    sheng is a street langaunge mostly spoken by youths in kenya and most of people who are above 60yrs dont understand it since its keep on evolving with time.. and it's a combination of kiswahili english and local dialect and any other spoken laungauge.

    There are Swahili to English books meant for kids but you can find in Nairobi streets by those booksellers along the streets in CBD you can ask them.

    It seems you had alot of fun here , hope you get better in Swahili. I think one of the best ways of learning a language is spending time with children who speak the language and going out to the public coz you hear what alot of words that are commonly used 😊

    The teacher and student interacting with each other is too comedic. He even started teaching you in Swahili. 😂😂 He may not be perfect but it made this video entertaining. Bring him back again. What is a Sarahbee video if it is not fun?

    Sheng is a mixture of Kiswahili and other languages not just English. Some sheng words are even guess work. Loved the lesson when you were speaking Kiswahili you looked and sounded very Kenyan to me.

      yeah ..and sheng is also dynamic ... the way current youths will say "It was fun" ...will be different in probably just 5 year span

    My eyes are filled with tears of laughter 😂. I had to laugh throughout,so entertaining. But of a truth, Swahili is not difficult to learn. The spellings are straight forward. I learnt along . What a teacher and student 😂😂. Sarahbee keep making our day. So refreshing 😂😂.

    Sasa/poa is a casual language (sheng) used by people who know each other, and its mostly used by young people..

    The correct response to sasa (how are you?) is fit ( am good). Mostly used with young children.
    Another greeting the teacher missed was Hujambo response is Sijambo. Mostly used with fluent Swahili speakers. Not a common greeting in Nairobi. You can use this when you go to coast.
    Also note, it is mzuri (good) not muzuri. When someone says, habari Sarah? (how are you Sarah?) Response is mzuri sana ( am very good)

    Ngapi it also means quantity example in counting things maybe nicase your buying goods seller may ask you unataka ngapi? meaning numbers of goods you need

      We are only poor when it comes to spoken but written sisi ni gwiji, Nyanza schools perform excellent in Swahili. Even the accent indicates he's luhya!

    Don't use shikamoo in Nairobi. Reserve it for Mombasa. Habari will do for all ages in Nairobi.

    This guy is teaching you Swahili and Slang (Sheng) at the same time. "Sawa" is the short form of, 'Sawasawa'.
    Sasa, mambo, poa, are slang.

    Some of the people here are jealous of the teacher. He is doing a very good job 👍 given that he is also a foreigner, i highly recommend him. Some of the Kenyans cannot even speak like him. Let us encourage more people to learn Kiswahili... Kiswahili kitukuzwe!

    The way you Nigerians pronounce _mama_ sounds like the Kenyan English uptown slang for "girlfriend". I don't know whether people still say that though

    Sasa ,mambo or Niaje have the same meaning which is "how are you" and the response is poa or fity meaning "am fine"

    You don't say sasa poa. Poa is a response to sasa. Sasa is kind of like asking what's up now. Poa is like saying I am cool.

    Bibi or mke wangu is for Kenyan swahili for a wife.
    For Tanzanians Bibi is grandmother.
    Kenyan for grandmother is nyanya.
    Tomatoes too are nyanya.
    And Tanzanians are fond of making fun to us Kenyans for calling our wives bibi.

      I don't think we Kenyans are wrong for that. I think of bibi as I think of Binti. I think that is where bibi comes from. Binti=miss,bi=mrs. I think bi is short for bibi, just a guess.

    Princess, use "shikamoo" in Mombasa and coast region only but not in Nairobi. Eventually, kiswahili has what we call "rahaja" it has dynamics especially where you resides. So the most important thing is to learn it's basic, the way you are doing, coz in Nairobi, you will have a funny kiswahili different from Mombasa,e.g ozaa.

    Swahili is widely spoken African language. It's language that ought to be spoken by Africans. Currently Arabic English and other foreign language at the top. Swahili has its roots from Arabic and Bantus from the coast of Tanzania and Kenya.

      Correction: It is best to describe Kiswahili as a Bantu language which has many loan words out of Arabic. It’s roots are in the Bantu languages. But it has interacted with Arabic for many centuries.
