Well done on this video - the start of you walking home, transition to you opening the mic, very nice. I love videos which don't waste time and are genuine. Thank you and keep up the good work
I know for my current real one the cardboard the mic sits in is brown and doesn’t have a shure logo, there is no trademark logo on the back plate (the one mounted and the one without the holes, and all of the thumb screws are metal.
Is there a hyphen between the words “warm” and “delivers” on the front? Do the words “superior” and “for” run together on the back of the box? That a sure way of knowing before the box is even opened.
As I mentioned in the video, I was able to return it to the seller, so I don't have the box anymore. I was just looking at the photos I sent to Shure though. The front has "warm" and "delivers" separated, not running together. I can't find the word "superior" on the back at all.
@MatthewHaines Both boxes I got from Sweetwater look different, the Shure logo on the front is Green and where the big SM7B lettering is on the front, the SM is white but 7B is green. I bought my first one years ago, and another one last year.
I wonder if what you describe is an older version of the box? B&H has a picture of the box and it matches what I had (lettering in shades of gray). I see on ebay some of the used ones have the 7B in green as you describe (as well as all of the knockoffs with the all-gray). I doubt B&H is selling knockoffs though. 🤷♂️
@@MatthewHaines true. But I'm talking about ebay/amazon. If they are selling it as "New" then the box is the first clue. SM7B's are generally not sitting on the shelves for years - they're very popular so older boxes selling as new... I would pass. Second is the price. $200 for a SM7B is just not going to happen
According to shure’s info on their website, they have the same standards at both factories. I have no idea if there is a difference in sound because I have not had the opportunity to compare. 🤷♂️ Thanks for watching!
@@MatthewHaines Its not fake Microphone, they have the USB version and it works with official software. Its whats called 3rd shift product, its when they run a small night shift and make products for black market. Its especially rampant in Clothing, Accessories like belts wallets everything that is easy [limited team of people working at night], but it also passed to Electronics and i love such products, hard to find but its a deal, same product with some tiny "defects".
@@NoBodysGamer huh. I hadn’t thought of that, although I wondered if maybe Shure didn’t want mics made for the Chinese market ending up elsewhere. This would explain the good quality sound it had. I almost kept it, but I couldn’t really use it in videos to compare. Thanks for the info!
Yo so I would tell everyone the name of the seller so no one buys a counterfeit by mistake ya know, so all of these ones for 130 to 200 are all fake or counterfeit right?
I am curious to the pictures you send Shure which told them it is a fake? I have my fair share of Shure products and I wonder if I notice it myself as well. (Already bounced several mics I tried to buy second hand, due to noticing they were fake/counterfit)
They said take as many pictures as possible of every aspect of the mic and packaging. They wouldn’t reveal what gave it away. I suspect it was the R registration mark on the logo on the back of the mic, but I don’t know.
Thanks for your experience. I'm going through the same right now. Bought a open-box SM7B from eBay with location Switzerland. So I assumed It was a good deal. After I placed the order I rechecked everything and I noticed that the description changed slightly and they removed the word Shure on it. So I've starting to investigate and I saw that the traking number and the retailer was from China. I contacted them asking for any proof of authenticity and the original country of the product, they replied saying that the mic comes from Hong Kong but it's located in Switzerland. I'm still waiting for the shipment but I'm 99% Shure (lol, sorry I couldn't resist) that it's a fake. I've already written to the customer service saying that I suspect for all these reasons that it could be a counterfeit and they assure that I can get all my money back if this is true. My problem was "How can I demonstrate that it's a counterfeit?" But now I know that I can write quickly to Shure and there is no need to send them my mic and spend more money. Big thanks, you made my day!
I want to add that I feel a stupid because seeing everything now it was a clear scam, but I got so excited by the deal and the fact that the logo SHURE was in every photo that even an expert can be fooled by this. Also I just discovered that many people get scammed by counterfeits even in more reliable stores and many more have a fake mic without knowing it.
Hi, Claudio. Thank you for your heartfelt comment. I feel your pain, and I too felt (feel) stupid for having fallen for the scam. I just didn't think anyone would go as far as claiming in the title that it was authentic. Hopefully you'll be able to return it without any expense. I didn't mention in the video, but the seller actually tried to bribe me to change the negative feedback I gave after I returned the item. They first wanted to give me a partial refund, and then wanted to send me cash. It was pathetic. I did complain to eBay but I don't know if they care or not. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.
@@MatthewHaines In the end I had the same treatment from eBay. No counterfeit law applied and the seller wanted to have the mic back, but I had to pay and arrange the shipment and later get the money back. (But they said to let me keep the mic that the refund could take A LONG TIME, quoted with all caps). So I tested it and reported to Shure that immediately took the question and reported the seller. Regarding the mic, it was clearly a fake but the sound was really good. So I decided to keep it in exchange for a partial refund (bought for 166€, they gave me back 140€). I say that because I ran a blind test with my Lewitt and me and other musicians have always preferred the fake Shure. So in the end 26€ for a mic that in the end works pretty well could be worth it. I will use it for meetings and Discord chatting!
If that's a question, then yes, I think you won't be able to tell if it's a counterfeit unless you open it. But do consider the source you're buying it from as well. If it's not coming from a local seller, and/or if they seem to sell a lot of random, new stuff, it might be fake.
L'achat d'occasion est compliqué sur ce micro. Merci pour cette vidéo. Je vais acheter avec quelqu'un qui possède la facture d'origine d'un revendeur connu de Shure. Good Job
We are here with the same thing. Bought from a shop as a second hand but came from China But the thing is it’s sounds so good that we still want to believe that it’s real 🤣
I mean, why not? Another viewer suggested it might be a "third shift" mic, ie made after hours in the same facility, off the books. Hard to prove but possible. I ultimately didn't keep mine because I need to be able to compare other mics with an official one. If I were just using it for a podcast or something, it would have been a harder choice!
Hey I thought no one would have the nerve to do that in an eBay listing, for fear of getting their account removed. We all make mistakes (which is partly what the video is about).
You gotta buy direct from Shure, to be 'shure'. Ha ha. If budget is a real concern, maybe get a RODE Procaster. -They're legit awesome mics, under appreciated and half the price of the Shure. -And no fakes are being made of RODE, (as far as I know.) I love that company. Sadly, the popularity of the SM7b has been working against it. These days when I see an SM7b on a podcast, I can't help but think, 'poser'. Though, to be fair, I sometimes also get a whiff of 'little league' when I see less expensive mics. In the end, the best you can do is make great material and not worry about aesthetics so much. If a person has talent and works hard, that's what will be noticed. In any case, counterfeiters should not be rewarded for being sleazy.
