and used an evil genius to make Xenotechnology from pieces of Kryptonian science that came to Earth with Clark or something… but the question(s) is who knew about the facility and why not come get the stuff from her? Because imo someone told her what was there

I was worried about the midnight timeslot too. I'm not American so I don't have any official way to support this (beyond watching and liking every video on it Adult Swim puts out on their international UA-cam) , and I loved it a lot! I hope it manages to air when teens and mature kids can watch it too at some point, assuming it doesn't go super dark or something. But regardless of what it does, I just hope it succeeds to become a long running show. I haven't really watched anything Superman since Smallville was airing (never watched the cartoons and definitely didn't care for the snyderverse), so it's nice to have a Superman story to get into again, one that's hopeful and fun.
@@CapedJoel I did googling for it and only found "use a VPN to then sign up for HBO Max" and that's not exactly a viable option. This show is fantastic its funny the animations great the characters are great everything i just have one question.. HOW ARE THESE ROBOTS ABLE TO JUMP SUPERMAN?!
I like it so far, however I’ve always hated “bumbling, dumb” Clarke. And we’re really supposed to believe he didn’t master his powers by now, when he discovered them as a kid? Animation is really good.
His "borrowed" construction worker clothes withstand a robot's lazarbeam. His "borrowed" construction worker clothes don't get dirty during the fight with the robots. His hood doesn't balloon up like a parachute and pull right off of his head while flying forward at high speeds. Just a few oddities I noticed.
I think its a stylistic choice, though he may have to focus to concentrate his powers like chi. However, the shot after he fights the robot and heals makes it clear he still gets his power from the sun.
@@youareacoward8459 I never said it was, I said he may have to focus to charge up his power - but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t derive it from the sun. He could simply be concentrating the solar energy - there’s a very deliberate shot of him flying with the sun in that fight.
Why do everyone always ask for Batman to appear? I’m sick to death of Batman and th Joker. DC has other heroes and villains besides Batman and Joker! I hope this show stays focused on Superman for at least one season before junking it up with Batman and other characters.
I just can't stand that superman is pictured as a city level character in this show. I mean, in episode one he gets beat up by a robot. And he almost got killed by a bunch of robots. I'm sick of seeing characters who are easily beyond planet level struggle with street level threats. This ain't invincible, where the older they are, the stronger they get, with the amount of solar power superman has accrued, he should have easily just flown through the robot. Anyways, rant over.
It's literally his first day on the job, he didnt even know about Kyrpton in this version of the story until the same day he got his costume. We can see he clumbsyly break stuff in episode one becuase he's basically been just trying to ignore he has powers at all and pretend to be normal. It's also playing by anime rules now not traditional comic book rules. He's gonna unlock more new powers and skills at the most dramatic times. It's really not that hard to grasp.
@@GuyLogen the powers of superman isn't the reason why superman is an interesting character, it's his heart; the idea of wanting to help others because, no one else will. i'm sick of superman fans thinking all superman is, as a character, just about the powers. the powers don't make who superman is, it's the man behind the power that is important.
@@GuyLogen because to me that's not who superman is as a person. superman to me is the quote "clark kent is who i am and superman is what i do." so to me the interesting thing about superman isn't his powers: it's his HEART. and this show so far has developed that superman/ clark kent has a heart of a hero, and that to me is great characterization of this character.
Didn’t like it why they trying to downgrade superman powers he looks week against simple metal robots i hope this is not what james gun is trying to do with his new movie jus to make it more relatable or to seem that things cost him im tired of that that’s why im liking the new comics superman powers now transcend time, space and matter i mean he gets bruces now in this cartoon it sucks
Did you miss the part were this is literally superman' s first week on the job as a hero? or that he is only now as an adult learning about his powers and alien heritage?
@@CapedJoel Also the fact that it was show that the it was later in the evening. Where the sun was already going down the horizon so there less sunlight powering him. The wombo combo of inexperience and running out of juice.
I personally prefer a more vulnerable superman compared to one that barely has to worry about getting hurt till kryptonite comes into play. It also allows threats to be scaled down better. Superman doesn't need to be planet destroyer level for the story to be good.
but clark kent as a character can be relatable and be superman. which is the reason why i love this clark kent. he has the heart of a hero but is still a MEGA DORK: which is who clark kent is in his beginning years. the powers don't make who superman is, it's the man behind the powers.
It's a show for kids so I am fine with the anime look even though I don't are for anime in general, but that Deathstroke design is pure ass. He looks like a K-Pop idol and why the hell is he wearing tactical gear in broad daylight? It's absurd.

Did you notice Vicki Vale on Lois’ wall when she wakes up? This is really cool hope they drop little hints and Homage to Supes.
No I didn't actually that is a super awesome Easter egg. I guess that would mean in this universe Vale is already an established Journalist.
I thought that before the reveal at the end of the second episode that Lex Luthor was who Leslie stole that tech from.
I like that Superman and Jimmy are roommates because of course you wouldn't be able to afford a apartment in metropolis on a reporters salary
I finally watched the episode and im pleasantly pleased at how well it is
I know this is going to be me repeating a lot of the things you said in this video.
Awesome review i like the episode overall i love the anime art style the voice cast i never thought i see the day that the voice of Jerry Smith is the voice of Deathstroke
MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN IS MY NEW FAVREATE SHOW
I LOVE THIS SHOW
THE BEST DC SHOW SINCE 2013 BEWARE THE BATMAN
I did NOT know this started !! OhI got to see this !!
THANKS!!
Edit: THIS WAS AWESOME!!
So glad Luz found an acting job after The Owl House ended
now that we have Luz Lane.... next Mr Mxyzpltk will pull an Weirdmageddon isnt it
Now what if this does good they make a Batman one and maybe build this version of the justice league in this universe. Probably won’t happen
there IS an upcoming batman series that they could make in the same universe
Great Video Joel! I Love watching your videos. I feel like you are a kind soul with a super talented touch to yourself and a perfect voice one likes to listen to all day :) Long time subscriber right here! I'll be there, when your get to your 100.000 subscriber mark! And trust me... that'll happen!
I’m late, but glad you have another DC animated series to review. Still love your vids, and the first 3 episodes of this new Superman series were really good.
Thank you 😁
The show looks great I love it hope it can keep it up.
It does its own thing while respecting the Superman lore (watch and learn MoS).
I also like how he doesn't have all his powers yet, I was wondering why he didn't listen in to Perry and Lois.
@@MCPhatman But that;'s not right, he started to get his powers at 16, so techically he SHOULD have all of them already. AND HIS MOTHER MADE HIS COSTUME!!
slade gonna be wearing the ikon suit when fighting superman
@@kwayneboy1524 first fight clark would probably go all out not realizing how strong he is and it would result in slade losing his eye
next fight slade is gonna wear the ikon suit
As for year one story i like because we get an actual build up into the hero as not many shows do the year one direction right. many aspects are added and made into this amalgamation. i like silver era and mixed comic/media legends.
my only negative about this show so far is the pacing in the second episode was abit too fast. but besides that, i love clark kent being A BIG DORK.
That;s supposed to be a cover-up!
@@colleen4ever clark kent isn't the disguise: superman is. clark is who superman is not the other way around. clark kent the farm boy who grew up in kansas is who superman is as a character.
Christopher Reeves ranked #1
Animated voice actor Tim Daly #1
Um, I’m pretty sure that Lois is voiced by the same Voice Actress who voiced Luce in Owl House, not some random UA-camr.
Nope.
I once read intro for a novel saying supermans story is like peter pan it s been told multiple versions of the story that can be told as many ways it can.
I guess they're doing his son Jon Kent supercharge ability for this superman
clark kent already had the supercharged ability in the 90s, so it's not like the electric blue or red superman is a jon kent thing.
@@johnthai6188 well that's different cuz that's the solar flare amp. This one's similar more so to Jonathan Kent's since his symbol also turns blue when he utilizes it against Ultraman
@@maohutube the solar flare amp is from the new 52 tho. the electric blue and red superman is from the 90s; that was way before jon kent was ever a character and made it his thing.
@@johnthai6188 I mean The Eradicator Superman from the '90s had a similar ability to the solar flare Superman so you could say it's like a precursor to the ability
@@maohutube i will give u this, it's more of a mix between his solar flare and his electric blue powers. which is interesting, because usually those are cases of him losing powers. the solar flare made him lose his powers after it, and the electric states was only developed because he was losing his powers.
I KNEW there was a reason i got hooked on this show! The animation style is by the same ppl who animated The Legend Of Korra! It makes sense now. 😅
Because imo someone told her what was there
We do know Dr.Ivo and Brainiac are gonna be in later episodes so id say those are very good theorys.
12:09 agreed
Im pretty sure the other guy with Deathstroke, is Sam Lane. Just a hunch
I wonder if the daily planet has to try and pander for sales like the Toronto sun and add sun shine girls or daily dames for the daily planet 😂😂 I know a couple people who have been in the backs of those papers local fame at its best 😅, also 10/10 I’m pumped this show actually made it
That sounds like idea Lombard would pitch to Perry every week.
@@CapedJoel oh god that’s too accurate hahaha
There's a part of me that wants and also doesn't want Superman in this to access his electric blue powers. The blue lightning just keeps making me think, and even the s that formed on his chest looks a little like it. XD
I liked seeing all the blushing between lois and clark i like when they get together not the will they wont they
I'd like it a lot more if Jimmy didn't pester them to get together then cockblock them at every opportunity
How do we know that portal is not directly tied to Darkseid?
Because if season 1 has Darkseid and Superman wins, the story ends.
You realize Superman has more enemies than anybody
A major question i had to look for answer is will see Luthor will he be a threat. according to an interview Luthor will be in the show but not season one. given that not that many superman characters get limelight it make sense if live to see multiple seasons a fanfare for luthor showing up would make sense build suspense.
the fact this is on adult swim is funny to me
I was worried about the midnight timeslot too.
It does go the streaming apps the next day I learned
@@CapedJoel I did googling for it and only found "use a VPN to then sign up for HBO Max" and that's not exactly a viable option.
If it comes to one of the international streaming services I'll happily sign up for that (or watch it on live TV if a TV licence channel picks it up)!
Edit- Unless you were talking about my concerns that it wouldn't reach kids and teens and the like?
If so, that's good to hear! Hopefully it gets a big audience for all the relevant ages!
It was great. Totally enjoyed it.
so let me get this straight, Krypton, the most technologically advanced society, second only to New Genesis, couldn't make a prosthetic eye?! AND it never occurred to them the alien planet they were sending there baby to would not speak Kryptonian and maybe do a scan for the languages on the planet to come up with a translation?!
The eyepatch looked super tough, probably a style choice
they prop can just jor el refuse to get one. and Jor el didn't exactly have much being you know the planet blowing up.
Finally someone who noticed that. AND they messed up a lot more. Like, he gets his powers when he's 16,. his father died around that time. His MOTHER made the Superman costume out of the blanket she found him in as a baby! That's one of the sweetest parts of his backstory and they took it away.
Lois looks more like Lance (Voltron) post HRT
You know, I had NO idea that was supposed to be Deathstroke until watching some reviews after seeing the episode.
Overall I liked the episodes, although the antagonists aren't too memorable so far.
I gotta say. Am I the only one thinking batman & robin are watching Jimmy Olsen's podcast. Probably joker and Clark.
So thats 5 people. lol. I hope my head cannon is right.
Great review
Does anyone think that the general we see at the end was general lain
Personally for me I was hoping we could've gotten that superman family animated series with Clark kent and Lois lane having there son Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self going on silver age stories back in 2018 because that show could've been really awesome and tons of fun but no we didn't get that show which is a shame because that show looked really awesome and tons of fun but that's just my opinion.
@@kwayneboy1524 oh I certainly hope so I really do because nothing would make me happier but to see this show evolve into that show with clark lois and Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self going on silver age adventures because that would be really awesome and tons of fun at least in my opinion.
Jor-El played by Odin
Big Boss.
Kept you waiting huh
seemed clear to me that there are some hinted differences we will learn there are different potential reasons and events behind him being sent to earth, least from what i could tell, that we likely will learn more, also in before people bitch about perry and mr. white both being african american instead of white
There better NOT be!
This show is fantastic its funny the animations great the characters are great everything i just have one question..
HOW ARE THESE ROBOTS ABLE TO JUMP SUPERMAN?!
art style looks like Marvel's spider-man 2017 imo.
1:40 spiderman.
Hello I have subscribed to your UA-cam channel
Still surprised it's an Adult Swim show.
its the other guy with wilson and waller supose to be general Lane?
That's a good guess. Could John Corben could be Wade Eilling. Lots of shady military dudes to go around in the DC universe.
This is Good 👍Show, 👍
This , is Good 👍Show 👍,
My takeaway from this episode was Clark is an utter fatass like me for donuts.
I like it so far, however I’ve always hated “bumbling, dumb” Clarke. And we’re really supposed to believe he didn’t master his powers by now, when he discovered them as a kid? Animation is really good.
@@kwayneboy1524yes, but that’s something he should have mastered by his teens.
He discovered them at 16, but yeah! FINALLY someone else gets it!!
It's a cartoon about an alien who can shoot lasers from his eyes. You can't except the little things like that to be covered all the time.
@@mad0813 Never watched DBZ?
@@sizier yeah... Amazing how their clothes always tore exactly the same in every fight. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Not to mention the robots almost crush him! HE;S SUPERMAN!!! HE WOULD HAVE CRUSHED THEM!!!
It looks like his powers are either magic based or chi based. It's not the normal version, and the universe is a alternative one, that's for sure.
I think its a stylistic choice, though he may have to focus to concentrate his powers like chi. However, the shot after he fights the robot and heals makes it clear he still gets his power from the sun.
@@Sheija Actually not, it's focused, look at the color. It's like Goku. The more he struggle the more he charge up.
It's not passive.
That's why I HATE it!!! They messed it up!! He;s not Sailor Moon, he;s SUPERMAN!
@@youareacoward8459 I never said it was, I said he may have to focus to charge up his power - but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t derive it from the sun. He could simply be concentrating the solar energy - there’s a very deliberate shot of him flying with the sun in that fight.
@@colleen4ever Well to be fair, the costume would never be able to fit under a normal costume, like the boots?
I make superman animations too if you want to take a look.
@@CapedJoel If it does turn out that way in the end then I'll give the show a second chance, for prematurely judging it.
@@johnthai6188 why can't we have both?
He had as a kid, he should have some practice by now
I personally prefer a more vulnerable superman compared to one that barely has to worry about getting hurt till kryptonite comes into play.
Right, I didn't even catch to the fact it was him until waller showed up and when I saw it boy I cringed so hard
For real lol Like gee, I wonder how Leslie sussed him out. And yeah, I was way more interested in this character before I realized it was Slade. I'm still interested in this version of the character and what they'll do with him but... #NotmySlade
