    You’ve always done a good job with your video essays but you’ve smashed this one out the park. A phenomenal piece of work. This is the kind of work which makes this platform worth sticking with.

    I've only recently found your channel thanks to Casey Explosion, and I have to say these are some of the best long form video essays I've seen. You really should get more views, this is criminally underrated stuff! Your editing is snappy, your criticism is insightful, and overall great presentation.
    To the point of your vid, I'm in much the same place. I grew up loving the DCU. Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern-- all of them were the heroes I looked up to, the myths that helped me through difficult times, made me want to be better. After watching BvS, I was inconsolably angry at what I just watched. I wanted to give Snyder the benefit of the doubt. But in the end, I felt like I had just spent the better part of 3 ours being told "All those things you love about your heroes? Well I think they're dumb, here's Batman gunning people down in the streets and Superman looking sad, talking to his nihilistic ghost dad, listening to his mom say "you don't owe humanity anything," and dying for sequel bait." It was such a cynical, overwrought mess. Thank you for giving voice and nuance to the discussion.

    This is an incredible video! I actually had no idea about the connection between the Superman/Zodd fight scene and Birdie the Mighty, you're the first person I've seen mention it!
    I always get excited when I see a new upload from you, can't wait to see what's coming next!

    Amazing work. The depth you went to on the writing and directing is phenomenal. You should be really proud.
    You made me inspired to continue a rewrite of the DCEU video putting liberation, anti-colonialism, and anti-capitalism at the core.

    This video was well worth the wait. You're videos are always insightful and it was cathartic to hear you put thoughts into words that I've had trouble expressing, and interesting to hear ideas I hadn't even thought of.

    that bit at the end hit me, on why you felt so angry about the snyders version and how wrong it felt to you. It was as I felt with the Bay transformers movies. The hijacking of something you love to something dark and miserable wich synicaly uses the imagry but with no meaning. And then them wanting that to be the only image.
    Also yeah I dont want the snyder stuff back. Aquaman was really good and if DC want succesful movies they need to capture that feeling.

    Holy subverted expectations, Batman! This episode was absolutely packed. Two hours long? Sure. Bloated, inflated, decompressed, padded? Not even almost. Great job! Really! I'm finally ready to close the book on BVS, and for that, I thank you with all my heart.

    "This dearth of subplots"?
    A dearth is an absence. The movie has an abundance of subplots. A quagmire of subplots.

      @@TheActualCathal I tried to dub over that in post because I knew I made that mistake - I meant to say “no point where Lex is on the back foot and isn’t holding all the cards” - but the dub sounded terrible so I left it in the hopes people would get what I meant…

    Snyder thought he was making 'The Dark Knight Returns', but it was more just one "I'm the goddamn Batman" away from becoming the cinematic version of 'All Star Batman and Robin'. Plus apparently Snyder's DCEU plans going forward included Supes and Lois Lane banging and having a kid with said offspring taking up the Batman mantle after Brucey sacrifices himself (I wish this was just really bad fanfiction, but it isn't).
    Also, it's worth noting that Snyder has gone on record saying that he disliked comic books until TDKR and 'Watchmen' came out. It would explain why stuff from the Golden and Bronze Age (like Green Arrow's sidekick developing a heroin addiction in one storyline) went over his head. He's 55, but has the mentality of a really dim teenager (and that "fantasy world" comment was really obtuse).

    • @zhengyingli
      @zhengyingli 3 роки тому +2

      Snyder never thought he was making TDKR. He even said explicitly during the announcement of BvS that he's not adapting TDKR. And he was right; BvS turned out to be the reverse with Batman being the villain and Superman being the hero.

    I love how all these edgy comic writers and filmmakers think that they’re all the first person to come up with the idea of subverting the cultural idea of Superman by turning him into a huge prick.
    If anything, Superman is ALREADY a subversion. He’s an enormously powerful public figure, but not only does he wield this influence altruistically, he is also receptive to the needs of the public and willing to be held under scrutiny for his actions.

    • @zhengyingli
      @zhengyingli 3 роки тому +1

      Isn't Snyder's Superman already receptive to the needs of the public considering he repeatedly lost his jobs to save random strangers in Man of Steel?
