《Bird and Cicada》is a Chinese pop song composed by Chinese singe Kent Wong(王建)， lyrics by Geng Geng(耕耕), Chinese female singer Ren Ran(任然) sang it. It was released as a single on July 3, 2020, and later included in Ren Ran's album《Ren Ran》released on July 27, 2021. This song won first place on the QQ music hot song list and first place on the top 500 of KuGou network music. It is the champion of the Uni Chart music list, the No. 1 in Karaok TV golden song list.
This song metaphorically describes a doomed love without results through the story of a bird and a cicada. The bird met the cicada in summer. They had the best summer together and made a wish to the empty bottle. It's coming autumn and the bird was about to fly away. Bird said to the cicada, I'm going to fly away, and I'll come to you next summer, bye. Cicada said, okay, but I can't meet you on time next summer. I will appear in the fifth season. The fifth season starts from the 13th month. You must show up at that time. Birds fly away and fly away proudly. Cicada perch quietly on the leaf in the summertime and sent the bird away. They went to different worlds.
The bird doesn't know that there is no fifth season and no thirteenth month. Cicada's life will end this summer, but cicada said to the bird, you must show up in the thirteenth month. The bird flies over the long north latitude in the winter of December, but it never flies for the fifth season of the thirteenth month. After the summer is over, the cicada will die and the bird will fly south and they will never meet again. If they want to meet again, it is the afterlife. It's just like a sad love story.
