    some people don't care about over/under but personally, I'm used to it now and it's so much better.

    Great video. I sometimes struggle to explain this in my media workshops, and you made it seem effortless!

    Let me go really fast to you, but to me it's normal speed. Got it, Here's part two, and just out of frame the twist happens. Repeat this, very easy! Practice Practice Practice!
    I would love a slow mo- multi angle video of cable wrapping..

    Video and audio cables have a center conductor and an outer braided shield so they have to wrap part one way and part the other way, like a figure 8. Otherwise it is not easy to "throw out" and can also be damaged.

      Stray Angel Films Wrong, think of it like this. If it didn't come off the spool like that, you don't roll it like that.

    You must look backwards in a mirror and aim the barrel reflections at perpendicular angles to the ascension of the sun. Then with great care, breathe from the diaphragm as you exert pressure on your rectum using your kegel muscles. At this point wrap the cable in the upward direction away from the downward force of gravity and complete the turn. When pointing downwards, flow the cable in the direction of gravity and gently but carefully "let go" - just the cable please. Repeat until you are sore or you run out of cable. This will accomplish two things. First you will develop more control over urine flow and second anyone who sees you doing this will appreciate your well spent years of training in audio engineering school. Wrapping digital cables requires one more step.. You must tip the cable and drain all of the data out first so that you don't further compress the data packets.

    I was taught the over under method when I worked at a TV station years ago. I now work at a high school and I cut my own cables from a spool of Coaxial cable from a local hardware store. We use these cables to run SDI signal from camera to switcher. The Coax cable is more rigid and does not coil well. I saw a local production company wrapping their coax cable up in a plastic spool type device, which looked much easier than fighting the coax. My question is should I continue with the over under method with Coax cable or could I wrap it around a cable holder (or spool) without damaging it. I would like to see what your thoughts are. Thank you in advance for any suggestions that you can give on the topic.

    It’s absolutely INSANE that people need a video about how to gently and evenly wrap a cord.

    I am curious. Can't I just wrap all of my cables using this method?

    Thanks for the video. But explained too quickly. Still didn't get it after watching the video 5 times. Had to look few other videos to fully understand it. And how do you fix old cables that are twisted and bent

    should i do the over under method for my guitar cables too, just for extra care purposes? i like to treat my belongings with respect and make them last long.

      Anything that has internal shielding and carries a signal should, in theory be coiled under over. The reason being the you twist the internals of the cable the less that way. Not a huge difference but in my opinion it's always a good idea to get used to doing things the right way.

    why is this method superior to just this type of cable and not regular power cables? or did i missunderstand you and this should be the way you wrap every cable?

    • @Necrometalfist
      @Necrometalfist 8 років тому

      yw92 Because it's not superior, it's actually the wrong way to roll any kind of cable.

    I disagree with the idea that data and audio cables are wrapped differently from power cables. The same issue will arise if you wrap power cables the wrong way. I have used the over/under method for over 40 years. I do it with any and all cables, and even with my garden hose.

    I use over under on my power/stinger cables but have been told not to. You also mention you shouldn't. Why is this the case?

    • @StrayAngelFilmsInc
      @StrayAngelFilmsInc  9 років тому +2

      +TheCommidor Not 100%, but we believe it's just so the stingers can be "thrown out" easier on set. If anyone knows different, please chime in.

    YOU DO NOT WRAP CABLES OF ANY KIND BY OVER/UNDER METHOD!! ESPECIALLY CABLES THAT ARE EASILY DAMAGED.
    THE OVER/UNDER METHOD SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO ACTUALLY DAMAGES CABLES.

      Instead of ending your caps rant at the end of your point...maybe provide a reason ?
      If all of that is too easy, or you're just not into caring much...why don't you tell us the right way to wrap xlr cables? :D

      ZpurpZ can you read? I said it actually damages the cable. I say this because it puts an unnatural twist in the cable that can and will damage the wire inside.

    • @zpurpz
      @zpurpz 8 років тому +4

      Necrometalfist lol then you are more wrong than I was even hoping... Audio cables NEED to be wrapped like this.. Or else the "unnatural twists" begin to appear. Maybe you've never touched an xlr cable before..
