I'm having this problem on my 650 Bandit, some time ago it bagan, it some times miss a gear, but only now and then, but this morning it stayed in 0 all the way to work, on my way home it did begin to work again, but 1 wont really work and there is a delay like you said to the rest and it jump a gear up and back down now and then, I will see if I can find time in the near future to do a fix like you did and hopeful it will sort out the problem, thanks for the short and precise video, the knowledge and wisdom is priceless.
Btw I did fix it, I had no problem getting to mine and they used allenkeys on the Bandit :D but I could not take it apart (and get to the brass points) so I just used some contact cleaner a few times and let it drip out untill it looked clean and vupti it worked and have so for a month or so now.
Amigo boa tarde ótimo vídeo vou tentar fazer na minha zx10 também uma dúvida que fiquei já é terceira que eu vejo com problema Apenas na quinta marcha sabe me dizer porque
Hye friend It's worked for you? It's start to me yesterday and I want to fix it by my self I have kawasaki vulcan 650s. The system needed to be like yours I have code error 25
Grettings from argentina!!!, i remember of the mother what put screw here jajajajaaja. My zxr i have this problem, gears its slow, and neutral sometimes not appers and not stars if cluch switch is on. Sorry for my bad english.
@@ModdingAddiction its works!!!!!. The sensor was very dirty. I have to change the screw philips for other new screw but not allen or torx, only find head 8mm yesterday. Thanks for upload video how quit this screw and clean the sensor.
Whoever have the same problem at vstrom 1000 2015+ till 2019 you can do it but you have to take the gasket for the other side of clutch basket and clean it and it will work again!! I made it to mine and worked perfectly!! Just clean it inside with wd 40 and turn it back and forth sometimes till run smoothly!!!
Stupid question but I have one of these fitted to my sons little Chinese pit bike. It’s a semi automatic so no clutch and has 4 gears. No lights fitted. The wires all lead to a disconnect terminal plug which isn’t plugged into anything. Long story but the plug has been cut off so the wires are just loose. Is it ok? Are they all redundant anyway? Or does one of them serve as a neutral safety switch? Does a semi auto bike need a gear sensor if you’re not using lights (ie is it just for you to know what gear you’re in or does it serve some other electrical purpose)??
That is a good question. Some bikes will change how it reacts per gear so the ecu can control power. This is how my bike is as well as an indicator light for which gear you are in. If the wires were going to a pug that was never connected then they would be for a different model that as more options. If they are cut and the bike is running funny then you probably have a problem haha. The only thing I can see it being for is a starter stop when it’s not in neutral. A neural safety like you said. It might need the neutral grounded to turn it off if the bike won’t start. By doing that it would be able to start in any gear though. Does the bike run?
@@ModdingAddiction thanks so much that’s really helpful! Yes I think they are probably for a bike that has led indicators for neutral etc - I guess it all comes as a set/loom so they just shove it there on the part not knowing which bike it will end up on! Thanks!
I've got 2009 gsxr750. The gears change fine only the neutral light doesn't come on when its in neutral. I'll try and clean the sensor now and see if that dose the trick. Cheers for the help
Good luck to you. I’m not sure how the neutral switch works on those bikes but should be a between gear indicator. Do you get it when you switch between gears?
I have a Kawasaki Z 400. The check engine light came on. I got a code 25 on the display on the speedometer instrument panel after I pushed the buttons. Code 25. I removed the switch, came out real easy. There are no contacts visible. Just a small rod that sticks out with a pin in it that rotates with the shift drum. I turn the key on and turned The rod sticking out of the Gear position switch, and the dashboard just would indicate neutral or three dashes no numbers. I don’t know if the switch comes apart but I looked online, and I don’t know what the one for my machine cost but other ones I have seen cost $172, yikes
I had it mess up one time since then but it was a bad shift and the indicator was blank. Turned the bike off when I stopped checked it again and everything was fine.
Mine never turned the mil light on. I just noticed it when I was riding there was no number. If you have no numbers showing up I would assume it’s the sensor. If you have the majority it’s probably gunk on the termanals
Everything is still working. Sometimes it will have a random flicker but usually that’s just a bad shift if I don’t push hard enough on the quick shifter
@@torvald_fornite906 i honestly haven’t gotten the chance to do it yet. I have been so busy with the 2 H2’s . But I’m about to bring out the 08 zx14 , my 21 zx14R is fast and so much fun.
You know I never thought of it like that. It might be. I’m not sure that it isn’t just an indicator for the gear though. As always it’s better to have it fixed than not working properly
Haha yeah good luck on that one. I almost stripped mine trying to get it out. Definitely change it out to a hex or standard bolt. Best $.50 you will ever spend on a bolt
Always start with the least aggressive as possible. I would go with like a 600 and see where that gets you. You want to clean the gunk off not re machine the part lol.

Thank you so much for the tip !! I got the same problem on my Indian chief vintage !! I will fix it this week

Did it actually work on the gsxr? I’m curious if it is the same type of mechanism

Yes do exactly this guy in the video does if it doesn't work by cleaning it then just replace it

You can do it
Very good explanation I hope it's gone to work with my motorcycle

What is this part called?
A gear indicator sensor?
So long term recap did it stay solid or did you just replace sensor also did you clean the area on the bike to?

Right on thanks for the comment. Have a killer day
Thanks. Will try cleaning mine

When you had that problem in the beginning was it automatically shifting your gears.??

Still working like a charm. Worth changing out the screw to a bolt with either a hex or bolt head. Makes it so much easier to put back together

And most of all, is there any O-ring? Does all the oil drain when removing? Thank you very much in advance!
Were you able to fix the dashes issue? My z400 Also does this

problem was someone put a TRE mod in it so i only have Neutral & 5Th

what size torx bolts?
Would it not be sending the wrong fuel mixture if it thinks its in a different gear then it actually is?
You know I never thought of it like that. It might be. I’m not sure that it isn’t just an indicator for the gear though. As always it’s better to have it fixed than not working properly
Some bikes (in my case an SV650) have an ignition retard in any gear under 4th, so yes in some cases it may be affecting your map/fuel consumption
Its just an indicator, has nothing to do with fuel.
Need to fix my old GS 550 that have no function right now
is not only like that > the wire will broken inside , you mast to clean the silicon of the back and welding the wires , then will be a good fix !
Thank you brother 🙏
My pleasure
Had the same problem with my s1krr wouldn’t start didn’t see neutral 🤬she is fine again👊
That what I like to hear. Was it the same situation? Did you fix it with a simple clean or did you get a new one?
Gear position sensor looks like the same part in the Ninja 400. Is that so?
did it work ?
You bet it fixed the problem but it was an intermittent problem. If its broke there is not easy fix for it.
@@ModdingAddiction Is it still fixed? I have an 2015 R3 and I think this is the problem.
You'll find the screws aren't Phillips they are JIS and the screw drivers are available.
That makes sense. They need to be an Allen key or torx to make it easier
got a 2012 zx10r and that inside screw is driving me insane haha
cant get mine out
