@only bts if your birds room is safe and secure turn the lights off, close the blinds, and make the room as dark and quiet as possible after 8:00PM (at the latest ideally). Its fine for the budgies to sleep out of their cage or all in the same cage if they prefer. You would need to make sure that there are no other people or animals in the birdroom so that your budgies are safe. Two of my three parrots sleep out of their cage each night and have been doing so for a very long time. Its just what they prefer and since there are no hazards and they stay on their designated perches there is no reason not to have them sleep where they want.

It is a fairly typical macaw size cage (its as big as my room allows) but I don’t plan on having her locked in it unless I am going on vacation which happens one to two times per year for a combined total of 1-2 weeks.

I adopted a 21 yo rescue jenday conure and thanks to you, I think her cage is off to a good start. I definitely want to get more natural perches but I know the space and toy variety would earn a good rating from you.
Dang, one whole star dropped just for 1 sand perch in an entire birdroom so the birds can file their nails. I'd think she would need a couple more perches that have abrasion so they can file their nails. One perch may not be enough. I think having different textures is important for a bird to stand on not just different variations in sizes. If the bird's feet are getting tired or irritated it can find a different perch. Birds are capable of feeling pain and are smart enough to move and find something more comfortable. In this case, it doesn't look like those birds would be on that perch for very long, it is one thing if she had a majority of only sand perches. Abrasive perches are definitely necessary, if not sand then some sort of abrasive perch the bird will use occasionally so its nails stay at a healthy length. Most birds would prefer humans to not handle them to clip their nails I'd say in confidence most people who own birds have birds that don't like to have their nails clipped let alone like to be touched at all. Having a few perches like this that birds can use ensure their nails stay at a healthy length so they don't have to be stressed out if they are not comfortable being handled. Using only these perches or putting them in locations where they will only be used would be a mistake. These perches should be used thoughtfully and strategically and adjusted if noticing the bird is spending too much time on them. However, if you find a bird that follows the perch it's likely that it likes that perch and it finds it comfortable enough to perch on.
Tabletop cages make great travel cages so don't get rid of it it's a great start. Just keep your bird out all day. And if your bird won't take to a spray bottle two or three times a week you can take everything out of the cage and put the misting humidifier in there. Make sure to wrap all your cords with duct tape or fleece because the birds chew right through them. And you can put your misting humidifier in the bird cage to keep it safe because birds will just peck those little suckers right apart
I just got your avian essentials box (packed by pearl lol) and can’t wait to set everything up in my new flight cage this weekend hopefully! What an amazing box! I probably could have pieced together some of it myself but I really like you and and your channel and I wanted to support you! So happy I did! Great job with the box! ❤️
I loved this so much, thanks for doing one of these again! Also, I saw the cutest green cheek conure today and it was so playful and sweet, but it was super expensive so I couldn’t get it😭💚 I am going to get a budgie though, I’ve been doing my research and saving up so hopefully I can get one by summer!
Omg thank you soooooo much you influenced me to buy my lovebird a bigger cage and to feed her Better food like pellets and bird chop. You help me so much TYSM!
I have 8 parrots: 3 Green Cheek Conures, 2 moustache parakeets, a Quaker, a brown head and an Amazon. One of my GCCs is beakless so I have him in a smaller cage full of perches because he has no beak to climb assist. Most are in a wrought iron 24” cage each but my brown head, one moustache are in flight type cages 30” wide and my Amazon is in a 48” cage. Covering the ceiling and one wall is a climbing net I knotted myself. The room is big because all 8 cages are in that room. They get up at 11, eat shortly after, and get their nutriberries at 2pm. After they finish eating their nutriberries, they come out. Some go getters fly to the living room and the training perch to get their piece of nut, while others fly to the play stand at the other end of the living room and others stay in the net in the bird room or on the cage tops tearing up empty millet boxes. When the dog goes to bed at 8pm, the birds fly to their cages and wait for the millet. Then they eat that and chill out until 9 pm when the light goes out. And then it all starts over. All my perches are either manzanita or apple tree. The dishes are either class or ramekins. They get their chop and pellets together because that’s the only way they will eat both. Their water is bottled and that dispenser is in their room. I have a cart on wheels to bring the dirty dishes into the kitchen and the clean ones are in the drain tray. My birds are not noisy because they are busy. I usually have 4 on me when I go to make tea. If someone comes to the door, all I have to do is go into the bird room and everyone follows me and I close their door and answer the outside door.
You made me realise that my plastic food bowl was not a good idea so I’m going to buy a new one also I’m going to buy lots of new toys for my two budgies my cage is perfect and I’ve got a variety of perches thank you for explaining this to us!
My mom doesn’t allow it :( I’ve had 6 SIX birds kick the bucket because “vets aren’t required” and I never asked for most of the 11 birds I’ve had I’ve just been pressured to get more and I submit to pressure easily
@@Mylifesuckslol if you cant properly care for the bird and keep up with its health then stop buying more like If they are collectors items. My bird is perfectly healthy, has a good sized cage, is hardly in the cage, he just doesnt have nearly as many toys as he is supposed to but that's it.
@@julianalara9710 I explained I don’t want them I get “surprise gifts” I do my best for these birds but I never asked for them I only wanted 2 after doing lots of research and my ringnecks are properly cared for unlike my “surprise” budgies
When I get my budgie I am getting everything you have recommended in your videos I have watched and I might get 2 budgies from a rescue place near me and before I started watching you I was going to get them from pet smart but now a rescue place near me. I am so excited and I'm happy I have found your UA-cam to help me 😁
You really need PVC purchase for the birds that can eat a dowel rod within a day. What you do is you just wrap fleece from Joanne's around it. It's only $5 a yard with a coupon and it's almost impossible for the birds to chew on and it's nice and comfy for their feet. Plus it easily rinses clean and hot water when it's time to power wash the cage. PVC actually makes great perches For those birds it's sit there and chew through the base of the perch and then all of a sudden they go clunk on the floor, but please coat it with fleece
Chicken wire is NOT SAFE for parrots!!!! Most chicken wire is galvanized, and that coating is going to come off onto all the perches, not to mention the parrots climbing on the wire itself. Chickens don't climb their enclosures and they're usually housed outside.
Today I got my first bird,he looks exactly like Bluebell and his name is Elvis Thank you for helping me so much so I can give my bird The best life I can
Video request: I thoroughly enjoyed this video and learned A LOT! Thank you! I have a getting toward elderly cockatiel whom I adopted 14 years ago, so his real age is unknown but he is showing signs of age. I love him to pieces! I learned from this that what I thought was a reasonable sized cage for him is, while not terrible, sub-optimal and I'm wanting to upgrade. The wrinkle: he is nearly blind. Not completely, but he's losing his sight significantly as he ages. He's otherwise a happy bird who talks to me, calls, whistles, and, thanks to you, I've now trained him to accept treats from the sound of my voice without being so startled he's upset when I approach. He can't really handle "step-up" very well anymore, but that's another story. He's brave enough to find his way out of the top opening of his cage, but doesn't fly around or explore on the floor anymore either. Long story even longer, I am trying to figure out how/if I should buy him a new home or if a change of abode would be too stressful given his low vision. He gets around his cage just fine and knows where things are. He is brave enough, after awhile, to investigate and shred new toys. My request: would you consider doing a video comparing common cages found online and give a top three recommendation? A what to look for and what to avoid? It's a little harder to shop online and know that the cleaning/debris drawers etc. are actually well designed or not. I've read about problems with latches too. Your advice and experience would be welcome. Side quest: I would also appreciate any advice you have on elderly bird care, especially if I really shouldn't change his cage this late in the game.
hi this isnt about cages but i have a budgie and ive been trying to train it for a year and 1 month, my budgie still wont trust me ive followed things youve dont then once tht didnt work ive tryed other things i also do have a big cage can people tell me what to do
My birds cage bar spacing is 0.6 and he is a budgie. Looking into getting a cage with 0.5 bar spacing as I have tons of extra money even thought I am young but this video definitely helped. Awesome job as always!
We've been having some issues with an adopted budgie - we thought we got him off of mirrors, but he tends to use the metal food bowl as a mirror. We know from this channel that metal is more hygenic, but we also know the issues with mirrors. Does anyone have any ideas to try and help out our lovely boy?
If you think your budgie may be lonely than try playing a video of budgie sounds for it like this one: ua-cam.com/video/p8rpqHvd7do/v-deo.html when I got my first two budgies i played and on my 3rd day of having them and they came alive, and started chirping for the first time. Also come to to think of it you could also probably just wrap the bowls in some type of paper to solve the mirror issue.
I can’t watch a video of yours without crying Over the summer I was waiting until I could show you my bird cage and 6 birds. One of them brought a disease from a pet store and all of them died. They meant so much to me and as a beginner your videos helped me a lot. Really sad that I never got to at least send you the cage even if you didn’t react to it.
This is why quarantine is so important. Quarantine for a full 30 days the best that you can. I will be honest that it is very hard for me to fully quarantine new birds so I always take them to my local avian vet first thing for a full work up. It turns out that my new Catalina macaw has a respiratory infection that is not contagious or life threatening. Whenever I rescue a bird, I expect something to be wrong with it and I don’t want to endanger any of my other birds especially since I have had all but one for over a decade now.
@13 knights if you buy a bird from janky, dirty pet stores, you run the risk of them having health issues. A high risk at that. If you insist on buying there anyway take the bird to a vet straight away. If you can’t afford to take the bird to the vet then I suggest putting aside plenty of money until you can afford to take proper care of the bird. If thats not possible, its important to ask yourself why you want a bird. People who can’t afford to take care of birds and get them anyway are not putting the animal first which is frankly pretty disturbing to me. Now if you somehow ended up stuck with a family bird because of the death of a relative and can not properly care for it then I suggest rehoming to someone who can.
@@MrJdubz100 I was very young and didn’t know about the subject I made many mistakes and my parents didn’t know how to care for the animals either We did however quarantine them for 30 days and that wasn’t enough There were no avian vets near us and they were far too expensive I assure you they were living in good conditions for the amount of time they were with me and I had some of them for years Thank you for your advice
@Shmagoogle I find that budgies are very delicate birds. As an adult who provides well for his birds I am very fortunate to have never suffered a loss. As a kid however, my family had 2-3 budgies and a cockatiel and all of them died well before their time. When I was younger we didn’t know a lot about diet and carefully monitoring their health. My new rescue, a Catalina Macaw, has a respiratory infection and while it may be enough to kill a small delicate bird like a budgie, my avian vet says that it is not life threatening and that antibiotics will take care of it. Bigger birds seem to be hardier.
Hello Elle,I bought a Jen day conure about 2 years ago when it was still a baby but old enough for me to own,it’s starting to grow a patch of green on the tip of its head and I was wondering if this could be something to talk to a vet about.
hiiii i would like to ask about perches. So, in my country there aren't a lot of thick perches sold for big birds like macaws ( which is the bird im getting ). i looked around my garden and there arent a lot of suitable perches either. BUT, i do have some perches on a plastic tree that's thick, suitable, and just overall perfect. the perches arent plastic except for the flowers and the leaves. i am planning to cut the perches . BUT , the thing is, the perches are made of wood, but there are black coating on the outside. my question is, is the black coating around the perch is hazardous to a macaw?
So random, but imagine if there was a hello fresh box for parrots. Like, it comes with the ingredients and recipes, but the recipes and ingredients are only parrot safe ones and they're different ways to make bird chop- I'm sorry this is so random, but I was just thinking of this when I saw the hello fresh ad xD
I'm quite tempted to send mine in honestly XD. It's a diy cage. Like table top but not at the same time, Its like a flight cage but turned sideways cuz it was originally made for my budgies (giving more lent than height) but one passed so I decided to get a cockatiel and they are housed together. dunno, maybe if she does this again :D

I’ve been waiting for another of these videos for forever! Also I love your videos sooo much!
Thank you for your helpful videos
Thank you so much for the amazing content you are so awesome we love you Ell ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ you are awesome and so many good things are coming your way
I just got your avian essentials box (packed by pearl lol) and can’t wait to set everything up in my new flight cage this weekend hopefully!
Cool cages! And, tell Kermit I'm his biggest fan :D
Lol Kermit is adorable ❤
I've just bought my budgie a new cage for his birthday. It's about double the size of his old cage
Yay! the bigger the better, what size? (I accidentally turned off replies so if you like my comment then I’ll be able to see it thx 😊
Horizontal bars are better than vertical bars for birds to climb the cage more easily., Love your videos 😃
5:19 the perch is also close to the food bowls which means theres a chance it could poop in its food bowl
Omg thank you soooooo much you influenced me to buy my lovebird a bigger cage and to feed her Better food like pellets and bird chop. You help me so much TYSM!
That homade cage has inspired me to make one myself for my new bird. Just not with the huge gaps with the wood.
Her eyeliner is so cute ❤️❤️
I should have sent you a photo of mine but the bar spacing is to big but I’m getting a now way bigger cage for my four parakeets with smaller bars
I am so happy that you have uploaded a new video in your channel recently... Keep uploading videos
The bird room is awesome
Thanks! 😁
If someone comes to the door, all I have to do is go into the bird room and everyone follows me and I close their door and answer the outside door.
so amazing Elle keep the work up
I've been waiting for one of these videos for ever
You made me realise that my plastic food bowl was not a good idea so I’m going to buy a new one also I’m going to buy lots of new toys for my two budgies my cage is perfect and I’ve got a variety of perches thank you for explaining this to us!
Nice Bird room! Very Cute!
Would plastic wire work for small birds? Or would they chew it up and escape?
I wish I could do this for my bird! I just dont have the money right now to afford all this
Same
Same
My mom doesn’t allow it :( I’ve had 6 SIX birds kick the bucket because “vets aren’t required” and I never asked for most of the 11 birds I’ve had I’ve just been pressured to get more and I submit to pressure easily
I've been watching you for two years
14:13 where can I get this cage? I’m thinking about getting a cockatiel but need some help. I’m not great with birds but I want one REALLY bad!
Missed you Elle
Yess I wanted this for a month
You are the best reaction channel ever!
im getting new budgies soon ! any recommendations of what to put in the cage and everything???😭or do you have a video
Ur videos are always informative! ❤❤🥰🥰🥰🌿🌿🌿

Congrats on the sponsor!
Please do another 24 hour challenge with the birds!
Hi, I'm from Germany and don't speak englisch very well but I love your videos ! 🐣🕊️
Hi, an alle die Deutsch sprechen 🐣 💖
Yours Sophia
Hi komme auch aus Deutschland
Thank you so much for the suggestions!-last cage review in video
I Like to watch your reacting to bird cages
Hi I’m just wondering would 3 normal budgies and 2 English budgies be okay in a flight cage all together
Chicken wire is NOT SAFE for parrots!!!! Most chicken wire is galvanized, and that coating is going to come off onto all the perches, not to mention the parrots climbing on the wire itself. Chickens don't climb their enclosures and they're usually housed outside.
Hi elle I just wanna say that your videos are so entertaining and that i hope you have a good 2022! 😊
Hi Elle
Currently watching this at 11:20pm
I Don't know Why? But My cockatiel Loves Hanging Upside Down For No reason
Your birds are so pretty and cute 🥺❤️
hi this isnt about cages but i have a budgie and ive been trying to train it for a year and 1 month, my budgie still wont trust me ive followed things youve dont then once tht didnt work ive tryed other things i also do have a big cage can people tell me what to do
I got so exited seeing that you posted!! The the rating series!!
Try ceramic food bowls! They're also hygienic, and won't give your budgie something to get attached to.
As a fellow bird owner I would suggest any clear food bowls (that are not plastic!)
Hii can you do a video covering egg laying and how to avoid it??
Hi elle, i have a question. If you get a cage just for sleeping and let the bird out besides sleeping and relaxing is still that good?
@briau ok thanks for the advice :)
I can’t watch a video of yours without crying
Over the summer I was waiting until I could show you my bird cage and 6 birds. One of them brought a disease from a pet store and all of them died. They meant so much to me and as a beginner your videos helped me a lot. Really sad that I never got to at least send you the cage even if you didn’t react to it.
my bird casper got a respitory infection from the pet store and died.
@@MrJdubz100 I was very young and didn’t know about the subject I made many mistakes and my parents didn’t know how to care for the animals either
We did however quarantine them for 30 days and that wasn’t enough
There were no avian vets near us and they were far too expensive
I assure you they were living in good conditions for the amount of time they were with me and I had some of them for years
Thank you for your advice
@Shmagoogle I find that budgies are very delicate birds. As an adult who provides well for his birds I am very fortunate to have never suffered a loss. As a kid however, my family had 2-3 budgies and a cockatiel and all of them died well before their time. When I was younger we didn’t know a lot about diet and carefully monitoring their health. My new rescue, a Catalina Macaw, has a respiratory infection and while it may be enough to kill a small delicate bird like a budgie, my avian vet says that it is not life threatening and that antibiotics will take care of it. Bigger birds seem to be hardier.
elle if you do a part 2 how do i send you my cage? i really need someone experienced to tell me if i need to add or remove something and more advice.
Hello Elle,I bought a Jen day conure about 2 years ago when it was still a baby but old enough for me to own,it’s starting to grow a patch of green on the tip of its head and I was wondering if this could be something to talk to a vet about.
Maybe just in case call the vet if its anything to worry about?
@@blue_and_chicken alright thank you
The fourth one is my cage i took so much effort on it thx elle!
hiiii i would like to ask about perches.
Like, it comes with the ingredients and recipes, but the recipes and ingredients are only parrot safe ones and they're different ways to make bird chop-
I'm sorry this is so random, but I was just thinking of this when I saw the hello fresh ad xD
I just got to budgies and they are untouched so ive been working with them slowly but they always stay in the same corner??
1:40-6:00 my budgie is out from 9 am to 5 pm lol
I'm quite tempted to send mine in honestly XD. It's a diy cage. Like table top but not at the same time, Its like a flight cage but turned sideways cuz it was originally made for my budgies (giving more lent than height) but one passed so I decided to get a cockatiel and they are housed together. dunno, maybe if she does this again :D
FINALLY a new video been waiting
I love your videos and I love this series yayayayaya
And what do you use for the bottom of cage, newspaper, store bought shred?
