Smokers , be mindful of smoking around your children also. I went to the Dr for something in the 5th grade, and after he gave me a check up he looked at me and asked me how long I had been smoking . I just looked at him , I had never smoked ! I said " I don't smoke ". He said " Well, right now your lungs show the signs of a smoker ". That was because both of my parents smoked in the house , in the car. I lost my mom three years ago to COPD. Smoking is so not worth it . 😢
So sorry to hear of this. My own mom died from Leukemia many years ago. And it is time that we find a cure for this disease. Smoking is some dangerous stuff. So glad that you are doing better. You are in my prayer's sir. I understand.
@LillianSteele-u9v thanks for sharing your story my friend , and for your kind words. God prepared for to face my mom's passing six months before it actually happened. It's a long story , but I grew up TERRIFIED of losing either of my parents to death. I literally thought I would probably kill myself if I lost one ,or both of them, I didn't feel like I could live without them. God , knew my heart . He knew I wasn't going to handle it well, and he knew it was coming . So, God put me through a little test ,on Christmas night of all nights . I found myself in a near death situation, I didn't see how I could survive, so I prayed out loud and said " Dear Lord, if it's my time, I'm ready . I only ask one thing of you, please take away the pain my parents are going to to through losing me, I know they won't survive this , just give then peace , for me Lord . " And instantly, his voice was in my head, and he said " It's not your time, here is how you are going to survive this . " And he told me exactly what to do to save myself that night . After I was out of harms way, I started walking back to my parents house in the dark , and I prayed to God thanking him . He THEN spoke to me once more. He flooded my head with comfort . He said " Trust in me, death is nothing to fear, it's not the end of you, you simply move on to what is next for you. I've had this planned out for a very long time, before I ever created Earth. " He said a little bit more than that to me, but just telling ne that , I felt the fear of losing my parents actually leave my body , I knew what God had just don't for me. Six months later , my mom passed on . And I didn't shed a tear at her funeral, because God had given me that message of peace .
I appreciate him getting right to it instead of the people who claim to have life changing advice and have hour long videos that tell you to buy their book for the details.
All are things I’ve learned to avoid. I’m 73 I smoked for 30 years, drank heavy, ate whatever. Fortunately I made it this far. I finally got wise and first ( over 30 years ago) I stopped smoking, next I cut waaaayyy back on drinking and then stopped completely. I became interested in nutrition and eating whole mostly organic foods, herbs etc. I feel better at 73 than I did at 53 in many ways. Do yourself a favor, especially if you are young and realize that your health is really all you have. Without your health you have nothing, rich or poor, young or old, protect it with knowledge and dedication. You won’t regret it.
As a nurse of 37+ yrs I agree whole heartedly, I also would put on the list stress it's for sure a killer, get out in nature connect to the elements in a walk or just star gazing at night!!! Many huggs ALL!❤❤❤
Absolutely agree. Disconnecting from our fast paced lives and technology is so important. The most common people I’d see in the cardiac ICU were desk workaholics. Driving, work (especially being overworked in a toxic environment where you can’t quit because you absolutely cannot be without income or insurance), taking work home with you or being salaried, you don’t have time or energy to cook from scratch or unprocessed and then just want to veg on the couch because you’re absolutely exhausted. Then drinking/smoking to cope with it all. And we wonder why we have such a problem with heart disease and diabetes. It’s an unfortunate reality 😞 for so many it is or seems inescapable
@@MarleneG-pe5ij Other kinds of intense, life-altering stress can also be deadly. Stress like divorce ... death of a parent, child, or other loved one ... job loss ... natural disasters that destroy everything you own ... crippling car accidents ....... it's a lengthy list, I'm sorry to say. 😒
I try to tell my wife this all the time, but she doesn’t go outside much. Fresh air and sunshine are very healthy for you. As you said it can help relieve stress, and it’s good for your immune system too.
True. Trying to feel normal when i am not stressed. 'Cause ive been i survival mode since childhood and my so far adult life. Its all i know. If i begin to feel calm i feel like i am sad, or like something is wrong. I feel unsafe
@@Maria.5482 I can relate. I’m almost 41 and just getting out of survival mode for many many reasons. More than a decade of therapy, completely cutting out alcohol and focusing on what brings me joy and stability and living for myself and not other’s expectations of me. It was hard to accept that I am not responsible for what happened to me but I have to take responsibility for how I go about life going forward. It gets better, gradually.
@@Maria.5482 man that shit is no joke. I've developed some pretty shitty health problems pretty young. Thought I could Push through it and be stronger. After so many years of chronic fight or flight, my body put it's foot down and told me to fuck off. Hard times don't always lead to strength. Sometimes you have to listen to your body or it'll start destroying itself. Hope you found some way to live better!
Good for you! It's never easy to give it up. I've been smoke free for years, but it took about 15 tries to finally give it up. I'll never forget the struggle, and I'll never go back.
Agree 1.000,000% on sleep well. Unfortunately I have not slept well in the last 20 years. I am relatively healthy and very active a 62, but feel I will die younger than I should, do to poor sleep. I am 1-2 hours short every single day. Given the choice from a magic Genie of $1Billion in cash, or absolute perfect sleep every single night, I would choose the sleep. If I slept better I would make way more money, not a $Bill, but plenty enough.
Since you didn't specify what you mean by eating well, I will. A whole food plant-based diet gives you the best chance for a long and healthy life. Some processed food is better than others and a small amount isn't a problem. Plant-based meat alternatives are better for you than the meat they replace.
Agree with all you said. Bizarrely enough, Mom smoked 70 years before passing away last year. Dad, right at 90, has used alcohol based Listerine forever. Hope I get their ‘good’ genes since I don’t smoke nor gargle w Listerine 😅
They don't have good genes. It has nothing to do with genes. Longevity does not equal health. They lived til 90, great but I guarantee they weren't healthy.
@@eye-leenloveLongevity does not equal healthy. Those non smokers who died first were still healthier. I'd rather be healthy then live a long and unhealthy life. In fact I can't think of a curse greater than being sick and unfit and living for a long time.

@hugofontes5708 Yes it does. It would be just as bad as alcohol if not worse because hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidant and could cause oxidative stress in your body

The only thing on that list that I struggle with is processed foods. Even though I try to eat as close to nature as possible, it's really really tough to avoid packaged foods of some kind.
Same. That's because companies work hard to make it addicting and they do a good job of it. I eat a lot of healthy food but still struggle with the processed stuff.
It’s not as hard as we think. We just have a habit of buying specific things when we go to the store. I recently learned how to make the most delicious cauliflower rice, and I can make it faster than a pot of regular cooked rice. Make a big pot of stew and eat it all week. At least have the processed stuff on occasion, and the whole foods the majority of the time.

I once hung with a guy at work who drank waaaaaaaaay to much. I actually cut down the amount of times because all he ever did was drink alcohol. I once said too him "If you don't cut this down big time it's going to kill you!" He just laughed it off. He died 7 months later.
I knew a guy who drank too much and he said that he was going to die from it so I asked him about going to a 12-step program. He immediately started ranting about how they told you a lot of bullshit and so I said, "So you're saying that you would rather die than go to AA?" That made him stop. The studies linking mouthwash to microbiome disruption leading to loss of blood pressure control were only about mouthwashes containing chlorhexadine, not alcohol. On the same principle, it might seem like a good idea to avoid alcohol-based ones too, but chlorhexadine mouthwashes are specifically prescibed when a very powerful antimicrobial is called for; alcohol-based mouthwashes don’t come close to wiping out the oral microbiome.

Don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't vape, at the time I had a heart attack I was eating healthily and walking up to 16 miles a day. My cause was stress or PTSD.
Thanks Doc. Also, I feel that every green space that's not being used for sports or recreation should be a garden. If we all had gardens instead of lawns not only would we be healthier, but there would be SO MUCH LESS pollution (both air, noise and water) from all of the lawn-cutting, leaf blowing and pesticides/herbicides applied to the lawns. We'd have more bees which pollinate our food.
I fell that this may work. Have been bullied for several weeks now because of my lawn not being picture perfect. I have a problem walking and will have some assistance with this concern of keeping my lawn mowed soon.
I agree with you 💯! Both vegetable/ fruit and flower gardens. I hate noisy yard equipment and chemicals people use on their lawns, the water that's wasted, etc. Besides, flowers and vegetation look so much nicer if nothing else, but the benefits of boosting the pollinator populations is such a boon for our planet. And we'd be able to feed more people who are hungry or eating junk food instead of fresh whole foods. There are SO MANY reasons why we should do this.
Yea I think that sleep quality issue might be at the root of why there is a negative signal. If it does compromise sleep, that is WAY more stressful than whatever de-stressing effect having the drink might cause. It all depends on the person, hence it isn't great blanket advice.
@@loveishappiness7330 In large amounts. Your liver, just like almost every other biological system, adapts. This is probably why those who drink roughly the same amount, in the same vehicle (aka 1-2 glasses of wine daily), have demonstrable benefits compared to those who infrequently drink odd/elaborate drinks. The stress of this novel stimulus, particularly if it is large, is probably more likely to cause damage.
As a nurse, I think we have to recognize the fact that not everyone has the luxury of staying away from processed foods or avoiding stress. So many people smoke/drink to deal with stress. I don’t think that society gives us the tools to really apply some of these recommendations.
As someone who rarely drinks, I was shocked to find out just how much drinking is involved in the definition of "moderate drinking." I thought I was a moderate drinker because I would have one or two drinks at a party up to 4 times a year. Nope, it's one drink or less _per day_ for women, two for men. The idea that I could be a daily drinker a still considered "moderate" was absolutely wild to me.
That’s strange u thought that… So what would a light drinker be? Someone who drinks once a year? Lmao. Btw Drinking a few times a year doesn’t do squat to ur body. There’s plenty of ppl who do it everyday and are living life just fine (in moderation ofc).
@@kayleigh3648Well, to be real, your body deals with alcohol as a poison. It cannot process it as something it can use nutritionally or otherwise. If you put it in your gut your body diverts resources to isolate and expel it from your body. While it’s doing this, it’s unable to process other foods properly. This can result in weight gain which is not from the alcohol itself. If you’re drinking every day it is most definitely having an effect.
I was thinking more in terms of the phrase "everything in moderation." I figured, I practice moderation when it comes to drinking alcohol, so I must be a moderate drinker, right? The only time I really encountered the phrase was during health intakes, and it was used in opposition to "immoderate" or "uncontrolled" drinking, not in a scale of heavy-medium-light. (Although nowadays most forms just ask "How often do you drink?" and have a blank for the quantity and a "circle choice" for day/week/month and I have to manually cross it out and write in "year.")
When the recommendation for drinking first came out as 1 drinks/day per man or woman, it was specifically directed at older Americans and for wine only. This was to promote stress relief and social hour for those in a retirement or assisted or nursing home situation. I read about this ib college and discussed in anthro and sociology classes, plus had friends who were recreational activities directors and I have always been around elders and seen the benefits of this.
I like hearing alcohol, way too much drinking in our society today. And it’s considered a carcinogen! And they consider it a disease yet they sell it and everyone buys it. If they were selling diabetes or ms would you buy it?
In my experience, a lot of it is about being active. My mom and mother in law were both healthy women, no smoking or harsh lifestyles, but they weren't active and paid for it in the end. I thought I was helping by doing everything for them later in life but I was wrong. It was a disservice. I also know a lot of construction workers in their 60's that drink with the boys every day and smoke like chimneys. They are still all muscle and work right beside young men all day, sometimes harder. (They can usually carry WAY more weight) My biggest concern is staying active. Other than that, I'm just gonna live my life.

It’s amazing that for decades the public was told that moderate amounts of alcohol (particularly red wine 🍷) were good for your health. This claim was backed up by numerous studies and promoted by doctors, nutritionists, and others. It’s difficult to know what to believe.
The sad truth is the dietary recommendations (including what this guy says) are heavily influenced by industry (including the healthcare industry). What you end up with is a mix of what is good for the economy and what is actually good for health. They are getting better though, the new guidelines come out this year I believe. And if you are tenacious you can get down to the truth of what is really optimum nutrition.
Studies have indeed shown that no amount of alcohol is safe for consumption. Research highlights significant health risks associated with even moderate drinking, including cancer and liver disease. While some pseudoscientific studies claim benefits, they often fail to account for confounding variables such as lifestyle and genetics. Additionally, even in those studies, no one advocates drinking for health benefits which is the aha moment.
They said that because of what you get from the grapes. Then tell people to eat more grapes, simple. Alcohol is a poison. The Bible says strong drink is raging. When Jesus turned the water into wine it was pure grape juice. Alcohol is called strong drink and pure grape juice is called wine.
Great advice! What are the top things to do instead? I’m curious what he’d say. If I took a guess: 1. Stay active daily with cardio and resistance exercises 2. Eat more plants and limit animal proteins (but don’t eliminate) 3. Get at least 7 hours sleep a night 4. Look for ways to relax throughout the day Bonus tip: 5. Do something for the mind daily like learn something new or take on a challenge.

Salt is highly dehydrating. All his books are leading edge and everything he says really works. Learn what your body truly needs and the real cause of chronic health conditions. Blessings to your health!
@@drw1926 The amount of sleep you need varies from person to person. Anecdotally, Ben Franklin reported he like to sleep up to 10 hours a day. Hard to say it hurt him. He was insanely productive.
@@loveishappiness7330 Ok I haven't read his book, but electrolytes don't just come from lemons and coconut water. If this is what he contends, then he is wrong. There are several electrolytes, sodium, potassium, magnesium, to name a few. Some are easier to obtain than others, but all are important. Case in point, my father used to eat limited salt. Did so well for years. Recently he was hospitalized. The cause? Hyponatremia. Low sodium in the blood. He was working out like crazy, going for walks, drinking a lot of water. Never replaced the salt he lost from perspiration. Turns out the amount of salt you need is directly related to your diet, your physical activity, and the amount of water you drink. Your kidneys regulate this for you. You can get sodium naturally from your diet, but depending on what you do during the day this may or may not be sufficient. Salt only dehydrates you if you are drinking salt water in large quantities. Consuming salt actually IMPROVES water retention by making your blood slightly saltier (this is complicated and it involves the regulatory effects of your kidneys and the balance of sodium in your system at the time of drinking), which increases the osmotic pressure INWARDS towards your blood from the water you consume. This is why sports drinks are salty. They rehydrate you better because perspiration has decreased the sodium concentration in your system. This balance is critical to maintain to adequately absorb the water. Do a bit more reading than just one book. I think you will find it beneficial.
Thanks Dr. Jeremy for such good advice for everyone always. I am happy to say don't do any additives, no mouth wash & only eat a take away now & again. Agree we are what we eat. I love food try everyday to eat unprocessed food sticking to fresh fruits, veggies, fish, chicken only small amounts of red meat. Believe eat for energy & that all in moderation.
Huh interesting…wonder what Dr E Phillips would say about the alcohol mouthwash (Listerine) in her program? She swears by it, after decades using it, & she looks terrific!
@@susanmercurio1060 True. I wish we all could have quick & free access to an x-ray machine for our personal health, but since not, we can only judge a person’s overall health by her exterior appearance for her age, her present attitude, her respect towards others, and her honesty. I do the same for Dr. London, and everyone else. Now back to my question… I would like Dr London to elaborate on his short explanation for alcohol mouthwash, because I take his advice just as seriously.
I wonder if listerine is causing my digestive issues? Besides the fact that it runs in my family but they didn’t all use mouthwash, not listerene anyway.

The type of alcohol you drink and how muhh are big factors in how much damage they do. Dark red wine is healthier than most other types. Wow that's a great age ❤
My teacher did a study on this and wine absolutely damages the lining of the heart, 80% of her heart patients had damage from alcohol and the majority were regular wine drinkers. Obviously your grandma had great genetics or got lucky but I wouldn't recommend risking it to anybody.
@@theparkourlady894it's actually a myth because although resveratrol has been shown to have a small benefit to the heart its only in amounts equivalent to 200-300 glasses of wine so a supplement is the only way to get it. The alcohol in the wine causes damage to the lining of the heart even 1 glass per day. My teacher actually did a study on this cause many of her heart patients reported drinking wine on a regular basis for years. There's a specific damage to the lining that alcohol causes and after testing all her cardiac patients 80% had that damage and most were people that are health conscious thinking wine is good for the heart cause that's what the news repeated year after year for decades.
I adhere to every single recommendation by this doctor. I would add frequent, strenuous exercise and maintaining a normal to slim body weight. At 73, I am in excellent heart health, and take no prescription medications.

Smokers , be mindful of smoking around your children also.
I went to the Dr for something in the 5th grade, and after he gave me a check up he looked at me and asked me how long I had been smoking .
I just looked at him , I had never smoked ! I said " I don't smoke ". He said
" Well, right now your lungs show the signs of a smoker ".
That was because both of my parents smoked in the house , in the car.
I lost my mom three years ago to COPD.
Smoking is so not worth it . 😢

And instantly, his voice was in my head, and he said " It's not your time, here is how you are going to survive this .

Love hearing the doctor confirm being mindful of gut health and avoiding processed food❤

Processed foods are tough to quit when you don't have the energy to make proper meals from scratch 🥲 chronic pain and fatigue yay.
Just buy a few pounds of chicken boneless throw it in a casserole dish and put it in the oven at 350, and you’ve got your healthy protein for the week. Just eat cucumbers and veges that don’t require cooking. And drink just water. Think you can do this? And you’re off to a good start to healing pain and increasing energy. As easy as opening a few boxes of processed foods that are making you sick.
I feel you on that I have chronic arthritis pain
You might want to look into CIRS. Might be your problem. Heavy nattokinase doses might help with the chronic fatigue--it dissolves the microclots that cause chronic fatigue.

Grab a bag of salad mix ($3), a few bags of frozen veg ($1 each), bag of brown rice ($1.50) and there’s all your dinners for the week - chicken, rice, & veg. Grab a container of oatmeal ($3) and a bag of frozen blueberries ($3). Theres breakfast for the week! I appreciate you saying these as a heart surgeon. You are a good doctor.
Supposedly those studies were paid for by alcohol companies 🤷♀️
Studies have indeed shown that no amount of alcohol is safe for consumption. Research highlights significant health risks associated with even moderate drinking, including cancer and liver disease. While some pseudoscientific studies claim benefits, they often fail to account for confounding variables such as lifestyle and genetics. Additionally, even in those studies, no one advocates drinking for health benefits which is the aha moment.
when in doubt throw it out .
They said that because of what you get from the grapes. Then tell people to eat more grapes, simple. Alcohol is a poison. The Bible says strong drink is raging. When Jesus turned the water into wine it was pure grape juice. Alcohol is called strong drink and pure grape juice is called wine.

4. Look for ways to relax throughout the day

Sleep enough! You need at least 8 to 10 hours of good sleep to recuperate and restore your body.
