Quelle discothèque extraordinaire que la vôtre ! Félicitations !
Brilliant. One of those no-nonsense swiftly conducted performances of French opera rarely heard these days. Is it taken from a complete performance?
It is taken from a complete recording but I don't have the whole thing... It would be my référence recording though, with Jacques Mars as Don Quichotte !
This opera is programmed in 2 french opera house this season, one in Opéra Bastille and the other one in Marseille (where I'm currently going)
It has certainly gained in popularity in recent years. I saw it at Covent Garden some years ago.
In France it is the 4th or 5th most performed opera by Massenet, just behind Manon, Werther and Thaïs and on par with Hérodiade.
