This video sees Executive Producer Lisa Henson tour Into Thra, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Exhibition at the Southbank BFI.
Alongside a selection of workshops and screenings, this immersive exhibition at the BFI showcases puppets and props among the stunning sets. The experience brings to life the craft behind the production - transporting you into, and behind the scenes of, the world of Thra.

@@takence9524 I haven't watch the original 1982. I thought it some kind happy kid series tv show. Watch several episode, and I was blown away. It is actually far more than I expected. The cinematography is really good. Great character development. Story is so dark and deep. The music are fantastic. Just need to get used a little on their expression limitation since they all use puppetry

It has gone just a few days since it's release but I would allready dare to call it a cult classic. Absolute Joy from beginning to end.
@@henrikandreason7261 Absolutely true. The whole time I was watching it, I kept thinking: "Am I seriously one of the first people to witness this?". So many great moments one after the other, with no filler whatsoever. I feel dissapointed that there aren't as many people nerding out over it online as there should be, including people who are ignoring my recommendation. This feels to me like what I always imagined it felt like to watch something like "The Godfather" or "Star Wars" in theaters before it became a phenomenon.
I tried watching the film so many times I just couldn't get into it, so watched the series then the film now I just love it.

I freaking loved loved Dark Crystal Age of Resistance! My God it was beautiful the way the puppets and CGI married so we'll together! I laughed, I cried, any scene with the skekses where like omfg what are they going to do next? I am literally geeking out. The theme song is stuck in my head. Please season Two at least!!!
This season got a 90% from critics and 92% from everyone else, definitely deserves SEVERAL more seasons!

It needs to happen. Sooner or later people get tired of stagnation. This was like an arctic breeze of fresh air amongst the dessert trodden cinematic landscape of overused CGI that we have today.

What is the most lovely about all of this is that it respects the 1982 film by staying puppetry. Many shows now and days are so eager to cop out to CGI that you lose the magic of the reality, the practicality of things. Seeing so many people put time and effort into making this a real world fantasy is so amazing and Jim, surely, would have just been elated to see his vision being brought to a whole new audience.
Child's Play 2019, Shape of Water, Mandy, Blade Runner 2049 etc. use practical too
Yeah they tried a version with CGI gelfing because their puppets are so hard to handle because of their size, but Netflix decided against that.
Just amazing how this was made. I want to watch the show again just to marvel at every hand-made detailed flower.

This is truly the series of the year. Forget G.O.T, westworld etc. The Dark Crystal just blows them away with amazing characters and a wonderful story. This brought me back to Netflix

I absolutely loved this prequel to The Dark Crystal. It builds on the original movie and improves everything it had to offer. Everyone has much more personality, the lore is richer, the world is overflowing with magic and wonder, the creatures pop off the screen, and the decision to make this a series rather than a movie solved every problem the restraints of a movie on a world this size had. Everyone has much more time to be developed, and no one misses a trick. Everything that made the skeksis evil, repelling, loathsome, and frightening is pushed to very brave places. Various call-backs/homages to the original don't go unnoticed or unappreciated either. I could go on forever about why I love this series, but, what I really want more is a second season.
What you guys have created here is something truly unique. One of the best fantasy stories I have watched in recent years. Thank you for giving me this experience! I hope the The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance receives the recognition it deserves.
This show was insane. It not only exceeded my expectations it totally blew them away. I'm watching it again after finishing it Monday with my partner. It absolutely added an element to modern fantasy that was missing but also is so so so unique and new. Incredible. And THE. MUSIC.

never since I was a child have I´ve felt so invested in an imaginary world again as when I was privileged to binge all episodes on a very great TV set. The dedicated craftsmanship, the artiste clever and well planned dialog that made the motivations feel true to characters. This is type of handcraft you seldom see in this new age of rapid and sloppy screen writing and productional interference and involvements with no true passion of the product they try to sell. This was a revisit to Thra not just made well, but masterful. I am still in awe of what you did and how it made me feel. And in a world when remakes an nostalgia money quick-grabs don't leave much of hope for any tasteful productions anymore. You gave me ten episodes of my most precious time of my childhood back to me and I am for ever great full. THANK YOU FOR MAKING AN OLD MAN FEEL LIKE A BOY AGAIN!

True art at its finest. Perfect writing, design, graphics and so much more. I thought for sure someone would mess this up somehow but it stayed true to the original storyline as a prequel. I am so impressed and so in love with this new Netflix series. I hope the world sees this and takes away a little piece of the magic that this series has created.

I just watched the entire thing and I have to say, even though everything is a 10/10, the music is what really put the nail in the coffin. That music when a great moment is incoming made it so much more magical and stunning. I freaking love this show and hope you’ll make more!

To be honest I was very skeptical when I heard about this series about one of my favourite childhood movies. Ive experienced so many dissapointments with sequels to great movies, like Tron.
But after actually seeing and experiencing the efford and the pure movie magic and hard work that went into the making of this series... I fell in love with it AGAIN.
It is so fresh, yet still handmade and brought to life with so much love for detail, story and characters.
Its amazing!
And it is wonderful to see that true moviemaking and respect for source material still exists.
Thank you for this wonderful piece of art in a dull world of bad movies.

I absolutely loved it. This series was a true masterpiece, and it is fantastic to see so many people enjoying it.
I had the pleasure of attending this exhibit. They even let me in to the screening of the first episode of the series a week before it premiered on Netflix. The atmosphere in there was incredible - not a dry eye in the house. Everyone jumped up and cheered and applauded and cried at the end. The rest of the series didn't disappoint. The decision to cancel it did.
i was completely overwhelmed by this! it most certainly lived up to the original story and did Jim Henson's vision proud! I have to say when i first heard about this last summer i had great doubts about it, i was in a bad place at the time in my head and my mental health issues were at their peak and the whole idea of it was just "meh", but it made me put the movie on as i hadn't seen it in a long long time and its one of my favourite guilty movies of all time (the ones you say you hate to everyone but secretly you know it line for line lol BIG part of my childhood) i don't know what it was but when that opening line started something clicked in my head, i sat and took everything i saw and heard on the screen in, it set my imagination off like it had the first time i watched it as a child! It inspired me to get up and use that imagination to write, draw and create something again, lifting me out of that dark place. I recently started to doubt what I've been working on wondering if it is worth it but this series has ridden me of that doubt and inspired me again, brought back that feeling i got as a child imagining what Gelfling civilisation was like or how the world of Thra looked before it was ravaged, all those questions that set my mind cogs turning. Sometimes i think we need more dark tales like this to get peoples imaginations going and inspire, even if it's just for a moment or two. Anyway, enough going on, thank you for keeping me on track and can't wait for a second season! (sorry to anyone who read through this shite lol 👍🤪)

Johnlindsey289 yeah, you have to remember in 90’s, despite what people would say now that it’s got a massive cult following and it has the respect it deserves (and yeah it had a cult following in 90’s but not like it does now) it wasn’t seen as a good movie and you couldn’t tell your mates or other kids you liked it or you’d be made fun of for liking that over Batman forever or Ace Ventura or what ever the cool movie was at the time, and it was like that for a long time until social media etc and all those kids who said it was shite started admitting they liked it (lol). I like labyrinth that was another we watched over and over but for me it had a beginning and an end, where as Dark Crystal still had questions (if that makes sense?)
Yesterday i just finished the series and saw the documentary and WOW, what a show.
Anyone who grew up with the 1982 Jim Henson fantasy classic who is either an 80s kid or a 90s kid (ones who saw it on video or on Disney Channel in the 90s) or even those who are 80s/90s kids hybrids like me (born 37 years ago and adored the movie for for 33 years since i was 4 when my parents bought me the movie on VHS at 4 then 25 years ago i rebought the movie on Disney's VHS when i was 13 in 94 then in 2000 i replaced the tape with DVD then in 2009 with blu-ray and last year i bought the ultraHD 4K BD which is my first UltraHD 4K BD purchase).
What do you get when you cross Game of Thrones, Robert E Howard, Frank Herbert, George Martin, JRR Tolkein, Demolition Man (themes of so-called benevolent leaders where rebels can see greed and deception), Avatar (both airbender and Cameron), Fire and Ice (1983), Star Wars, Legend of Zelda and Fraggle Rock? you get this epic series.
I love the world building, different gelfling tribes, the origin of how Skektek got his eye removed and all that. Maybe in season 2 we'll get a flashback of how the Urseks came and split into the two different races. All in 10 60 minute episodes in a miniseries kind of way. Even some rousing action in episode 10.
And i hear there will be more mystics in season 2 and maybe in season 2 even Garthims and maybe a background flashback of the Urseks.
This is using practical effects, animatronics, people in suits, puppets, cgi, models and all balanced together and is a passion project made by people who have an actual love of the original and honoring Henson's legacy and respecting the material just like Blade Runner 2049 was to Blade Runner as that was an excellent sequel.
This and Blade Runner 2049 succeeded where lazy halfassed attempts to bring back retro properties like Ghostbusters Robocop, Elm Street etc failed miserably because those have no passion or care for those properties but made for a quick buck where Blade Runner 2049 and this show are made by people who care/respect the source material and do new stories even passion for the project. This looks like it's doing Jim proud! and nice cast too even Mark Hamil as the scientist.
Good job Jim Henson Company! my favorite show of the year
My only gripe with (what is now) the DC lore is that it (now) isn't the cracking of the crystal that split the UrSkeks.
In my 80s fanboy heart it had a lovely poetic symmetry that "that" (the crystal being struck) started the problems and the healing of the crystal rejoined the UrSkeks.
Ah, what could have been.
But it is a minor gripe.

One reason we remember Chamberlain - apart from his distinctive voice - is because he's the only one from the movie who's NAME is mentioned! We didn't know what any of the other Skeksis were called, apart from the Emperor. I'm so glad the new season addressed this. All we need now is to see all the Mystics in Season 2 and hear them sing! We've GOT to hear them all sing!!

I get overwhelmed when I think of the amount of work and time that was put into this. Not only that but to bring these puppets to life in such a convincing way is mind blowing. The little green guy was SO CUTE holy crap.
